Our Watchlist rankings, summing up our thoughts on mid-term player recommendations, have now been updated and can be found in your sidebar on the frontpage.

Headlines this week include climbs for Chelsea’s defensive assets with both Petr Cech in the Keepers and Ashley Cole in Defenders, climbing to the top ahead of a fixture schedule that should bring them continued returns (WOL bla liv FUL SUN bir). Not surprisingly both Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba continue to enjoy high placings off the back of that run of opponents. Frank Lampard is yet to feature; look out for his inclusion next week if he makes his return against Wolves this weekend.

West Brom’s key assets also enjoy a boost. As Andy pointed out in this week’s “Frisking the Fixtures”, the Baggies have an incredibly kind run of opponents to come, with just City at home and Everton away providing stern tests over the next eight gameweeks. The trend will surely lean towards their attacking players and Chris Brunt, James Morrison and Peter Odemwingie all enjoy high placings as a result. There could be some cheap profit to be made in defensive areas though, with both Scott Carson in the Keepers and Gonzalo Jara in Defenders, enjoying climbs this week. For me, Fantasy Manager’s should certainly be turning to West Brom for a budget signing – the Baggies have fixtures and form on their side.

It’s no surprise to see Seamus Coleman and Elmohamady riding high in the Defender rankings. At a time when we’re scratching around for clean sheets, these two offer strong attacking potential and can be selected regardless of opposition. Both are come relatively cheap and comfortably sit amongst our top five Defender recommendations as a result.

Leighton Baines suffers a drop following the emergence of Coleman, although two Everton defenders doesn’t seem like a wayward tactic right now, given that they’ve kept three clean sheets on the bounce and have a decent run to follow the trip to Spurs this weekend (tot STK blp BOL). Like Coleman, Baines offers good potential at the sharp end.

Keep an eye on Newcastle’s Danny Simpson in next week’s Watchlist. He enters with a modest ranking this week but if he starts as expected at Upton Park, he will offer exceptional value as a 3.9 Defender in the Gameweek’s that follow. Expect him to climb about team-mate Jose Enrique in our thinking next week.

The arrival of Cesc Fabregas freshens up the Midfielder rankings. He comes straight in at number two, hampered slightly by a first fixture against City which has Nani hold on to the top spot. Midfield riches are plentiful right now and the Tottenham pairing of Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart, along with Malouda, complete our top five. Blackpool’s Charlie Adam and West Brom’s Chris Brunt appear to offer the best cheap alternatives for those nervous about Tottenham’s schedule. Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia is also a climber off the back of his brace at Newcastle last weekend. His fixtures could be better but we’d expect to see something for him against Bolton this weekend. Watch for Steven Gerrard too; he’s been a quietly efficient scorer and I’m expecting a strong Gameweek from him in the next six, even with Liverpool’s current malaise.

Up front, Carlos Tevez makes the climb over Dimitar Berbatov in second behind Drogba. West Brom’s Odemwingie is still fighting it out with Andy Carroll for fourth spot – only concern over the West Brom man’s fitness keeps him in fifth – expect a further climb once we know he is available for the weekend date with Fulham. Elsewhere there’s little movement with Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh unlucky to suffer a drop as a result following his biggest points haul of the season against Birmingham. However, the availability of Nicklas Bendtner and the expected return to fitness of Robin Van Persie in November is now casting doubt over his pitch time.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Tot has to play against Manu. Also keep in mind that Chelsea has a good run of easy fixtures ahead where they had the habit of "score at will"

Charlie Adam's getting a lot of love here, but I'm not convinced. Blackpool are yet to win at home this season, and seem to turn it on against the bigger teams. This all points to unpredictability for me, which is just as important in fantasy football as actual point scoring is. If you can't predict when a player's going to score well, there's no point in having him in your team.

Very well said regarding predictability, though not sure I agree when talking about Adam, he's done OK against all opposition.

I'm actually really tempted by Varney, he's doing something every match, has almost as many ppg, is dirt cheap and has had an average position in advance of everyone in the last 2 matches.

I take it you struggled playing OOP last night JJ? You're definately better suited to the left side of the bench.

That's a bit much, he's a Blackpool player. They may turn out performances from time to time, but they're going to takes some batterings as well.

I also worry about Blackpool after seeing how Burnley and Hull started their league campaigns so well, then dropped off sharply when the honeymoon period was over. I much perfer Blackpool to either of those two, so I hope they keep it up, but I doubt they will.

Hey guys i have already done ehtherington > nzogbia this week. I have 4 transfers to do in the next 4 weeks. Do you recon this is the correct order to do them in?

for gw10: malouda > nani (man utd home game, nani essential nd rising in price)
for gw11: albrighton > adam (albrighton might lose place and adam has good run of games)
for gw12: faye > bosingwa (should give bosingwa enuf time to establish himself as no.1 RB)
for gw13: konchesky > kolarov (kolarov still injured, needs match fitness)

    Opinions?

Yeah, too many injuries/form changes etc to judge a month in advance.

For what it's worth the first 2 transfers are very worthwhile. As for the Bosingwa transfers, if you feel like gambling, get him in this week-odds on for a CS, and I can see Chelsea putting a lot past wolves, an assist or 2 could be on the table.

GW 5, United were dismal last night, but at least Nani is looking like he will step into the breach for the time being, regardless of opposition it was nice to be able to rest all the big guns and still get a result, regardless of the score.

I agree, Rangers are a force to be reckoned with in the UCL this year but United will hope to have the Group all but wrapped up before that and a draw at Ibrox wouldn't be fatal to that.

A bit of a mindscratching for my team... Bale>Arteta next week is a straightforward transfer. However, if i want to keep bale and do Ethers>Arteta instead, then i need a -4point hit. Is it worth the -4 to keep bale? His fixtures arent appealing in GW10 and 11 (and somebody hopefully would be injured by GW12 so I could get bale back in then instead)

Pretty straightforward query but Albrighton AWAY to Sunderland or Adam AWAY to Birmingham? I have Adam in there at the moment, but Albrighton fitness news just made me think about it again (although I know Ireland may have taken his spot)

dont forget, sunderland didnt let manutd score and they are strong at home anyways. birmingham are strong at home too BUT blackpool like scoring away from home. so adam it is for me.

agbon unfit shud push young into the pocket and mean albrighton regains his spot

id go adam tho, as he is central to all blackpool do, while albrighton could let the game pass him by

    Stat Attack (all per start):

    Brunt /Adam /Morrison /Barton

    Touches: /65.0 /92.8 /60.7 /81.9
    Key Passes: /1.6 /1.4 /1.3 /1.8
    Through Balls /0.5 /1.5 /0.3 /0.6
    Opp Half: /20.1 /26.1 /19.5 /29.4
    Crosses: /0.9 /0.5 /0.7 /1.0
    Assists /0.6 /0.4 /0.2 /0.1
    Goals: /0.1 /0.3 /0.2 /0.1
    Shots /1.8 /2.4 /2.0 /1.0
    On Target: /0.8 /0.9 /0.3 /0.5
    Set Piece Shot /0.3 /0.6 /0.0 /0.5
    Succ. Corners /0.6 /0.5 /0.2 /1.1

Morrison and Brunt seems to compare pretty well, with Brunt just shading it slightly in most regards. Adam and Barton both have far more touches, but with Adam shading the stats, especially on shots, where Barton is slightly lacking.

Haven't made any moves yet with this lot, I have 0.5 to spend:

    Foster -- Gilks
    ACole -- Vidic -- Elmohammady -- Foley -- Gohouri
Gerrard -- Nani -- Van der Vaart -- Adam -- Davies
    Drogba -- Chamakh -- Carrol

Thinking of leaving it as is and making a move for the Gas man next wee. Yes??

Oh, FabreGAS, took me a while to figure out who Gas man was, thought it might be Carrol with what happened to his car.

You have a peach of a team this week, no need to change anything, I would play:

      Foster
      A.Cole/Vidic/Elmo
      Gerrard/Nani/VDV/Adam
      Drogba/Chamakh/Carrol

      Team picks itself really!

on Foley actually, Wolves have such miserable fixtures and the absence of a Newcastle defenders, I would do Foley OUT Simpson IN, soon.

Cheers Johnny, I should have enough to do Foley/Gerrard --> Simpsons/Fabregas with no points hit, looking like the play barring the inevitable slew of injuries

      i like it

weve already discussed the bosingwa transfer above, i think its worth it for wovles, and coleman as an oop. wHY NOT

getting fabs and arteta in , certainly makes up for the loss of malouda

this as his last week is no bad thing!

    Hey guys! I'm preety new here, joined today but have been a regular on the site from the start of the season. I have made some great choices by reading what a lot of you have to say but this time I feel like I need more direct advice! My team is as follows;

    Carson, Jaaskelainen
    Vidic, ACole, Richards, Hangland, Baptiste
    Nani, Malouda, Bale, Adam, Barton
    Drogba, Berbatov, Odemwingie

I have 0.0 in the bank but 1 free transfer this week. I was just wondering what you would do to my team? I am heading towards losing Richards to free up some funds but woul really appriciate your help on this one! I am keen (as we all seen to be) to get Fabs in next week as well.

    Cheers guys, Jack.

Initial thoughts, are a lot of money tied up in your defence.

Richards, Vidic & Hangeland - better options exist. Like Coleman, Elmo, Salcido, Boateng, even Konchesky (long term).

Freeing up a little £ there would allow you to upgrade in the middle of the park.
