When compared to the vast majority of sides that have previously been promoted from the Championship, Blackpool’s impact in the Premier League has been a real breath of fresh air. Pre-season, most talk was centred around Ian Holloway and how -somewhat patronisingly- the Seasiders’ boss would bring a “bit of character” to the top division, but the first seven gameweeks have seen his team’s on-pitch performances grab the headlines instead.

Central to the team’s success has been the club’s playmaker Charlie Adam. The ex-Rangers man currently sits on 38pts in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, the third-highest scoring midfielder in the game so far, behind only Florent Malouda and Nani. A breakdown of his points shows Adam has scored 2 goals, made 2 assists and has 9 Bonus Points, being awarded the maximum 3 on 3 occasions, including the club’s last game, the 2-1 win at Anfield, where he bagged a penalty. In terms of midfielders, only Mikel Arteta can match this as a Bonus “darling”.

A look at our OPTA Stats, showing Adam’s involvement in the games, may explain why this is. Only three players have saw more of the ball; his 616 “Touches” is more than the likes of Arteta and Steven Gerrard and just five behind Paul Scholes. His 15 “Shots at Goal” have him in the top ten midfielders, and defensive-wise, he’s also in the top ten midfielders for “Duels”, “Aerial Duels”, “Loose Ball Recoveries” and “Blocks”. Added to the fact he’s on set-pieces and penalties, and it becomes clearer to see exactly not just how influential Adam is for Blackpool, but, perhaps, how eye-catching he may be to the Bonus Point judges.

With most people expecting Graham Dorrans to be the main Fantasy option from the promoted sides, thanks to Holloway’s attacking ethos, Adam has subsequently out-shone his fellow Scot by some margin already. Blackpool’s approach to games has meant that, despite playing five of their first seven matches away from home, they tend to get amongst the goals, with only Chelsea and Arsenal keeping clean sheets against Holloway’s men so far.

Adam comes in at just £5.2m and is owned by 9% of FPL managers so far. Such a low price means that, in terms of “Value“, he is joint-top, with West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie. Blackpool now have four of their seven fixtures at home (MCY, bir, WBA, EVE, avl, whm, WOL) though judging by their displays so far, it almost seems an irrelevance as to what ground their fixtures are played on. The one constant that does flow through them, however, is the Fantasy potential of Charlie Adam.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Little bit of help....

I need to drop either A.Cole of Malouda. Don't like the idea of being without a chelsea defender but can i really drop Malouda???

Any advice appreciated. I need to make the decision today as away for a few day...

Malouda is going to get rotated but I can only see him missing the Wolves game and maybe one of the Fulham/Sunderland fixtures.. though with Wolves rough style of play , it could be that Drogba gets injured gw 8 and then Malouda will be a must-have !.. its a tough decision, I dont see Chelsea keeping a CS vs Pool and Blackburn

I did a review on this exact issue and what I can say is that Nani is good substitute as he offers assist potential currently. He's scored only 2 goals against Malouda's 6 but offers a bit more in terms of his set pieces and crosses from open play...If you can ignore the fact that Nani sometimes blows cold then I would say he is your option as an alternative...then again...looking at stats and with the above article in mind...Adam could even be an option...but I say Nani...(if you don't have him already)...and you wanna sell Malouda...I assume to free up cash...if not then I wouldn't touch the transfer just yet...as long as Malouda scores goals then he should be your man still...

        Just a thought...

Funny that - everyone was saying that about the Arsenal game and look what happened....

Fact of the matter is that more often than not Chelsea will score more than most teams and Malouda will be one of the major factors, and Chelsea will concede less than most teams and you will want either Cole or Alex in your teams.

        So I say keep both.

Left-back Paul Konchesky could also be available to make his derby debut after responding well to treatment on his hamstring problem."

"Paul is coming along well and will join in full training on Thursday for the first time," he added.

ok, i think im gonna wildcard, questions though on goalkeepers. Im thinking i need a pair of 4.0 ers , and im gonna rotate them till gw 23-27 and wildcard II time

    so, these are the candidates;

Gilks, Krul, Carson, Mignolet, Al Habsi

Carson is the only sure starter really isnt he?

Is Krul nailed on to start every week barring injury? (he looks the best fistures for the next 8 or so anyway).

Mignolet has Gordon to come back though doesnt he?

Golks is nailed on starter i know,

and Al habsi, well he's at Wigan, and kirkland is shite, but i couldnt have a Wigan goalie as my keeper...

Any input on who you'd choose?

yeah, way i see if, its not worth the extra half million/one mil for two other keepers. Once you rotate well, you'll get the same points come the end of the season, give or take a small bit.

Gordon is nearly back. Can't see him not coming in soon. I would avoid Mignolet. Krul should be fine until xmas as Harper is out until then.

I would go Krul & Carson if you really want 2 4.0s, otherwise I would choose Foster & Krul as they rotate well.

Well I am on WC and I have kept Foster and will rotate with Krul, I think they rotate the best, haven't looked at 4.0 and 4.0 keepers, I would pick Carson and Krul, that also means that you may be put off cheapies like Jara and Simpson in defence then however, I personally will double up on Simpson and Krul, maybe playing only one of them at times when Newcastle play at home.

Mignolet has Gordon as competition and while he is number one for now, that could change, and fook having to make further keeper changes down the line

Unfortunately there have been no double risers bar VDV who I brought in and may ship prior to deadline. Adam/Elmo/Tevez/Toure may all make the double jump in the coming days and particularly by Saturday morning, but who knows, they are on the right track anyway bar Toure, who has a bit to go at 30%.

I have been doing so much deliberating I almost want the week to start and be done with it!

Because Spurs fixtures aren't great in the next 3-4 and I have made .1 on him, plus, I may want to have Malouda/Nani/Fabregas/Boateng/O'Shea/Tevez/Drogba as my "expensive" players, and VDV doesn't let me have that, I also think with fixtures Arteta may be better option than VDV over next 3-4 instead

I fancy the Newcastle and Brum defences over Wigan anyday, you are basing the best rotation on one of them having a home game every second week, but surely there are some really tough home games just as there would be with any other keeper rotation strategy?

^^^ Because of this. I don't think there is a need to rush to get Fabs in, especially for a points hit. As long as you have him by gameweek 10.

Nah, I wouldn't even consider it until
      a) They get rid of the glasses and make a decent viewing angle
      b) There's a shedload of films ready to go
      c) There's a decent broadcast channel in 3D
      d) There's a dedicated 3D console (not an add-on like the PS3)

Yeah i was just reading the reviews and so far most ppl have the same issue. More issue for me because im short sighted, so for me to watch anything 3D i have to wear the funny looking glasses on top of my normal glasses...Thats a funny look i tell u and to think me doing that everytime to watch TV is just mental...

Yeah, IMO, just get a cheap-ish 50" plasma for now. It's not 3D, but it's mint, especially for video games.

i really think roy hodgson drills his defences and its not long till leverpool start showing on the pitch what they do at training
and defence will be roy's focus as he attempts to get pool to climb up the league table
so konchesky is the cheapest leverpool defender i could afford

To avoid a massive point hit for Cesc I'm thinking of Bale > Arshavin (c) this week, covering me Arsenal and letting me 'save up' in increments for a Cesc upgrade - hopefully made just in time before he goes supernova against NEWC or someone.

As shown with chalkboards on here recently, Chamakh draws to the wings and makes gaps for whoever's wide at Arsenal. Arshavin has been involved a lot already this season, he got two assists against Macedonia, and I reckon he's due a big score.

Don't try to back me down...

Arshavin (C)?! I am reluctant to put (C) on Fabregas as it's Birmingham away, but I won't try and talk you out of it, Arshavin burned me way too many times last year with a little promise of form here and there, only to disappoint, but go with your gut!

          Thanks for the link, Dbronaldo.

Sorry, I meant 2 assists against RoI.

I also only meant to show that his passing is on the money or thereabouts - not re. formation.

5 goals and 5 assists in 9 (2) appearences in all competitions - and that's with him still mucking up a lot of chances.

I watch him quite a lot and I reckon he's about to blow up. I also like what he's been saying about wanting to score some beautiful goals. I'm going with gut as Johnny says.

    B) nani

Ive made 1 transfer Bale - Vdv and still have 1 freebie. Not sure what to do. This is my team

    Carson (Foster)
    Mummy SHawcross Konchesky (Alex, Gouhori)
    Arteta Nani Malouda Ethers VDV
    Drogba Carrol (Dembele)

I want to get fabs in but i might just wait until gw 10 because im thinking of using my transfer to change carson to another gkeeper who rotates better with Foster.. Any Ideas ?

Will probably keep the transfer .. make one for gw 9 and then gw 10 do Arteta - Fabs and Alex - Baines.

Another big question is wether or not to keep Malouda ? There is the threat of him getting rested but pretty much every1 in my mini league that matters have him anyway so I think Im gonna keep him just in case he goes crazy!!

Also I have 4.2 in the bank so its nice money to be able to play around with 🙂

did you see my comment? There are bound to be as many "sticky" home fixtures for Wigan in that time though, where it doesn't matter that they are at home as it is up against United or Spurs or Villa, sides that score goals (usually!), same can be said for any rotating keeper combo I think

Johnny, when you say , THERE ARE BOUND to be, it kind of annoys me to be honest mate. We're havin a long discussion here, and even when we're this deep into it, youre still speculating. LOOK at the fixtures. On the small few id be playing al habsi, arsenal at home in 12 weeks is the only team that youd really fear, or are more likely to ruin a clean sheet than 15 other teams in the league are against any keeper for 4 million.

you have to speculate to accumulate RBJ, only questioning your choice of the "best goalkeeping" combo thats all, I had a look at thats the conclusion I came to, Birmingham defence is better in my opinion than the Bolton defence, so I would therefore play Foster whenever I can, even where Krul has a home fixture against a top side, we are both arguing the same point really, I just wondered why you would put more faith in the usually unreliable Wigan over Newcastle, that is the nature of a discussion after all.

only cos i play them about 4 times over the whole rotation. Plus, read a very interesting tip last week in the racing post, 6/1 for birmingham for the drop- at first i was like-piss off, but, it was a really really interesting read

just had a look at McNulty's bit on goalkeeping and he has Newcastle and Birmingham as one of the better combo's but that was before Newcastle showed they can be just as dodgy at home as they are away, time will tell!

ah you see the problem is I do not have either of them goalkeepers! silly me 🙁 I think I will get in Krul.. just to be sorted for the next few weeks at least anyway. kicking myself that I went for the Foster, Carson combo without looking at how they rotate!

That midfield is spot on - I'm gonna try and get mine similar to that if funds permit.

The whole Malouda rested debate could apply to most players in the league to be honest. All it takes is one person on here to say "Will Malouda be rested like he was at West Ham?" and suddenly it sparks a mass exodus of "Malouda Out" transfers. He will still play the bulk of the games and the rest of your midfield can take the brunt of it even if Carlo decides he needs to have a breather for a game.

      IMO of course.

Thinking of doing Malouda to Fabs. I know people on here seem to think Fabs is the beating heart of any successful fantasy team, but I'm scared of ditching Malouda. Fabs surely is a points machine? But what if Malouda bags a hat full of goals and I miss out??? Aaaargh, I have been thinking about this for nearly two weeks now (curse the international break) and my poor brain is melting. Help.

Yeah, I'm thinking I want Fabs, Malouda, Nani, Drogs and Tevez. But can't do this without making the rest of my team rubbish. Of them all I think it is Malouda that i will do without. My thinking is I can get Arteta in for him for less money, and this will give me best captain options in future (Malouda would never be captain while the drog is in my team).

Right I was thinking of going:

    Malouda > Arteta
    Thomas > VDV
    Konch > Figeuroa

this week. However, I've looked at the stats, and I think:

    Malouda > VDV
    Thomas > Arteta
    Konch > Figeuroa

sounds sooo much better psychologically speaking!

Malouda socre goals and VDV score goals, but is a lot cheaper, allowing me to do a very obvious upgrade on Thomas. Grooovy.

I too am going back and forward on Malouda OUT and Malouda IN, it really is a make or break decision with the cost of getting him back in and his ownership, I agree though that people are overlooking the fact that the player you bring in, whether it be Arteta or VDV may score the same if not more points per million that Malouda will, and the cash can be used elsewhere

Ya im looking at Malouda keeping or selling too but wont make that decison until week 10 where Il either keep him or sell for Arteta.

I wouldnt like to make that decison now as for me we dont know if Everton are consistent again and same can be said for VDV , wil he produce during his tough run?

        Wait and see for me.

Here's the final stats table I've pu together:

          Mal / Arteta / VDV
          Touches: 79.5 / 86.6 / 68.8
          Key Passes: 3.2 / 2.0 / 1.5
          Through Balls 0.7 / 0.3 / 1.3
          Pass Opp Half 34.3 / 39.4 / 24.3
          Succ. Crosses 0.5 / 1.3 / 1.0
          Goals: 1.0 / 0.1 / 0.8
          Shots 3.2 / 1.1 / 4.3
          On Target: 1.3 / 0.6 / 2.3
          Set Piece Shot 0.2 / 1.1 / 1.3
          Succ. Corners 1.0 / 1.4 / 0.3

Malouda has got all his points through goals, but VDV's shooting stats are phenominal, plus he's on free kicks, plus he'll hog the boni. They both have some rough fixtures, but I don't see why VDV won't at least match Mal for points.

OShea seems to have the right back spot then Ferd, Vidic, Evra. Always chance of rotation/resting though, especially for Ferd as just back from injury and OShea as hes just played 2 games in a week for Ireland. They also have Champs league on Tue/Wed.

There are many other options for <6m. Kolorov should be a good bet if/when he starts playing regularly. Other usual suspects are elmohamady, salcido, jagielka, samba
