An extraordinary day indeed Mark, the football finished with a bang and a sinking feeling tonight (last night?) as Man City cut through Burnley like a hot knife through butter…

Marks 1-0 Burnley prediction was at least half right, in a convoluted kind of way, Burnley did indeed score 1 goal against Manchester City but somewhat more importantly Roberto Mancini’s side managed to to walk away with “only” 6 goals.

Despite spurning a couple of glorious chances and rattling the woodwork two times in the first half, Man City were 5-0 up by the time Alan Wiley blew for half time – and were three ahead in under seven minutes…

Adam Johnson’s corners, and some atrocious marking, conspired to help tally up half of City’s returns as Adebayor, Kompany and Vieira all got in on the action; while Carlos Tevez was on hand for a simple rebound and also carved open the Burnley defence two more times to turn provider for his fellow strikers Craig Bellamy and Emmanuel Adebayor, the latter notching his second goal of the evening.

If the heavens hadn’t opened up in the second half creating a quagmire of a pitch at Turf Moor, winger Adam Johnson is probably not far off with his estimations:

“If the pitch had stayed in the condition it was in the first half, it might have been even more goals”

It really could have been. Manchester City have now passed Tottenham and are in the driving seat for fourth place, and that elusive Champions League spot – a blue moon will certainly be out tonight.

And as for Burnley, with 4 points from 42 since the appointment of Brian Laws, the Burnley board are perhaps wondering if the Deloitte & Touche study they requested may have churned out the wrong name by mistake. With five games to go, time is running out for survival – their must win trip to Hull next week is as good a time as any to break their Premier League duck away from home.
