Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch
Share:

If ever a game summed up a player, surely Sunday’s match between West Brom and Manchester City showed us all the two sides of City’s prodigious striker Mario Balotelli. The Italian rewarded the faith of his manager with two goals in six minutes in only his second start in the Premier League. Unfortunately for Mancini, Balotelli made the transformation from hero to villain with a straight red card in the second-half for a reckless kick during a tangle with Youssouf Mulumbu.

Todays dismissal highlighted Balotelli’s addiction to controversy and for Fantasy Football Managers was the equivalent of an espresso at the end of a drunken meal. Certainly it would have made many managers wary of bringing in a striker who, whilst has obvious talent, still has a hot headed fieriness. Temperamental players are the last thing the majority of Fantasy Football managers want or need.

This game and the display of Balotelli served to ease the pressure which had been building on manager Roberto Mancini who has been looking to stop a run in which had City lost their last three games. Mancini was clearly happy with his strikers performance;

“For me, Mario Balotelli played very well. The referee should not have given a red card, absolutely not. It’s possible we may appeal.”

That will be promising to the ears of those who are looking to bring in the fiery Italian. However it is worth remembering that frivolous appeals can often lead to extended cautions so City, and FPL’s finest will need to tread carefully.

The inclusion of the Italian saw James Milner dropped to the bench and increased the rotation risk around the Manchester City team. From an attacking perspective it is nearly impossible to determine the line-up for the Citizens and going forward investment in Manchester City midfielders and attackers, bar talismanic captain Carlos Tevez, is becoming more of a minefield. Caution and patience is recommended.

Unfortunately this is not something that 1,282 managers displayed this afternoon. That is the amount (and rising at time of writing) who knee-jerkingly transferred in Balotelli today. A large number of those did so during the game. If ever there was a test case in why you shouldn’t do your transfers early then this was it.

-Elsewhere Liverpool overcame champions Chelsea with a first half performance from Fernando Torres which reminded us all why he is so revered throughout the world. Two goals, the second a sublime curling effort, proved too much for Chelsea at Anfield and served to open up the title race. It also exposed how Chelsea struggle without their big hitters Lampard, Essien and Drogba. It was no coincidence that their performance improved in the second half with the introduction of the Ivorian, but for those who have the big striker in their team, a single point was a disappointing return.

Overall this week served up its fair share of headaches, underperformance of key players and low scores across the board. Thankfully we only have two days before the next Gameweek comes along.

    Its like Torres wasnt worth having , but now he has hit the net his confidence will be up , so should be good to go.

    In hindsight should not of got fabs until he showed more , but confident he improving slowly

        My only problem with signing Alex is that although he looks good for the next two games, the following 6 are all tough and could possibly result in very few clean sheets.

        I'm actually edging towards A because Green's fixtures seem to rotate very nicely with my other keeper, Robinson.

            My mood is fine.

            Already had to go with Berbatov -> Tevez to avoid Berb's price drop last night.

            And yeah, I think i'm going to go with the Green transfer. The reasoning being that they rarely seem to concede more than 1, Green really racks up the save points, and the fixtures are good.

              Now that I have you on the line - call me crazy, but I actually thought of buying Shawx(prior to his red card of course). his price came down nicely and he will score/keep CS sooner or later.

              What do you think of Etherington? Everyone is selling on here and I like his upcoming games. He has not score all year and with Jones back I have gut feeling he might rack up some points.

                Personally I would wait. He really has been nowhere near the same kind of form that he was in last season and has started sharing the set piece duties with Pennant and Tuncay.

                He'll no doubt grab the odd assist for Jones but I wouldn't say anywhere near the amount to be FF effective. Also, although people are championing our fixtures I really don't see us getting much out of November at all.

                You mentioned you were considering Shawcross - if I was forced to go with one of our defenders I would go with Danny Collins ahead of him. He is 0.3 cheaper and although his history doesn't seem to show it, he is always a signifcant goal threat from set pieces and has been unlucky not to score this season.

    What are peoples thoughts on Kenwyne Jones over the next 5 gw's? Seems he has been doing a lot recently but just no points.

      I'm currently holding two free transfers as i reluctantly didnt transfer last week, which turned out a good move as it would have been albrighton out for nzogbia..

      but no with these trades at my disposal im struggling to decide where to best use them..

      hernandez out? could be rotated and there are several other options around his price

      or something else? please help ha

        Ok totally hi-jacked my comment but oh well. I'd say Hernandex and Jara should go, but remember you don't have to use both transfer, you can let one roll over.

      fixtures look quite strong over the next 5 and he's constantly providing a threat in the air, with ethers etc. providing tasty crosses i'd back him to have a juicy return in the next 5.

      By the way im about to have tea thats why i included tasty and juicy ha

      I've been thinking about transferring him as well. He's definately worth keeping your eye on and has some decent fiztures coming up. Could be worth a punt.

        sounds ok. I'm thinking of going Berba>Tevez, or Berba>Carroll

    Given my squad would you do
    a) Nasri -> VDV
    b) Nasri -> Bale
    c) Nasri -> Cahill
    d) P Jones -> Coleman
    e) Hernandez -> someone

    Thanks!

      Difficult that one, I'd say d)

      Looks to offload Nasri depending on whos fit, VDV if he is.

      I'd go with option d.

      Or maybe wait 1 gameweek and get 2 free transfers to have more flexibility.

        i'll go for c..

        vdv still flagged as injured and rotation risk. bale is playing out of position and seems only on fire in champs league which played in a lower tempo then PL

          pretty sure bale is gonna play soon and did hit the cross bar and provided a constant threat.

    Hello guys!

    I thought of a few transfers last night:

    Foster / Harper
    Jara / Toure / Konchesky / Elmo / Seamus
    Arteta / Nasri / Barton / Adam / Malouda
    Berba / Chamakh / Drogba

    Berba > Carroll
    Chamakh > Piquionne
    ? mid > Gerrard

    I am wondering whether these are good moves and which mid to swap?

      Nasri, jumps out from the mid, but only cos he is injured. All of those seems like good players to phase out, just prob not all in one week.

          I was thinking nasri. I dont want to ship barton or adam, other two are nailed on.
