Another international break has given us the time and space once more to look back over a month (and an extra day or so) across the variety of Fantasy Football Scout Leagues.

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is of course our most intrepid and time consuming endeavour, so we’ll be starting off on the pastures that are most familiar to us…

Fantasy Premier League

The Good…

We start with a pat on the back for our good selves, which coincidentally means nothing without you lot, as the Fantasy Football Scout league itself is a healthy yard or two in the lead as the league to beat, with almost a 10 point lead. A milestone has also been reached as we crossed 5,000 league members in this last week. Not joined yet? Then roll up, roll up and let’s take over the shop.

In the league we have site poster WhoWhoZela storming the rankings currently, with a healthy six point lead over safir islam in second place as Zophar builds on his August Members League success by rounding out in third place. Five thousand or so other managers have them in their sights.

As for the weekly battles we see Roger C top Head to Head One with a record of six out of seven, better than anyone else, including lead chaser Adil. Head to Head Two sees dadoune lead tinoss based on overall ranking in an even contest among the top four. TorresMagic is miles clear of Mark (that’s our Mark) in our third Head to Head, while Rouge123 tries to catch up on leader Denial in the fourth of our leagues.

Dan B settles into top spot of our fifth Head to Head league thanks to his world ranking of 48th, as The Fish hopes being almost 23,000 places back won’t hurt too much. Cake or Death and BilboBaggins hold the one-two places respectively in the sixth league. The last, but not least, select entry Head to Head (number seven), sees EasyLuckyFree have a slender lead over greghammer95.

There are nine Managers in our Reserve League who are unbeaten after seven fixtures, with one overall point handing Graeme Matthew the lead as of now.

The Bad…
Not to dwell on the unfortunate too much, but everyone likes to know there’s always someone doing worse than them, and those about to be highlighted may even help from a casual kick up the proverbial.

JWF JN, Sparky, SuperDunny, Donnylad, gizmothelegend and rrcmc are the seven managers at the bottom of each of our Head to Head leagues – you’ve got a month or so to get your names off the “must try harder” list.

Shane Ettridge and his vertical smile gets the wooden spoon at this venture, and he’s a little unfortunate as his weekly score of 39 points sees him bottom of the Fantasy Football Scout league – to be fair to him though, he did only start this week.

The Ugly… (otherwise known as the Scout team)

Last time we spoke a measly five points separated Granville and Mark after one month of action; a little over two months gone and Mark has made a charge on his mancunian cohort to pass and now lead by 17 points; that’s what four of those elusive green arrows in the row will do for you. In doing so, Mark has also soared to the top of the Contributors League with a passing manoeuvre on Sir Paulos this most recent gameweek. I find myself in sixth, still, for the umpteenth week in a row but changes are afoot – Pure Olivia is catching up fast, so seventh beckons soon.

Metro Fantasy Football

The manager currently at the peak of the Fantasy Football Scout league is Pat Lawes, making the most of the less than judicious Metro rules by also chasing their own wake in second place too. Hmmm, here’s hoping the multi-teamers see some keen competition from the solo players like myself (oh, I fell from 90th to 104th since last time) as the months roll on.

European Adventures

The midweek Champions League adventures kicked off their long thirteen gameweek adventure and our Scout League celebrates being first place in the league of league competition. Miroslav Markovic and Francois Bozize (our league one-two) have our thanks for that.

The extreme managers who requested a Scout League for some sadistic Thursday Europa League action got their wish. Ajay Gera and Garima Gulyani are the only two of 57 mangers to break one hundred points so far. Scout, and cup maestro, Akers is right up there too in fourth place.

That’s just about everything. See you in early November for some more Scout League fireworks.

Looking for value or points? Long term Elmohamady looks the better option but for the next few weeks, O'Shea should get you points. There is the rotation risk though and Elmo looks safer.

I would have been more inclined to believe him if he hadn't sent him out on loan. Your midfield could really do with some creativity this season too.

That's true, but the article explains why. With Valencia's ankle snapping off, they have changed the loan deal to 6 months from a year and are getting him back, hopefully to have an impact.

Captain Cesc Fabregas yesterday declared himself fully fit following a hamstring injury, while Nicklas Bendtner has returned to training and Robin van Persie is progressing following his own ankle injury.

It is even possible that Fabregas, Walcott and Bendtner could all return for the home match against Birmingham on Oct 16.

Nah, Alex is a great defender, he should be nailed on to start with Terry imo. He'll miss one game at most, and i'm starting to think the injury was very convenient just before two long haul flights to brazil.

        Jaask (Robinson)

        P.Jones - Richards - Mummy - (Williamson, Dann)

Nani - Bale - Arshavin - Malouda (Larsson)

        Berbatov - Tevez (Dembele)

To sell Malouda or not...some opposing views on here, but I think it depends on your rank. If I was top 10K-ish then I'd keep hold as he will be a regular points scorer (though expect plenty of 2s along with the 12s). However, I'm clearly not top 10K-ish, so selling him is a risk I have to take to catch up. He'll never be my captain as I'll captain Drog in any easy game, and I can see lean points for Malouda in the next 4 matches.

So in my situation, Malouda's head is on the block but I can understand why others recommend keeping hold.

Good summary marknlard, It is a gamble to get rid of him, I'll be holding as I see him as great value but I am as you say top 10k atm.
A mid of malouda, nani, vdv, fab and barton is my aim now, will take a few weeks to make it happen though.

the obvious move for me would to bring in VdV for him allowing me to upgrade my defence aswell
Vdvs fixtures arent the best so i may hold off for now.

i also think lampard coming back may take some of the points off malouda and possibly drogba.
they also have champs league and carlo does like a rotation here and there unlike united who dont have anyone else bar nani to play out wide.

Interesting to see a lot of other people weighing up the value of Malouda. I'm looking at how I'm going to get Fabregas back in, which may mean dropping Malouda, and I'm not too happy about this fact.

Leading on from this, is it total sacrilege to suggest that Fabregas isn't 100% necessary this year? Don't answer that, I know it is, but he does tie up a lot of money. If Malouda keeps up his early season form, could he not be a Fabregas-substitute, and allow you to have a much stronger squad elsewhere?

I know I'm kidding myself and I'm going to need Fabregas at some point, I just wish I didn't...

Johnny, Fabs has only done 90 minutes once this season and scored 11 in that game. He's in just 7% of teams, he's a brilliant player to have, more essential than Malouda in my opinion. Far more regular points and only slightly more expensive. It's that one 90 minute stat that would put me off (if anything was to put me off, which it isn't).

Yeah, I know... just wish he was less essential, I've got too many midfielders I want to try and fit in.

How would you rank Malouda, Nani, VdV and Arteta in terms of necessity? I'm thinking I might have to come to a compromise of Fabregas, VdV, Arteta and then a couple of value players: Barton/Cleverley/Albrighton plus a Dempsey/Etherington type.

            I hate compromise.

no from previous (recent) international tournaments and also with international friendlies (which would mean a lot more if there was a ranking to play for)

I would make a 2 week break in the season for international friendlies where each country in the world could play 2 games in 2 weeks and have a quality training camp - then there is no need for all these breaks disrupting the domestic season. Has to be better than international managers getting a day here and there and constantly battling with club managers.

So that's two friendlies a season. The rankings are hardly going to change much with that.

It's a terrible idea, at least with qualifying now it's a clean slate each time (seedings apart). This just means the same countries every single tournament. Why should New Zealand for example, undefeated in the last World Cup, not get the chance to go because France reached the final in 2006? That's the situations you'd have.

2 friendlies in an allocated 2 weeks, yes.

You could also have friendlies in the build up to major tournaments.

To be honest i am just trying to think of a way of minimizing the amount of international breaks.

I also believe that the qualifying process is pointless for the bigger teams. England can be abject and still qualify for a tournament if they have to play the likes of andorra, san marino and co. pointless.

btw the same countries by and large do qualify for each tournament.

Would a friendly in May 2010 have counted towards the World Cup 2010, Euro 2012 or World Cup 2014?

If a country is rubbish, I'd rather they weren't at a tournament. Would England's presence have improved Euro 2008? Not on the evidence of their 2010 performance.

    My team is linked.

What do U think of this plan?

GW 8 Alex out for Jara (or other 4m defender with reasonable fixtures the next few weeks). I do this to avoid Alex’s drop in price due to his injuries.

Gw 9. Etherington out for 4,5 m mid (Morrisson, Albrighton or Etuhu?)

GW 10. Fabs and 4m def. in for Bale and Hughes (and a 4 point hit).

Berba has some good fixtures coming up. But if he isn’t scoring enough, I can always switch him for Odemwingie and one of my 4,5 mids for VdV!!

100 times better than Torres v Blackpool thanks 🙂

The photographer who was with me captured some truly stunning pictures. The ad is planned for next autumn, for the run-up to Xmas 2011, and a decision on the location will be made in the new year.

Great. Cape Town is nice that time of the year. And cheap.

Well Fabregas has tweeted that he's fit and in full training. That's enough for me, he's in my team.

A lot of people have said that they might do Malouda > Fabs as Malouda have tough fixtures coming up. That's fine, but then if you sell him now it will cost about £0.5m to bring him back in assuming you've had him a while. This is a problem.

Yeah, if you sell him it should be long term. Saying that, it's not too hard this season to raise money by getting cheaper players in to fund that kind of thing.

I would say no as I don't like taking hits that involve defenders. Can you not do it over 2 gameweeks by doing the Alex transfer then Bale following week as Spurs are away to Fulham.

think more price rises during internationals = fallacy

the effect is minimal, prob due to the number of wc being played, making it self fulfilling
