I’ve been toying with the idea of a random news article for a while; a quick mix of opinion and links to stories and events of the last 24-hours. The international break, and the unnerving hush that it brings around the Premier League, offered me the ideal opportunity. Here’s the first set of “Scout Scribbles” then…

So far it appears that Friday’s internationals have passed without any major injury concerns for us Fantasy Managers. Stoke’s Thomas Sorensen did however suffer a recurrence of his ongoing elbow injury which saw him subbed on 32 minutes in the 3-1 defeat to Portugal. Sorensen will be a doubt for Denmark’s qualifier with Cyprus on Tuesday and could also go into Stoke’s trip to Bolton as an injury concern for Tony Pulis. As a side note, Nani continued his sparkling form this season with a brace in that 3-1 win for Portugal.

The Bandwagonesque Rafael Van der Vaart came through 90 minutes for Holland as they ran out 1-0 winners in Moldova. Typically, Van der Vaart provided the assist for Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s winner. His new Fantasy owners will now be looking anxiously to Tuesday’s qualifier with Sweden in Amsterdam and hoping that he can again come through unscathed. Those who have yet to jump on board and have watched his price rise, will be hoping for something very different.

Reports in the Sun this morning, claim that Wes Brown feels that he may be given the elbow at Old Trafford following a pre-season slanging match with Alex Ferguson. Brown has yet to start a Premier League game this season and if there is indeed a rift in place, these latest reports are hardly likely to win him favour with Ferguson. Good news for John O’Shea owners perhaps.

Wes Brown isn’t the only Premier League player set to be victim of a loose lips – Birmingham’s Alexander Hleb is unlikely to benefit from his comments made to the press which were published on Friday. The report offered such gems as…

“In the recent Birmingham games there was a lot of struggle – they were ¬constantly hoofing the long ball forward.”

and

“The Birmingham style is not the kind of game I dreamed about.”

The frustrated St Andrews faithful must have loved that. Alex McLeish meanwhile, will of course deal with that in his own subtle little way I’m sure. He certainly offered little comfort to Hleb in his recent comments on Birmingham’s tactics. According to McLeish, we’re unlikely to see Birmingham shift to 4-4-2 for the foreseeable – apparently they don’t have a player who can make the ball stick up front. Obviously the 6 ft 8 in frame of Nikola Zigic isn’t up to the job; that was many “undisclosed” millions well spent then.

Newcastle have confirmed that Andy Carroll has signed a new 5-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2015. The move follows Carroll’s relegation to the bench at City last time out, a move which obviously broke the patience of some of his Fantasy owners. Carroll has been sold by over 30,000 Fantasy Premier League Managers in the current Gameweek and yet he will face four home matches in the next six, with Wigan, Sunderland, Blackburn and Fulham providing the opponents for those games. Personally, I think they’ll be 30,000+ managers feeling rather regretful over the next few weeks.

Everton are currently running tests on the hamstring injury sustained by Phil Jagielka whilst in training with England on Friday. Jagielka has returned to the club and there are also some “very unconfirmed” reports that he will be sidelined for a number of weeks. Regardless of whether you put any stock in that particular source, it’s clear that Jagielka is a major doubt for Sunday’s Merseyside derby. David Moyes will likely turn to Jonny Heitinga to fill the void alongside Distin in central defence. He will be an able replacement, but Jagielka’s loss would still come as a major blow for Moyes – particularly as his defence was showing promise with just a single goal conceded in the last three.

Heitinga’s shift to defence will relieve the clamour for places in midfield; Moyes’ options here have already been cut here by the recent injury to Steven Pienaar and there are also concerns over Tim Cahill’s availability for Sunday’s game. Cahill will likely start for Australia against Paraguay today, despite worries over a persistent knee problem. All these injuries in midfield could just add up to a prolonged run of starts for Seamus Coleman.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hmm it really depends what your "goal" is.

If your 100% focus is on the cup then obviously you have to be wary of hits. Don't make your transfers until the last minute so you can see what your opponent has done.

Or, if you're looking at the bigger picture and to try and get the best total possible over the course of the season, obviously at some point hits will become necessary.

What I'd suggest is, don't compromise your season for the sake of a cup tie.

right hadn't planned on putting the cup over the season obviously. we're able to see what our opponents have done prior to the gw kicking off though?

Well you can't see which transfers, just how many - like you can with anyone. Sorry if I got your hopes up there...

For example say you're thinking about making a 8 point hit but you're not sure, it's worth seeing if your opponent has taken any sort of a hit as it will make it make your decision easier.

Yeah, I'm not expecting to go anywhere in the cup, especially as I'm playing someone in the top 2k places.

I'd take the hit if it improves your team over the long haul and helps you win your mini league. That's what I'll be doing.

Barca are a bit disappointing, it was the tiny squad that annoyed me. Apart from Bojan and Busquets the options were minimal.
We should try one where everyone plays as the same team for the craic.

    Hypothetical question.

Which two top flight club teams (regardless of era ) would you like to play each other?

I'd pitch in with Real Madrid 1960 v Ajax 1972. The Galloping Major & Cruyff on the same pitch, wow.

I know it could probably annoy some people - but to be fair there is bugger all to say about fantasy football this week. We can't be like little dung beetles rolling the same shit back and forth. And there are quite a few on here who are gonna want to talk about fifa, maybe a new article reserved solely for fifa chat could be an answer - so the normal articles dont become cluttered?

ya, that's my dilemma- can't seem to find room for nani. if ethers goes up .1 more back to where he was when i first bought him and i sell cole, then i could bring in nani (assuming no more price rises for him, which is a bit optimistic)

Yeah, young Nani looks an absolute must have... but that's no secret on here!

You have to remember that only for a missed pen against fulham he'd be the top scoring player in the game after Drogs [+5 for goal +2 for pen miss +3 BP's = 58]... and with Valencia injured he's at little risk of rotation... 3 home games in next four... cheapish... he's got it all going for him this year

                    1> 5> 4> 3> 2

But in saying that they're all quality. Love the scene when McNulty has to collect a drunken Bunk from some bird's house, hilarious

nice stuff, ya myself and 15 friends set up one league were all in. 4 seasons in now.

the results are very random at times, not much consistency, but the transfers are great fun, good forum to go with it as well

last week benching adam killed me so i vowed to never do it again hahah. those were also my hesitations, but decided to go w/the home teams. blackburn at home more likely to get a cleanie than sunderland away to them i think, althought could likely be 0-0. ethers has been in good form, but away to fulham makes me a bit weary.

I was surprised by the ads too - and me no likey either.
Load up is really sluggish and sometimes it even defaults to basic format in protest.

I'm hoping it's temporary, maybe for the international break, but I feel I'm kidding myself here. It's a shame (perhaps a necessary shame, but a shame nonetheless).

PS - I really don't want half price laser eye surgery. If I'm going to pay money to have some quack shine lasers in my eyes and burn new shapes in my corneas*, I want to be damn sure they are not cutting costs for the sake of a cheap deal.

no way ...i was an undying fan of pro evo up until pes 6 which i still think was there best pro evo

pes 7 was insanely fast and pes 8 was interesting at first but way too easy to score..then i tried fifa 10 and the pes last year and fifa 10 annihalated pes so it was the first fifa i bought

and then this year fifa 11 is so dam good specially keepers have been sorted..scorings a bit more difficult but its proper realistic
pes has the arrows from the old pes games and just feels so boring and unrealistic now

I still think Matt will win, at least I think he should. His voice is unreal...

Aidan, Matt, Rebecca, Treyc and, begrudgingly, Cher were the best tonight.

yeah, it is quite sad that Cher > Aiden is genuinely more interesting than Bale > VDV. I will say one more thing: I wouldn't have fancied having Wagner as my PE teacher when I was at school. Eeek.

agree. that was a quality performance (Beyonce one). I think for his own good they should separate him from his crusty hat though. He still looks a bit of a jakeball even with a smart shirt. The smart shirt doesn't cancel out the crusty hat.

I agree in some ways but its an entertainment show over a singing contest, they just think people are too dumb and have too short an attention spans to just watch someone sing.

Also agree on Cher, thought I was losing it but I thought she was crap too, she's a bit of a freak too and her obsession with crap rapping isn't good either, those girls were awful too but were at actually good at judges houses.

Cher is a Chav, the public would never vote for a chav to win as they are a stain on society.

Danyl Johnson should have walked it last year but the public didn't warm to his personality and history, same thing will happen to that Pikey scum.

Tracey, Matt or Aiden will win, the young boy band to be dark horses, Scouse girl is too dull to get votes when the crunch comes.

I would love to see the Irish lady win, that's who I want to win.
