While Chelsea and Didier Drogba surprised nobody with the Déjà vu scenario unfolded at Stamford Bridge, Blackpool was busily dismantling Roy Hodgson’s dream at Anfield; providing the cue for a chorus of “Dalglish” from the frustrated Kop. As for Man City – their efficiency was severely tested by a battling Newcastle but decisions fell kindly and the timely introduction of Adam Johnson’s twinkling feet saw them gather another three points.

Proceedings at Stamford Bridge certainly stuck to the script. Arsenal played pretty possession football with Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere impressing again, but it was Chelsea’s power and penetration that eventually overwhelmed them. Michael Essien took control in midfield and even Ramires, much-maligned in the defeat at City last time out, asserted a strong influence in the middle of the park.

Chelsea have now kept five clean sheets this season and have yet to concede at Stamford Bridge. Away trips at Villa, Blackburn and Liverpool in the next four will test their defensive resolve, but it remains essential to cover Chelsea’s relentless march on the title with investment in all departments of your Fantasy squad. Alex’s thunderous free-kick was coming after finding the woodwork on two occasions previously; he remains a rotation risk however, as Carlo Ancelotti will soon have his pack boosted by the return of Jose Bosingwa as a right-back option. It’s difficult to look beyond Ashley Cole for Chelsea defensive coverage – even with his lofty price tag.

Newcastle’s trip to Man City saw a major surprise from Chris Hughton, with Andy Carroll (and Wayne Routledge) left on the bench for the first league game this season, making way for Shola Ameobi and Jonas Gutierrez respectively. Routledge’s time out of the starting XI only lasted a matter of minutes, however, thanks to Nigel de Jong’s leg-breaking challenge on Hatem Ben Arfa, who will now spend a substantial part of his season-long loan from Marseille on the sidelines. Routledge will surely come back into the starting lineup for Gameweek 8’s home clash with Wigan, whilst Carroll owners should be reasonably confident that he will also regain his starting role in that one.

Adam Johnson once again returned to the role of substitute, despite his midweek goal against Juventus in the Europa League. Coming off the bench on the 70th minute, Johnson didn’t take long to make an impact; within five minutes the winger had grabbed City’s winner (and was also awarded the 3 Bonus Points) in a 2-1 victory they made hard work of. Carlos Tevez, once again, scored for City, thanks to a dubiously awarded penalty in a game that saw Jerome Boateng make his first league start for Roberto Mancini’s side, as City moved up to second in the table.

For a side challenging for the top spots, City are still struggling to generate the weight goal opportunities you would expect. With three away games in the next four, owners of Tevez and Johnson will still have some concern that Mancini’s cautious, defend and “wait for the magic” tactics, currently look unlikely to produce large victory margins and big Fantasy returns. At the other end, City were breached against Newcastle, but remain one of the stronger defences in terms of opportunities granted to opponents. Boateng’s start puts him on the radar as a possible target, once we can be sure of his security at right-back. Gutierrez proved a handful on Sunday and Boateng will need to be more convincing if he is to cement a starting role.

Things go from bad to worse at Anfield. Liverpool’s defeat to Blackpool confines them to a bottom three position and, with the Kop baying for Dalglish, it’s clear that Roy Hodgson is in dire trouble. The fixture list looked so rosy for Liverpool a fortnight ago and yet in two home games against Sunderland and Blackpool, they have failed to win and have conceded 4 goals. With a lack of fluency and a lack of Fernando Torres, there’s little doubt that Liverpool have now been labelled a no-go area for Fantasy investment at both ends of the field.

Torres suffered a groin injury in yesterday’s defeat with Hodgson unsure over the severity of the injury and the likely length of absence. The international break may do Hodgson a favour and get the Spaniard back in contention but a trip to Goodison next certainly gives him no favours as far as fixtures are concerned. Everton will be buoyant after their win at Birmingham and will be looking forward to inflicting another blow to a wounded Liverpool in Gameweek 8.

Blackpool continue to surprise and, from 5 away games in their first 7 Premier League outings, Ian Holloway’s side have won 3 of them. Predictably, Charlie Adam has emerged as the “talent” within their squad and his two spot-kicks agianst Newcastle and at Anfield yesterday, have boosted his Fantasy returns to put him firmly on the radar as a bargain fifth midfielder. Maximum FPL Bonus Points arrived yesterday too and he, along with Everton’s Mikel Arteta, has now gathered this on three occasions. Blackpool will likely need to keep winning games for that to continue but the fixtures are on their side over the coming Gameweeks. Three home games in four now follow and Adam is sure to pick up a good deal of Fantasy interest as a result.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hopefully yes. However you've played your WC so get some players in that could earn you some money (not lose it like cesc potentially could), then when arsene gives him the green light bring him back in for the brum game. Who knows he might even be cheaper by then.
I'm playing the money game on my WC, then shortly before the next deadline getting in the players I want for the long run.

Pondering a four to eight point cut next gameweek, feels like I need to upgrade the mid and backline. It's all about luck, could go both ways

    A. Cole, Bramble, Crainey

    Malouda, Nani, VDV, Nasri

    Berb, Drogba, Odemwingie

    Subs: Jones (BR), Simpson, Bale

who's worth an 8 point cut?

i am really not sure on whether to sell torres or not
    i did
    alex>jara
    carrol> torres
for a four point hit and i think he was very unfortunate to get injured but he is still a good players
however he is very expensive and i could use the money to upgrade my defence
am i am ontop of my league but the gut who is second has managed to close the gap to two points and he has not been taking any hits
last night i did J evans >enrique to avoid price drop but i am notloger sure if it was the best move

    Is anyone considering ditching Malouda?

I'm looking at the below for the next few Gameweeks - what do you think?

    GW8 - Gerrard -> Nani
    GW9 - No transfer
GW10 - Malouda and Bale -> Fabregas and Arteta
GW11 - Nolan and Carroll -> VDV and Jarvis

Would leave me with a team of

    Foster, Jaask
Alex, P Jones, Williamson, Jara, Foley
    Fabregas, Arteta, Nani, VDV, Etherington
    Drogba, Tevez, Jarvis

Where will Bale play update in relation to Rafael van der Vaart playing:

"You're not going to get two strikers in your team with Rafa and Gareth Bale on the left - it's not possible."

He's saying that with VDV roaming and Bale on the left, you can't play with two strikers up front.

I think he'll go with Bale and Lennon on the flanks, and VDV supporting Crouch until Defoe is back.

Having said that, Bale -> VDV is a good transfer IMO, if not a needed one.

Totalfpl is the bomb, it cannot be 100% accurate, but it is very close to that, I am on Tevez/Toure/Gilks/Adam/VDV/Odemwingie/Etherington in the hope that at least 3 go up by .2, could be more, fancy Tevez/Adam and Odemwingie to go up by .2 anyway

    Morning lads,

Waiting anxiously for the results regarding the cup. I got 52 points and for the first time I am first in my country in FPL and in FCL. Feeling so happy but now the tough decisions have to be made. I am looking Fabregas with his 3 of 4 at home and his captaincy potential. I've sorted variation and the final decision leaves me to selling Malouda or Cashey in order to afford him. The Drogs I will be keeping.

The problem with Malouda is that I will need 0.4 more if I want him again in my side and with Cashley I need 0.2 if I want him again. But Cashley is cheaper and I predict 160-170 points for him and 190 for Malouda. Regarding the next 4 Malouda has 3 away games and home game against Wolves in which one I can see Kalou starting. Its really tempting. On the plus side is that I am never confident on captaining Malouda which for a 10m mids he should be. On the other hand with Fabregas that decision is much easier. Plus I see plenty of other options in the mid which can do the damage without spending 9.5 (selling price 9.9).

So please can we have opinions here and why is better to keep Cashley or Malouda?

    Cheers,

Also having that same dilemma d.mf! I could keep both and go Bale to Fabregas and having a cheaper striking option than tevez. Either way there's some tough decisions to be made!

Tevez will have 200 pts season. U don't care about fixtures he scored against Liv and Che and he loves to play against Manc. IMO he is valuable option. And regarding Malouda there are other mids: Nani, Arteta, VDV which can match his points or score 20 pts less then him. I don't see competition for Tevez upfront.

still hungover from yesterday as I left Alex on the bench and played Jara instead. My early thoughts are Bale, Malouda > Insomnia, Fabregas (-4) as I have to make up ground. All my rivals have the same three midfielders (Malouda, Bale and VdV), so I need to find a differential. But I'll definitely wait till next Friday for my decision.
Tevez is a season keeper for me as I think he'll finish 2nd best striker overall.

What a coincidence. I just came on to ask a similar question. I want both Fabregas and Tevez, but the only way I can do that, losing Drogba, Malouda, or seriously downgrade my whole defense (three 4M's, which is too weak).

So here is an opinion: Malouda is good, but there are many other good midfielders, like Nani, Cesc, VdV, however Cashley is quite special, as you can play him even for away games, and he can score or get an assist.

      Which would you like?

      1) Tevez + Cesc + 5.5M mid
      2) Tevez + Malouda + 7.4M mid
      3) 6.3 frw + Cesc + Malouda

+1 I can see replacement for Malouda but no for Cashley (Vidic maybe), but everybody beware this is until Essien is fit. When he is not playing we are always conceding.

        3) Elmander, Cesc, Malouda

    Mark/Akers/Contributors

Would it be possible to have a list of the international fixtures of the popular FPL players on the site? Eg. I know England has just one game during the break, but don't know about the others, particularly non European nations, nor which players may have retired from international football. It could be more info than an FPL manager needs, but would help scope out the injury risks over next two weeks.

    Thanks

    Morning all,

I know it's early to be thinking about transfers, but I need to downgrade Konchesky to get Fabs in and will have 4.1m to spend on a defender. Who do think would be better to get Foley, Jara, Gohouri, Crainey? My gks are Foster and Al Habsi. I'm thinking Crainey for a bit of a differential as my rival has both Foley and Jara.

Ive learnt something. Whenever I watch the EPL games and hope for something to happen, my team is terrible. I watched the games on Saturday and I only got 18. I couldn't be bothered to watch the games on Sunday and I finished with 63 points this week. Last week, I watched Saturday and Sunday's games and I only got 28. I'm onto something there.

Looking forward to the cup as well and I plummeted in the rankings, holding on in the top 5k, plus I thought my main rival was gonna knock me off the top, a position I'm looking to keep from GW 1 to 38! Cole saved me there tho!... oh and obviously the game yesterday!

Only 3 points? Thats not too bad, you will do fine mate, u know your stuff i can tell!

Yeah I'm still good on Woy, he's inherited a poor team with literally no confidence which is the worry, they haven't become bad players over night, Mash was always gonna be a big loss, Johnson is incrediabily inept, Cole seems wasted on the wing, Torres always injured and has lost his confidence, 2 new centre mids who may turn out good but it's a big area to totally overhaul like we have, Skrtels having a stinker too. It worries me we are having to really on Ngog for goals again! I think we will survive but I'd be amazed if we finish any higher than last season! Credit to Blackpool tho obviously, and I told ya Adam would score a pen! Lol!

How did u guys play? Didn't really hear much about the game? Some nice winnable games coming up for Carroll to find his scoring boots again! Wa he just rested for these more winnable games?

Carroll will play yes, no worries there. It makes sense the more Ive thought about it-rest Carroll in a game we are expected to loose anyway (Houghton said in the local papers he has done the Big Sam thing of rating games-winnable,medium, no chance kind of thing) which gives Carroll a kick up the arse. Give Ameobi a chance to shine..hahaha.
We played well mate. A very high line as ESPN kept saying but Man City made v little as I suspected, they want to play on the break, ALL the time. Tevez only outlet until Johnson came on. Silva looked OK but no threat the way he has to play.
Pens were a joke, theirs could have been where the ref was, but Ameobi had a nailed on one turned down. I was fuming yesterday, but I guess it happens!
Ben Arfa was gutting, that De Jong is plain nasty and gets v little press for it.

yes, as when your players play you are watching through your hands really! I hate watching my captain in particular, wincing the whole way through, and I agree, sometimes it seems like when you watch nothing happens, and the times you log on to the mobile website and look at fixtures and results (I also avoid my latest points for some nerdish reason) and see your captain has two goals, oh the joy!

I might depending on his fitness level and get him back GW10.
However, VDV's fixtures aren't that good either but I'd like to get him before he gets too expensive... I always thought he was quality but he's not Fabs, he scored 2 goals in 1 game... Harewood or Carroll did better than that and don't produce anything atm (OK, clumsy comparison here)...
