While Chelsea and Didier Drogba surprised nobody with the Déjà vu scenario unfolded at Stamford Bridge, Blackpool was busily dismantling Roy Hodgson’s dream at Anfield; providing the cue for a chorus of “Dalglish” from the frustrated Kop. As for Man City – their efficiency was severely tested by a battling Newcastle but decisions fell kindly and the timely introduction of Adam Johnson’s twinkling feet saw them gather another three points.

Proceedings at Stamford Bridge certainly stuck to the script. Arsenal played pretty possession football with Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere impressing again, but it was Chelsea’s power and penetration that eventually overwhelmed them. Michael Essien took control in midfield and even Ramires, much-maligned in the defeat at City last time out, asserted a strong influence in the middle of the park.

Chelsea have now kept five clean sheets this season and have yet to concede at Stamford Bridge. Away trips at Villa, Blackburn and Liverpool in the next four will test their defensive resolve, but it remains essential to cover Chelsea’s relentless march on the title with investment in all departments of your Fantasy squad. Alex’s thunderous free-kick was coming after finding the woodwork on two occasions previously; he remains a rotation risk however, as Carlo Ancelotti will soon have his pack boosted by the return of Jose Bosingwa as a right-back option. It’s difficult to look beyond Ashley Cole for Chelsea defensive coverage – even with his lofty price tag.

Newcastle’s trip to Man City saw a major surprise from Chris Hughton, with Andy Carroll (and Wayne Routledge) left on the bench for the first league game this season, making way for Shola Ameobi and Jonas Gutierrez respectively. Routledge’s time out of the starting XI only lasted a matter of minutes, however, thanks to Nigel de Jong’s leg-breaking challenge on Hatem Ben Arfa, who will now spend a substantial part of his season-long loan from Marseille on the sidelines. Routledge will surely come back into the starting lineup for Gameweek 8’s home clash with Wigan, whilst Carroll owners should be reasonably confident that he will also regain his starting role in that one.

Adam Johnson once again returned to the role of substitute, despite his midweek goal against Juventus in the Europa League. Coming off the bench on the 70th minute, Johnson didn’t take long to make an impact; within five minutes the winger had grabbed City’s winner (and was also awarded the 3 Bonus Points) in a 2-1 victory they made hard work of. Carlos Tevez, once again, scored for City, thanks to a dubiously awarded penalty in a game that saw Jerome Boateng make his first league start for Roberto Mancini’s side, as City moved up to second in the table.

For a side challenging for the top spots, City are still struggling to generate the weight goal opportunities you would expect. With three away games in the next four, owners of Tevez and Johnson will still have some concern that Mancini’s cautious, defend and “wait for the magic” tactics, currently look unlikely to produce large victory margins and big Fantasy returns. At the other end, City were breached against Newcastle, but remain one of the stronger defences in terms of opportunities granted to opponents. Boateng’s start puts him on the radar as a possible target, once we can be sure of his security at right-back. Gutierrez proved a handful on Sunday and Boateng will need to be more convincing if he is to cement a starting role.

Things go from bad to worse at Anfield. Liverpool’s defeat to Blackpool confines them to a bottom three position and, with the Kop baying for Dalglish, it’s clear that Roy Hodgson is in dire trouble. The fixture list looked so rosy for Liverpool a fortnight ago and yet in two home games against Sunderland and Blackpool, they have failed to win and have conceded 4 goals. With a lack of fluency and a lack of Fernando Torres, there’s little doubt that Liverpool have now been labelled a no-go area for Fantasy investment at both ends of the field.

Torres suffered a groin injury in yesterday’s defeat with Hodgson unsure over the severity of the injury and the likely length of absence. The international break may do Hodgson a favour and get the Spaniard back in contention but a trip to Goodison next certainly gives him no favours as far as fixtures are concerned. Everton will be buoyant after their win at Birmingham and will be looking forward to inflicting another blow to a wounded Liverpool in Gameweek 8.

Blackpool continue to surprise and, from 5 away games in their first 7 Premier League outings, Ian Holloway’s side have won 3 of them. Predictably, Charlie Adam has emerged as the “talent” within their squad and his two spot-kicks agianst Newcastle and at Anfield yesterday, have boosted his Fantasy returns to put him firmly on the radar as a bargain fifth midfielder. Maximum FPL Bonus Points arrived yesterday too and he, along with Everton’s Mikel Arteta, has now gathered this on three occasions. Blackpool will likely need to keep winning games for that to continue but the fixtures are on their side over the coming Gameweeks. Three home games in four now follow and Adam is sure to pick up a good deal of Fantasy interest as a result.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

From what I gather from comments on here from folk, he's had a bad start and compounded it by some bad pics trying to be mr differential. Ach well I don't know the fella, fair play to him for last season but it looks like he's not really putting up a good defence of his crown. Besides winning FPL overall twice on the run would be damned near impossible

umm. its not that simple. cole costs 1.6 more. that can be used anywhere you choose, and it (where you use it) can and will change over the season.

IMO, Alex is good enough. Drogba+Malouda+Cole is just too expensive. And I dont have the balls/stupidity to drop Malouda...

Can i just make a point about Bale, everyone has been begging for him to LM for ages now, now he finally has and people wanna get rid. I can see the appeal of VDV but Bale is still a menace and could quite easily outscore VDV in the next few games.

Not really everyone else can do what they want coz if he does start scoring well and everyone has got rid then I'll be the one benefitting. If the spurs finishing had been better over the last few games he would have racked in the points, I'd be more worried if he hasn't been doing anything.

All I'm getting at is him playing at LB he is like a defender with out the clean sheets where things like assists and goals are a bonus, so the fact he's not been getting those clean sheet points makes him look poor but he's a victim of being OOP, if he plays the next 3 games at LM and still gets nothing then it might be time to move along but I just feel it might have been too early to get rid, he's still be playing well and creating chances.

Reason I got rid of Bale isn't really due to Bale as such, VdV can create and score his own goals, Bale generally has to rely on the incompetent strikers to score to get the FPL returns. Thats the problem for me.
This season he has been unlucky, but I think VdV will generate more points than him

Why would you take either Nani or Albrighton OUT? Nani is in form and is United's creative core, Albrighton is also in form and is dirt cheap.

Malouda OUT Fabregas IN for me

Been dwelling on this exact move for a couple of days. Tough to let go of Malouda but it would even out my midfield and allow to me to get in Tevez eventually. Drogs should be DECENT enough Chelsea attacking coverage.

I am going to do it, on WC week this week and I like how Arteta seems to be building to something, saves 1.5 for me that I can spend elsewhere, midfield of VDV/Nani/Malouda/Etherington/N'Zogbia is just too much dough

Ask around there in the chat. If Max and Min define the range towards a rise/fall. Mostly the Max is what you should go with. Keep an eye on Min when a player comes out of protection (since nobody knows till the price rises or falls if he was indeed protected or not)

on the left there is a table of risers and fallers, the higher the % the closer to a drop or rise, over 100% is dropping territory, thats the basic explaination, wel thats how i see it, probably get shot down now 🙂

That is a brilliant celebration. Not quite as good as Jimmy Bullard's at Eastlands last season though.

While we're on the subject of fish, David Platt has a horrible fishy face. Like a turbot.

Love the way everyone expects a striker who originally cost 5m will score 30 a season. He wont - thats why he cost 5m.

Yeah, even at today's Prices Tevez and Adam is £15.9m while Carroll and Dempsey is £12.4m... there's three and half million extra playing money with that Carroll option, which all generally counts into the equation.

calendar weeks are irrelevant, 99% of references to "weeks" on this site mean gameweeks as defined by FPL.

                  Should be

                  Enrique Coloccini Taylor Simpson

But I really dont know about Steven Taylor, he is transfer listed as Ashley plays hardball over contract renewal, and he has Campbell and the pretty impressive Williamson to contend with. Id look at the other three, and will be going with Simpson myself when he makes his impending return to the side.

He's back with the reserves now, wouldnt be suprised to see him either starting or on the bench in the next game. Perch has been ok, but I think he'll make way pretty soon.

i am a little bit scared of taking a four point hit to get rid of torres now (as there might be injuries to some of my players on international duty ) but i also think its foolish to not sell torres now should i sell or not sell (note already did JEvans to avoid further price drop torrest is currently 11.6m i bought him at 11.5 it there any chance that by gamewweek 10 he will be 11.3 i can affor him to be 11.4 but not 11.3m

                                Good game? Pfft.

It was a classic Chelsea-Arsenal game. Arsenal huffed and puffed about 30 yards away from Cech, and created nothing. Every time we went forward we looked very scoring...

Although Koscielny's miss in the first minute was awful.

Proper defender's header that was, almost as though he thinks he always had to head the ball over the bar.

Only saw MOTD2 over the weekend as I was working (took my mind off my worst ever GW) but Chamakh looked to be chief culprit.

                                They were raving about Ramires.

Yeah Ramires was dodgy for the first 20 minutes, gave the ball away a few times, but after that he was magnificent.

Was at the game, and trust me, he is unbelievably quick.

really jamsiep? I'd say it took two pretty amazing goals to win it for you guys. Arsenal had more chances too. Not quite the usual game, even though the result was typical. I was glad to see Arshavin and Nasri shooting. Certainly we (gunners) fared FAR better than we did in either match-up last season

But did you really have that many chances? There was Koscielny's header and one from Chamakh at the end, but not that much more than that... And Anelka's chance was probably easier than the both of them.

Haven't seen MOTD2, were either of the penalty claims any good? I remember thinking, along with the whole of the west stand, that the ball hit Koscielny (I think) on the arm in the box in the first half... and what about when Chamakh went down after Cech came in for the ball?

We didnt have too many chances, agreed. Cech pulled off a stunning save to deny Arshavin though.

Apart from Anelka's criminal miss, you guys had two shots didn't you - both unbelievable goals. In previous years its been domination. At 1-0 the game could quite easily have ended in a draw.

FWIW, I didnt think either should have been penalties. Good refereeing aside from both Song and Ramires deserving a booking each...

Maybe I'd be better disposed towards him if he hadn't always played for Bolton. He's never been fun to watch.

I can't think of any English striker I'd honestly rather have than him right now, it's indicative that we don't have masses of great options ...but yeah, he'll do. [unless I'm missing someone?]

He's a good player, would do a job if required (which he won't be).

Yeah that's the thing. He's very unlikely to play, so it doesn't really matter...

Who are the other options anyway? Carroll and Carlton Cole? I'd definitely rather have Davies out of those three.

Gah, just got back from the dentist T___T

ood god though, I was hoping and praying that Caroll stayed off the pitch after Alex scored that goal. Still, not a bad result.

I brought in odemwingie on sat and took advantage of the 0.1 increase but have noticed elmander looks to be going up tonight and he has more favourable fixtures.

so, in short odenwatsit or elmander?

my transfer over the break will be

                gerrard -> fabregas

                like many others imagine

what im wondering is , i need .3 to fund it, and not sure where to get it from

downgrading Van Damme to a very cheap defender , possibly jara

or maybe konchesky to a less cheap defender

                any ideas?

I didn't mind the .1 drop as it didn't hurt me financially - But at this rate he may, although it will slow down a helluva lot after tomorrow I would have thought until after the internationals next week.

I don't understand why people are dropping him before a home game with Wigan. I know he didn't start the last game at Citeh but I'd be very surprised if he didn't return to the XI next weekend, he will have recovered fully from the virus Hughton said he had.

People are invariably idiots, and given that 40% of people owned him at one point or another... a slight gust of wind in the wrong direction will always get a whole loads of nancy nelly's worrying.

On WC, more mental to drop Malouda or Drogba people think? If I drop Malouda I have to make up .4 to get him back, Drogba, .3. I have a hunch that with the fixtures and some of the strife behind him, Rooney will come back to form (I say this, and hope this as a United fan, so obviously biased), and with Rooney's good fixtures and Drogba's less favourable fixtures I am actually considering dropping either the Drog or Malouda

Just read the article on De Mong, Bert van Marwijk has rocketed in my estimation for deciding to leave him out of the Dutch squad. Still in shock that Keegan etc tried to pass it off as a fair challenge, as van Marwijk says:
"It was a wild and unnecessary offence. He went in much too hard."
"It is unfortunate, especially since he does not need to do it."
"The funny thing is that the referee did not even show a yellow card for it. Apparently, there are other standards."
"But I have a problem with the way Nigel needlessly looks to push the limit. I am going to speak to him."
Surely he should be retrospectively banned for this type of challenge.

De Jong has now broken 2 legs in the past year. He broke Stuart Holden's leg in a friendly against the U.S. What a piece of shite that man

De Jong is a thug. He belongs at a club like Stoke, where leg-breaking is more acceptable and expected.

That's not fair on Stoke. I don't believe Shawcross meant to cripple Ramsey, and I'm assuming that's the tackle you're alluding to. De Jong's a nasty little f4cker.

He'd fit in at Wolves though. They're so going down this season. Not sure who'll join them though. Should be very interesting at the bottom this year.

                RMT

                Carson - Mignolet

                Alex - O'Shea - Konchesky - Foley - Mummy

                Malouda - Gerrard - Bale - Dempsey - Barton

                Drogba - Tevez - Odemwingie

I want to bring in Fabregas but would have to take a hit to do it.

                1. Should I save my transfer this week and bring him in the next?
                2. Are there any weaknesses/weak players in my team that need out?

Gerrard is a gamble, but it may pay off handsomely. Then again it really might not!
Good strike force, but I do think you need a regular performer like a fit Fabregas in your mid to go alongside Malouda.
I'd personally be unsure of O'Shea's prospects, and Foley isn't the best pic. When is Gordon returning to replace Mignolet?
Other than those admittedly relatively minor quibbles its a decent side.
