Our daily dose of Cesc Fabregas news is today supplied by an unlikely source with the Spaniard’s father tossing us some nuggets of new information on his son’s injured knee.
According to Cesc’s own flesh and blood, he will be fit to take the field against Barcelona tomorrow night despite the knock sustained at the weekend. However, Fab’s father doesn’t sound too sure just how effective he will be once out there…
“The blow hurts a lot less now and it seems to be just a knock, nothing more serious…I think Cesc will play. Although he may not be at his best he will do everything he can to be part of it.”
Further stories suggest that Fabregas remains a major doubt after missing training earlier today.
We await full confirmation from Wenger (keep an eye on the tweets) but regardless, our main concern is of course the Emirates league encounter with Wolves this weekend…
While it will be a welcome sight to see Fabregas mixing it with Yaya Toure, Messi and Ibrahimovic on Wednesday, that won’t offer us cast iron assurance that he will be avoiding the attentions of Karl Henry and company come Saturday afternoon. With the second leg with Barcelona to follow on Tuesday evening, the temptation to rest Fabregas and his bruised knee joint will likely be pretty high.
Fabregas owners will be advised to look to their bench and ready their auto substitutes. As Rooney and Drogba owners know full well from the gameweek that’s just past – a healthy bench can be mighty handy at this stage in the season. As for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy – Fabregas currently leads our poll; it will be interesting to see just how opinion changes as the week progresses.
