Our Watchlist rankings have had a quick-fire update following last night’s action, which effectively saw the passing of another of Gameweek. No doubt tonight’s events will bring further changes, but those looking for a quick guide to some mid-term player recommendations can take a glance in their sidebar on the frontpage for our latest rankings.

The headlines include Rafael Van der Vaart’s climb to the top of the Midfielders, thanks in no small part to another goal last night, the injury doubt surrounding Nani (who will re-enter our rankings once we know more) and the continued dip in form for Chelsea’s Florent Malouda…

Improved fixtures for Wolves, Bolton, Liverpool and Man City from Gameweek 13 onwards, has their players all enjoying climbs up our tables across the positions. Marcus Hahnemann appears to offer strong value in the Goalkeeper category, while in front of him we’ve currently gone for Christophe Berra with doubt surrounding the continued starting roles of Richard Stearman and Kevin Foley. Matt Jarvis in Midfield and Kevin Doyle in the Forwards, also climb the table as a result of their promising run of opponents following tonight’s clash with Arsenal.

The Bolton pairing of Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander have climbed to their highest position of the season. Their run of form coincides with a decent run of fixtures which should add up to continued returns in the coming weeks. West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie is sandwiched in between; he’s expected to return against West Ham tonight and looks a strong proposition at 5.1 in the Fantasy Premier League game, with some obliging defences heading his way over the next six Gameweeks.

We will bring you news of any notable changes as a result of tonight’s matches and over the next 48 hours we will be looking closer at a couple of our most notable movers in the rankings.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

"Carlo Ancellotti has confirmed that Didier Drogba is now unavailable for tonight's clash with Fulham due to a worsening of his, now confirmed, case of Malaria. Current reports also suggest that Drogba is now under the supervision of senior tropical disease consultants at the Chelsea and Westminster private clinic in London."

I am also hurting from this... compounded by the stress of having transferred out Berbatov > Obinna (i desperately need a good break)... RE Arteta/Cahill - it was a 50/50 - could have gone either way... like u say, Arteta brace would heal all wounds!

I didn't have enough for Cahill and Bale last week so I did Arteta and Bale.

Bale was evidently just a pants move in hindsight, but Arteta usually scores well at home-the bonus judges seem to like him. Plus he's on pens so there's more reason to stick with him for now.

Van der Vaart is annoying me now though. Most people in my league have him and I've been holding off getting him in so far. But if he's going to keep scoring then I'm going to have to get him now.

Got two freebies this week so I'm going to have to take out Bale and one other for him.

    Least favourite gameweek?

Easy, last winter when the Arsenal/Bolton doublegameweek game was cancelled. I had Fab-Verm-Arsh -Cahill-Petrov.

    Best gameweek?

Easy, the rescheduled game when all of the above scored mega points. Even Cahill scored. Lovely times.

....other great game weeks were captaining Tevez when Man City's game was the only one taking place and that double game week when Rooney got about million pts as captain.

best gameweek was when everyone captained dbl gwk players (bullard milner) and i went with defoe, 5 goals and 50pts later i was 100pts clear in my minileague and in the top10 overall in the world, downhill from there tho

I did. It wasn't so bad because all my rivals did just as bad and I hadn't made any transfers. But the kicker was that O'Shea was my first sub with an amazing two points, so even if one of my main players didn't play, I was going to see any of the big points!

Best: 4 goal lamps haul reduced a previously unassailable 100pt lead in my mini-league.

Worst: The final day, with a 4pt gap to win the league for a small prize, I captained Lampard over Drogba IIRC (Rival captained Drogs) and ended up losing by about 20pts.
TBH though, I think that even then I would have still lost by 2pts. But it was so close I could taste it 🙁

I don't like to think of the bad ones but 2 favourites are the Defoe 5 goals one, didn't captain him but brought him in on WC and got about 130 that week.

How about this one if anyone remembers, City losing to Boro 7-1(?) second to last game of the season I think, I has Downing who I think got like 2 goals & 2 assists and my rival got about 16 points and I over took him and won our minileague!r

I think so, he was actually a bargain signing and a nice differential there for 5-6 gws. It wouldn't have being so bad only the game was live on Setanta and it made for extremely painful viewing seeing all those potential points going wayward. He was still smiling as he was hauled off near the end. Got to like the guy's confidence.

Unless you're in the top 100, whats the worst that can happen. There's a much greater buzz from a winning gamble, than playing safe and saving 4 points or so.

That's what I'm thinking. Although playing it safe should get you more consistency, my play last year involved a lot of transfers each week because I enjoy watching the text updates and seeing my players score.

So I say play it safe with the captaincy, but take some risks every now and again and gamble on good fixtures. Well, that's what I most enjoy, I mean.

We've all been in both camps - couldnt give you a definitive answer though. IMO holding back is the easier to deal with if you miss out... making a crazy decision that doesn't pay off feels like you dont know what you're doing during the fallout.

Maybe have 2 players you use for gambles, and keep the rest reliable. Then do 2 transfers every week, 1 gamble (from the 2 risky players) and 1 safe (from the steady team).

The way Chelsea were setting up with Lampard playing earlier in the season, it's more likely that Drogba and Malouda will see bigger points hauls, benefitting from the addition of Frank.

If Drogba gets injured, then BAM!! Frank is straight in my team.

kuyt is like agbonlahor, if you kept him all season you would get decent points as he always seems to end up with around 150 points +, but getting him for little periods at a time is infuriating as he'll go 2,2,2,2 you sell him then he goes 8,11,8 then back to 2,2,2

i switched from fabs to malouda yesterday, then articles come out about Wenger saying fabs is gonna step up, and drogba is "hungry for goals, goals, goals". Meh. I will be mildly upset if fabs finds form tonight, but happier overall that i can begin to trust giving him the armband. Cause once he's 100%, he's as safe a cpatain choice as there is IMO.

i think most have gone w/drogs simply because they're at home and are coming off a loss, so a potential thrashing could be imminent. arsenal are away to a wolves side who are playing well, but have been unlucky and i think it'll be a tough match- draw or 2-1 to the arsenal.

I've captained him this week. What's the worst that can happen?

Unless he gets sent off tonight he won't do any worse than Saturday.

Its unlikely that Arsenal will play 3 average defences and not put one of them to the sword. It really would not surprise me if Arsenal went on a rampage tonight.

I'm not sure Drogs is going to do much tonight either though and everyone will captain him so I wanted to try someone different.

The way my season's been going its not much of a risk anyway cos my scores have been shocking.

He was the most important though. He was the catalyst for the run of success we've had ever since.
There was a time you know when United weren't winning the league every year or two, and I sat through all those barren years never thinking we would ever win the league. When he came along everything changed.

Thats debatable Granville, you could argue that Pallister and Bruce were the most important players of that era as they gave the team the stability while show ponies like Cantona wrongly got all the headlines.

United started their run of success when those two came together.

You just say things for effect without knowing what you're talking about. I was there for all of it, home and away.
Pallister and Bruce were rocks for us but I went to games at OT where without Cantona the games would have ended 0-0. The was a run in one of the mid 90's seasons, where we won 4 or 5 games 1-0 and Cantona scored in every one. He really was a player.

I know you're a WUM, but I'll bite. Cantona was an inspirational figure who brought so much more to the club than playing ability. Belief, passion, inspired the Beckham / Scholes / Butt / Neville generation to more titles than Arsenal could dream of, including a Treble.

Ronaldo was a very good player for us, but not an icon in the manner of Cantona, Best, Charlton, even Keane.

5 years of hurt, never stopped you dreaming.

+1000 again. And yes, Ronny was undoubtedly a world talent who won everything, both individually and as a team at United, but he left w/so much still left in him so he won't be viewed the same. Don't get me wrong, we appreciated every min. that we had him, but for this reason he's not on the same iconic level. Becks is United through and through and never really wanted to leave and Cantona finished his short career there stating he'd never play for another team- something called loyalty, which goes a long way in my book.

Who said anything about inspiring the treble? He was inspirational to our revival as a dominant club, i.e. prem titles/fa cups and if he hadn't retired early would have undoubtedly been a key figure and likely captain of the treble winning squad.

He inspired the treble by giving, er, inspiration to that generation of 'kids' ((C) Alan Hansen). First in, last out of training, staying late after training to practice free-kicks with Beckham. Instilling belief in a club that hadn't won a title for 26 years when he arrived.

I know exactly when he retired, and exactly why.

I'm not saying Henry is sh*t, cos I'm not biased to a retarded degree like you. During the period 2001-2004 he was unstoppable. Personally, I prefer Bergkamp from your team.

Me as well, Bergkamp was pure class and was even a playmaker as a striker, which is a rare breed. And he's Dutch, so there's my bias. Henry playing next to Bergkamp only made him better.

Either it will use the temporary wildcard, or it will give you a choice of which to use. And there should be nothing to stop you using both wildcards during that period if you so wish, assuming that you haven't used the other one already and don't want to save it for later.

Istanbul derbies ain't all that. Usually the most entertaining spectacle is watching a punch up in the directors box.

Saw Barca beat Madrid 3-2 at Camp Nou back in (must have been) '87. Lineker got a hatrick, incredible occasion. Steve "Archigol" Archibald was playing and if memory serves so was Mark Hughes!

He just doesn't know (or care) all the rules that have been set to properly manage a team.

        4 high priced defenders
        No Drogs, Fab, Tevez, Torres
Doubling up all over the place

What he has done is create differential to the 'enth degree.
        And buried his opponents.

I know what you mean, but all those rules you mentioned are made up on here and followed far too tightly.

In my opinion none of those rules are important or really good, the only thing in his team that suggests he won't be able to keep it up is the inclusion of several defensive midfielders.

Good for him. He has thought out or chanced upon a plan that is working out very well so far, instead of following the herd. The rules you mention are followed by many in FFS, but they aren't the only way to play this game successfully. Besides, it would be a bit boring if everyone played the same way.

"chasing this guy who obviously knows nothing about FPL."

That statement speaks volumes in itself.

Surely they'll have a ticker at the bottom every so often updating us with the scores from the other games?

Oooh the MOTD challenge. Haven't done it since the first day of last season, when Ryan Shawcross and Stephen Hunt gave me cause to celebrate wildly in my living room!

Utd fans probably like him... After all, he did single handedly win them the league a few seasons back.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for sharing their best and worst gameweeks. Hope there are more highs than lows tonight for everyone, especially those like me who captained Drogba, got Tevez in and have Alex. I await the team news with anticipation.

I haven't been this excited for a GW for a while.. I think it's the novelty of the midweek and the anticipation building throughout the day. It can mean only one thing: a crushingly disappointing GW on the cards for me.

No time to get bored in a short gameweek like this one. Unlike those interminable 2-week international gameweeks.

Without pens, free kicks and probably only corners from 1 side doesn't seem worth 12.6 unless he hits a rich vein of form.

Will probably take him a few weeks but if he recovers last seasons form then there a few big game weeks in store for him
