Wayne Rooney has declared himself fit for England’s friendly with Egypt on Wednesday. The striker had scans on a swollen knee this morning and has returned with a clean bill of health…
“I went for a scan today and it’s just a bit of bruising…I’m having a bit of a rest day today, I should train tomorrow and should play on Wednesday.”
On the one hand this is good news. There’s no serious damage and so there should be no question of him leading the attack against Wolves this weekend. On the other hand he now seems set to play some part in Wedneseday’s meaningless friendly and therefore has the potential to aggravate the problem. Alex Ferguson would certainly rather have Rooney a spectator against Egypt and his fantasy owners would certainly agree.
