When compared to the vast majority of sides that have previously been promoted from the Championship, Blackpool’s impact in the Premier League has been a real breath of fresh air. Pre-season, most talk was centred around Ian Holloway and how -somewhat patronisingly- the Seasiders’ boss would bring a “bit of character” to the top division, but the first seven gameweeks have seen his team’s on-pitch performances grab the headlines instead.

Central to the team’s success has been the club’s playmaker Charlie Adam. The ex-Rangers man currently sits on 38pts in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, the third-highest scoring midfielder in the game so far, behind only Florent Malouda and Nani. A breakdown of his points shows Adam has scored 2 goals, made 2 assists and has 9 Bonus Points, being awarded the maximum 3 on 3 occasions, including the club’s last game, the 2-1 win at Anfield, where he bagged a penalty. In terms of midfielders, only Mikel Arteta can match this as a Bonus “darling”.

A look at our OPTA Stats, showing Adam’s involvement in the games, may explain why this is. Only three players have saw more of the ball; his 616 “Touches” is more than the likes of Arteta and Steven Gerrard and just five behind Paul Scholes. His 15 “Shots at Goal” have him in the top ten midfielders, and defensive-wise, he’s also in the top ten midfielders for “Duels”, “Aerial Duels”, “Loose Ball Recoveries” and “Blocks”. Added to the fact he’s on set-pieces and penalties, and it becomes clearer to see exactly not just how influential Adam is for Blackpool, but, perhaps, how eye-catching he may be to the Bonus Point judges.

With most people expecting Graham Dorrans to be the main Fantasy option from the promoted sides, thanks to Holloway’s attacking ethos, Adam has subsequently out-shone his fellow Scot by some margin already. Blackpool’s approach to games has meant that, despite playing five of their first seven matches away from home, they tend to get amongst the goals, with only Chelsea and Arsenal keeping clean sheets against Holloway’s men so far.

Adam comes in at just £5.2m and is owned by 9% of FPL managers so far. Such a low price means that, in terms of “Value“, he is joint-top, with West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie. Blackpool now have four of their seven fixtures at home (MCY, bir, WBA, EVE, avl, whm, WOL) though judging by their displays so far, it almost seems an irrelevance as to what ground their fixtures are played on. The one constant that does flow through them, however, is the Fantasy potential of Charlie Adam.

      Bad luck with injuries.

      Upgrade Gerrard to Fabregas.
Get rid of Stam for one of Coleman, Alcaraz, Givet, or Enrique. I'd suggest Givet.

That's it really. Ben Arfa can sit on your bench, because I presume you'd like to play your current front 7, and anyone else you bring in will sit on the bench, so you might as well wait.

Next week, be planning Ben Arfa > Etherington/Adam

The defense isn't that bad. Konchesky should play, and Alex will be back next game. Patience, and avoid knee jerking.

I'd do Alex to O Shea or Man City defender, and play that person plus Stam and Elmo...use a 2nd transfer if you want/need to upgrade Ben Arfa to someone playing...for 4 points you'll solve a temporary and a long term problem...wait til next week to do Gerrard to Fab (you could also upgrade Yaya to Nani if you have the money and Yaya is out)

Its a risk, but I do need some sort of united coverage for the next few weeks! Thinking taking an 8 point hit fabs nani kolorov for stam malouda gerrard and saving my transfer for the next week. ill then have

              Alex Konchesky Kolorov Mummy Jara

Fabregas Nani Bale Yaya Ben Arfa

              Tevez Drog Carroll

1.4 in the bank to sort out ben arfa in two weeks.

    Carson/Foster
    Konchesky/Alex/Young/Stam/Alcaraz

gerrard to Fabregas looks to be the obvious move alongside maybe swapping Alex out for a good cheap one - Elmo perhaps...does that leave you room to upgrade Bale to VDV?
Whatever you do Gerrard to Fabregas should be involved somewhere.

Alex has no chance of dropping... That figure of around 8,000 for the necessary NTO is absolutely miles off...

He needs at least 54k to fall...

I have a fairly strong team but I really want Fabs in for Gw 10.

    My plan is this.

    No transfer this week.

Etherington to Adam for Gw 9

And Berba to Odemwingie and Bale to Fabs for Gw 10.

What do you think of this?

Would you do it some other way?

    Ps. My team is linked!

not bad. odemwingie has gotten himself injured though, so keep an eye on that. i would get another goalie though... someone pointed out above how good Brum and Nufc rotate the next bunch of fixtures. taking a 4 pt hit for that might be worth it quite quick.

I've decided not to play my WC yet....what are peoples opinions on my planned line up?

    Robinson (Carson)

    Cole, Ridgewell, Vidic (Cahill, Sagna(I))

    Adam, Etherington, Malouda, Nolan (Cole)

    Berbatov(c), Rodallega, Tevez

Let me know! I'm sure you will

Who is Cole? Joe Cole? If it is then I'd play him ahead of Etherington... Stoke are pretty poor on the road..

Do you have any money in the bank? Team seems a little thin in midfield, although I guess that's what happens when you've got so much money in defence...

Not having Fabregas or Nani could set you a fair bit back...

        Embarrasingly, yes its Joe.

I know the teams weaknesses but I'll correct it next GW by flogging Vidic and Joe Cole..

Reckon that team will score ok though?

Should do... Plenty of decent-ish fixtures for your players....

Provided Berbatov roughly matchs Nani/Fabregas then you should be fine.

Question for you fellow Dexter fan (Julia Stiles?!) and Etherington owner:

If you were playing your wildcard this week, would you be swapping Ethers for N'Zogbia, at least for the next four games?

I know I should play nice, but I don't like your team at all.

Maybe it's because I don't see much value in defense, but even so, you're still missing some players that in my opinion are absolute must-haves.

      Elmohamady, Nani, Drogba.

      Where are they?

I can understand you'd like a good defense, but the rest of your team is pretty badly compromised by it. To be honest, the most I'd go for in defense would be:

      Cole, Kolarov, Samba, Elmohamady, Dann.

I just don't see much value in defense, especially with so many goals flying about. Clean sheets are hard to come by, and bonus points usually go to attackers. I would WC, but I guess that's just me.

The three players I mentioned above. Get them.

Would trying to get a midfield of the following be a bit excessive?
    Nani, Malouda, Fabregas, VDV, Arteta
I'll have a front 3 of Drogba , Carrol and Varney
And an average defense but including OShea and Bosingwa.
    What do you think?

Which of the following seems the better option?

    A) Malouda, Adam, Oddthingy (no hit)
    B) Fabs, Etuhu, Berbatov (4 point hit next week)

    Rest of team is/would be:
    Hart/Mignolet
    Dann, Faye, Williamson, Coleman, Kelly
    Fibreglass, Ferguson
    Tevez, Drogba

I've convinced myself of both a thousand times! Any helps greatly appreciated.

With the Bale + Berb I have Etuhu rather than Adam which is swinging me in favour of A at the moment, although it will mean a 4 point hit or waiting until GW 10 to et Fabs for Bale and risk missin out because of likely rises.

not really, his starting position is jeopardized by the fact that he's coming off of int'l duty and that United are at home to west brom., giving the chance for either rafael, neville, or even brown to gain some mins. and let o'shea back in the mix for champs. league. i'm still starting him, but having my bench carefully placed ready to fill in.

      I'm captaining Fabregas.

Brum just lost their home record against Everton. They look a bit faded up front, not having scored since getting one against West Brom, and in my opinion, they're sitting there waiting for a tonking.

Arsenal have been threatening to gut a team for a while, and their decent performance against Chelsea (dominating possession) will be much easier to convert into goals against Brum. Not least because of the return of their best player and captain, Fabs. Arsenal are a different side with him playing. I reckon they'll walk it 3 or 4 nil, and that means 3BPs for Fabregas.

Much safer than captaining Nani imo. People are forgetting how hot and cold he is sometimes. It's going to take a few more consistent performances before I trust him with captaincy. West Brom are also in better form.

Enough reasoning? The only caveat is Fabregas' injury. I think it's worth a risk though, and I paid all that money for him, he better start delivering!
