Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch
Share:

If ever a game summed up a player, surely Sunday’s match between West Brom and Manchester City showed us all the two sides of City’s prodigious striker Mario Balotelli. The Italian rewarded the faith of his manager with two goals in six minutes in only his second start in the Premier League. Unfortunately for Mancini, Balotelli made the transformation from hero to villain with a straight red card in the second-half for a reckless kick during a tangle with Youssouf Mulumbu.

Todays dismissal highlighted Balotelli’s addiction to controversy and for Fantasy Football Managers was the equivalent of an espresso at the end of a drunken meal. Certainly it would have made many managers wary of bringing in a striker who, whilst has obvious talent, still has a hot headed fieriness. Temperamental players are the last thing the majority of Fantasy Football managers want or need.

This game and the display of Balotelli served to ease the pressure which had been building on manager Roberto Mancini who has been looking to stop a run in which had City lost their last three games. Mancini was clearly happy with his strikers performance;

“For me, Mario Balotelli played very well. The referee should not have given a red card, absolutely not. It’s possible we may appeal.”

That will be promising to the ears of those who are looking to bring in the fiery Italian. However it is worth remembering that frivolous appeals can often lead to extended cautions so City, and FPL’s finest will need to tread carefully.

The inclusion of the Italian saw James Milner dropped to the bench and increased the rotation risk around the Manchester City team. From an attacking perspective it is nearly impossible to determine the line-up for the Citizens and going forward investment in Manchester City midfielders and attackers, bar talismanic captain Carlos Tevez, is becoming more of a minefield. Caution and patience is recommended.

Unfortunately this is not something that 1,282 managers displayed this afternoon. That is the amount (and rising at time of writing) who knee-jerkingly transferred in Balotelli today. A large number of those did so during the game. If ever there was a test case in why you shouldn’t do your transfers early then this was it.

-Elsewhere Liverpool overcame champions Chelsea with a first half performance from Fernando Torres which reminded us all why he is so revered throughout the world. Two goals, the second a sublime curling effort, proved too much for Chelsea at Anfield and served to open up the title race. It also exposed how Chelsea struggle without their big hitters Lampard, Essien and Drogba. It was no coincidence that their performance improved in the second half with the introduction of the Ivorian, but for those who have the big striker in their team, a single point was a disappointing return.

Overall this week served up its fair share of headaches, underperformance of key players and low scores across the board. Thankfully we only have two days before the next Gameweek comes along.

Hi guys. Where you should I invest?

    Options,
Jerome - odem and keep two cheap strikers on rotation. Then invest in rest of team. Bale - Vdv / maybe vidic ect

    Or,
Should I invest more into Attack. Maybe Anela or RVP. If I remove jerome jhabejuat over 10 mil....

    Oppinion welcome!

To add to Wenger's woes, it turned out Samir Nasri's substitution wasn't a tactical one:

"Samir has a calf problem we will assess tomorrow, we think it's small."

id maybe agree he was a top 5 defender in 2005/2006 but chelsea have always conceeded plenty of goals. i think terry has living nightmares when he sees torres or tevez up against him. ye cant deny he's overrated...same with rooney in the media,he's great one minute when alls going well but deep down ye all know he has the 1st touch of a monkey

Just don't rate him, can be very hit and miss. Not really, but I think they'll be quite a few injuries midweek and the fixtures of Dempsey, Dembele, N'Zog and Chelsea's get tough so will want to make quite a few transfers.

easily, although having dempsey and dembele is a lot going into their bad run of fixtures. I feel dembele is the more important player but then if deuce is out of position then maybe he's more worthwhile to keep

    Drogba(C), Carroll, Elmander

    (Elmo,Dann,Nani)

I guess i wonder if i should be playing simpson over elmo and dann. im sure one of the two will sub on, vdv or someone surely wont go, so theres really only one i need to know for sure to bench from defence.

fair enough, i feel its due to his illness though and he could pick up a bit of form in the next two. Would be nice if a few of the leagues other stars became realistic alternatives for the big money slots... i.e. rvp, torres, gerrard, rooney, lampard

Thing is, if you look at the fixtures you won't captain Drogba until gameweek 20 after these two next weeks and in that period Tevez and Torres have very nice fixtures between them so it would seem stupid to have someone valued at 13.0 that you don't captain for 7 weeks. People are more scared about the value they'll lose on him but who cares?! Points over money every day.

I think he's been playing fine, not on fire by any means but decent. When he came on today he was Chelsea's biggest threat by a mile, even with his illness.
I don't get why people are so stubbornly hanging onto Malouda though.

hes a defender which is evertons stength

hes giving you some offense as well

cahill is solid but his value is what it is, coleman is worth way more than his cost. go get coleman.

    RMT:

    Krul (Foster)

    A. Cole, Elmohamady, Coleman (Alcaraz, Jara)

Fabregas, Arteta, Van Der Vaart, Nasri (Emerton)

    Drogba, Tevez, Carroll

    Plans:

VdV > Bale (If VdV is unfit for Tuesday)

Alcaraz > Simpson (Not priority, but I want Simpson, and the saved funds mean I can get Nani back easily)

Yeah I'm watching it, but since he lasted a few minutes in the second half, I don't think it's serious and reckon he'll play against Wolves.

I don't want to double on Arsenal after the last two horror gameweeks, but I don't have much choice unless I do Nasri > Bale, but I actually really like Nasri this season in terms of fantasy potential.

First two gameweeks I get him in he scores 7 and 14. He's also on set pieces and is playing in a more forward role.

Arsenal aren't going to be so pants every week.

But, I can't shake this feeling that Bale is going to score in double figures ton Tuesday. I want him in somehow.

Most definitely a different team to the normal ones around.

I think you need to beef up your midfield.
Never mind your defense yet unless you need more funds.
Etherington needs to be upgraded to a good mid price player like Bale or Van Der Vaart.

Even with the miserable 29 and even more red arrows (I'm now starting to get used to it) I've decided to go down the hits path. Radical surgery needed on my team. Someone please RMT

ur team doesn't look good for the next 2 gw's...i think u really need to take atleast 8 point hit to make ur team a competitive one.......

yeh but i think hits have killed people this season. It's important you have a plan to get nani in when he's back... doubling up on blackpool players without one being adam is dangerous. Dempsey has terrible fixtures but he's not worth taking a hit on while he's oop imo. Bramble, crainey and jones don't look like they're going to offer a lot any time soon

      I had this in mind

      Dempsey > Nolan
      Nasri > Cahill
      Bramble > Coleman
      Varney > Odemwingie

      for an 8 point hit?

Should I give Berba one more week?

yes u should give berba one more week coz he is the main man for utd n they have 2 easy home games in the next 4.......but i don't agree with odem in for varney it could be wasteless.....i think u should bring in piquonne for varney.....piq has west brom n b'pool at home n both of these games likely to be a goal fest.....

berba to tevez all the way for me... dont know if an 8 point hit is worth it, e.g. say nasri gets 2 next game (wol) then cahill (BOL) would have to get 6 or more to justify it...

Adam is easily ahead of Dann this week. Up to you if you play him in front of Nasri. 35 from 6 away games & 6 out of 11 times scoring 5+ show he is quite valuable.

adam has villa away who r one of the best teams defensively apart from mauling they got against new...they don't concede many goals specially at home....

Very true, they have only conceded 1 all season at home. If it finished 0-0, Adam would still be favourite to get the 3 bps & score 6 points. Nasri is a different case. I have him but could easily sell before GW12.
