While off-field matters in Darras Hall, Northumberland last week may have made him one of the most (in)famous landlords in Britain, Kevin Nolan has subsequently shown he is fully focused on his football right now with a goal and two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points in last weekend’s 2-1 win at West Ham.

With four of their next six games at St James’ Park (SUN, ars, BLA, FUL, bol, CHE), Newcastle have a decent run of fixtures on the horizon, and although Chris Hughton’s side haven’t won in their last three home games, Nolan has scored three goals in four matches in front of the Geordie fans this season.

Nolan has managed 90 minutes in only two of Newcastle’s last four league games but, significantly, has found the net both times; aside from the West Ham match, his other goal was a penalty against Stoke. Interestingly, with the likes of Joey Barton on the pitch at the time, this suggests Nolan is the club’s number one penalty taker. With the first North East derby against Sunderland in two years up next this weekend at St James‘ Park, the possibility of a spot-kick might not be that too far away in the highly-charged atmosphere. With Fantasy investment in their squad inevitable with the aforementioned fixtures, this could be a factor worth considering.

Hughton’s favoured 4-4-1-1 formation allows Nolan the freedom to float behind Andy Carroll last season, and the system certainly favoured him, with 17 goals in the Championship. Even with a change in shape last weekend, as Newcastle playing 4-4-2 to accomodate Shola Ameobi alongside Carroll, Nolan still found the net. As the following two heat maps (the first in a 4-4-1-1 at home to Stoke, the second in last week’s game at West Ham) Nolan’s ability to get into forward positions doesn’t seem to be affected if Hughton chooses to play him in a centre midfield pairing.

So far this season, he has registered 9 shots on target, more than players such as Nicolas Anelka, Marouanne Chamakh and Darren Bent, and with 4 goals in the 8 games he‘s played in, the Newcastle captain is well on his way to topping his highest total of nine Premier League goals at previous club Bolton.

Nolan is currently part of 9.5% of FPL squads, less than the likes of Gareth Bale, Paul Scholes and Matthew Etherington, although with 40 pts, he has scored more than the trio, despite less game time. His last three games have seen Nolan return an average of 6 points per game, an indication that, in spite of his team’s recent inconsistencies, Nolan is still producing the goods.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

It's getting to the usual stage of the season where Cesc is the safest investment..Chamakh and Bendtner will compete for the lone striker role but the options to play alongside them are just ridiculous now. Nasri,Theo,Arshavin etc. Bendtner could even play at one side of the attacking 3 with Chamakh up top. Great for Arsenal but bad for fantasy football second guessing team sheets. Nasri has played well in centre midfield before and could resume this role now given the amount of attacking options coming back to full-fitness. But on Saturday, we'll probably see Cesc,Nasri,Arshavin and Chamakh as the attacking line-up

Nasri, Chamakh and Arshavin all rested, while Walcott started is a pretty clear indication that we'll see Theo on the bench this weekend.

Definitely Nasri if you want to be safe.

He's got great form, is playing in a forward position, and is hogging bonus points.

Nasri wasn't even on the bench tonight, so he will surely be starting at the weekend. Theo on the other hand played 90 minutes and I'm not sure Arsene would start him at the weekend as well given that he is just coming back from injury.

fair enough about the football side, Atilla. He's a good player prone to the odd bad challenge - like many others - but the reason most people hate him is for all the other shit he's done. and rightly so to be fair. the list is long and age is no excuse. assaults left right and centre, one on a 15 yr old boy, one knocking a team-mate unconscious in training. it's beyond insane it's more like psychotic

He's done some bad things but I'm not comfortable writing him off as a scumbag. It's things like running the length of the pitch and celebrating in front of your former team, or refusing to play for your current one, that really get to me. Barton's more of an off-the-pitch miscreant, which I can accept more readily.

He deserves a chance - if he reoffends with some of his stupid past actions then yes hang him high - until then give him a chance.

So that would take out a helluva lot of players. And leave us with Robin Van Persie hobbling around, great. Look I'm not saying that he didn't deserve a yellow card - he did - the punishment fit the crime. What my point above is about is looking at the way people react when Barton does a bad tackle, then look at the way they react with other players who do not carry his reputation. Do you really think Karl Henry would have got away with his behaviour if he did that all game to Fabregas? Do you think pundits would have laughed at it? No. They wouldnt.

Spot on. He's older and maturer now, he'll behave himself more. Bearing in mind most people think he's scum because of off-the-pitch behaviour, he's comparable to Lee Bowyer.

Cheers, perspective needed for some. I'm a Fabregas owner and the last thing I'd want is for him to get crocked - but this is real life here, the lad doesn't deserve the abuse he's getting this season. If he did I'd cast the first stone.

Madness indeed Soup, I think its just the lazy newspaper reporting - with Newcastle they only think of two things:
      1) Manager merry-go-round
      2) Shite defence
Both are untrue this season (and last). As far as I'm aware the vast, vast majority of fans have full faith in him as the right man for the job.

Had the same thoughts. Walcott is much less assured of starts, but he does usually get the games against 'easier' opponents.

Personally I'd probably edge towards Nasri partly due to his greater bonus point attraction.
