Wayne Rooney could be in line for a remarkable return to the United lineup for Wednesday’s Champions League second leg with Bayern Munich according to a report in the Guardian this morning.

The article suggests that Rooney could be on course to defy the early prognosis that had him sidelined for two-to-three weeks with his ankle ligament injury. He has apparently made extraordinary progress and United medical staff are apparently giving him a 40% chance of being in contention for Wednesday’s tie.

His fantasy owners expected to have him back in the fold for the league clash with Spurs on April 24th with a chance that he could return a week before that against Man City. However, this report offers new hope that Rooney could even be in the squad for the trip to Blackburn next Sunday.

Rooney has been sold by over 370,000 Fantasy Premier League managers in the last week so a return in the next two gameweeks would likely make him a big mini-league differential.

It all seems unlikely on face value but we can only await official comment from United as we approach Wednesday’s tie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
