Many owners have been trying to squeeze three or even four upper bracket midfielders into their lineups this season and as a result, there has been less demand for the mid and budget price options in this area of our squads. The likes of Kevin Nolan, Charlie Adam, Chris Brunt, Joey Barton, and most recently Charles N’Zogbia, have hogged the limelight when it comes to these selections to this point, and Scott Parker and Morton Gamst Pedersen have recently staked a claim as viable options at the sub-6.0 price point.

One name that is now due a seat around the cheap midfielders table is Wolves’ fleet-footed winger Matthew Jarvis. He has shown, with some consistency, form that has threatened even the most robust defence but has suffered from a fixture list that has lent him little assistance when it comes to boosting his Fantasy points tally. In addition, Wolves have hardly been the most prolific of scorers and, while Jarvis has been a reliable supplier of the crossed ball, Mick McCarthy’s side have lacked a free-scoring striker to convert opportunities.

Amidst continued talk fluttering about a possible England call-up and a potential January transfer, Jarvis is now preparing to embark on a run of fixtures that could see him emerge with his best individual totals between now and the end of the season. Jarvis has the opportunity to impress and Wolves will face a run of opposing defences that may yet see them notch a few wins and convert some of their wingers’ creativity.

Jarvis arrives at Gameweek 13 with an unspectacular but healthy 42 Fantasy points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, having tallied 2 goals, 1 assist, and 8 bonus points for his efforts. While that total currently finds him just squeezing into the top 30 Fantasy Midfielders, his early season performance becomes slightly more respectable when you consider that Wolves have already faced Everton, Fulham, Tottenham, Villa, Chelsea, Man City, Man United, and Arsenal during their opening stretch of games.

Looking forward, the first meetings with these “stronger” teams are out of the way. As hit upon by Andy in the recent Frisking the Fixtures, Wolves now hit a very attractive stretch of 7 games through Boxing Day: BOL, blp, SUN, blr, BIR, wba, and WIG. It definitely looks like much clearer sailing ahead.

Owned by 1.1% of of the FPL teams, Jarvis is a long shot in his own right, but seems poised to take off. Alternatively, if you’re digging the Wolves’ schedule and want to gamble on an even bigger differential, you might consider joining the other 0.2% of Fantasy Managers who own Stephen Hunt. Having recently returned from injury, Hunt has yet to produce any Fantasy results in 45, 63, 63, and 83 minutes during the past 4 games, but has been a steady, if not spectacular low-priced options in seasons past.

    Hey guys,

I dont usually ask but i need serious help with my team! I've had 2 game weeks where i hit 23 points and 33 points respectively! I know we all have had low gameweeks but im really drifting away from the rest of the guys in my league. I know my team is midfield heavy and im thinking of dropping maybe arteta or malouda to beef up my defense. What do you guys reckon? Thing is arteta malouda fabregas drogba are all differntials between me and the guys above me in the league. So could pay off long term?

Please help, i'll buy you a cookie 🙂

Hman, I'm in the same boat, been getting low scores and my once-healthy lead in my £ league has been slashed. My advice is to stick with Drogs, Maloud and Fabs for at least this next week, they will come good eventually and if none of your rivals have them, so much the better.

If I was you I'd lose Hernandez, for Elmander or Davies probably.. and upgrade Alcaraz. Gary Cahill would be top of my list, but I can't afford him.

Agree. Arteta is playing too deep this season. There are other players around that value or less, who will score more heavily over the course of the season - VDV, Nolan, Nzog, Walcott.

Perhaps desperation is taking over your transfer policy, you have three badly scoring strikers.Consistant form and a bit but not too much patience may be called for. What are your opponents doing?

    Gents,

I would appriciate you input here. The problem is, for this gameweek each player in my midfield and attack has potential to score points, but I'll need to drop at least one.

Also, I haven't made a transfer this week, I was thinking of sitting on the team and saving the transfer for next game week. Depending on performances, I'm thinking of down grading Bale and upgrading Malouda to Fabs. Is this folly, can you see anyone I should replace?

    Jaaskelainen (Carson)
    Dann Alex Elmohamady Coleman Toure
N'Zogbia Malouda Van der Vaart Nani Bale
    Carroll Elmander Tevez

    Thanks!

Likewise. He's the weakest player on paper, and has competition from Klasnic.

I'd use a transfer on the defence though. Elmo, Coleman and Dann all have tough fixtures, plus the rotation risk on Elmo and Coleman. I reckon Coleman's safe, but not sure about Elmo.

If he sticks with Elmo for just a little bit, then he hits a glorious long-term run of fixtures.

Whether he plays is a slight doubt, but stick with it.

Bale is an obvious one when you already have VDV, though he may start coming good with Defoe around to get on the end of a few crosses.

For me, Dann has to go - Birmingham shipping goals, poor run of fixtures and he has already scored his mandatory goal for the season. If you were to downgrade to Simpson or Foley would that give you enough funds to Malouda >Fabregas?

I already have a cool £5.3m tucked away in the bank so no real need to free up any funds.

I could ugrade Malouda to Fabergas and invest the rest in Irish government bonds, how's that for a plan?

asked this very late last night..

nyone thinking of benching carroll? i got brunt in for nasri last night, and now have the following front 8

    arteta, nani, brunt, adam, Hunt

    Tevez, Drogba (carroll)

As you can see i have a dilemma. The reason i think im benching carroll is because the main delivery man, barton, is out, and ameobi might be out too. Plus newcastle seem to be shit at home. A few of you will say im mad, but does anyone agree with me?

i cant bench hunt gents, got him in last week for these past two games. i wish i had the balls to remove drogba! or ancellotti said he was out this weekend, that'd be great.

no, i cant touch that midfield, i've had the worst weeks on reconrd recently. although, maybe areta out.

i was saying alst night, every highlight ive seen of everton the last couple of games, whenever they attack, artea is hardly ever to be seen on the bloody screen and it takes up as far as ten yards outside the box! very disconcerting

Doubt you'll afford one for Faye or Carr, and 4pt hit they have to have CS or better to justify it.

Arteta to VDV this week? or some other transfer
will get rid of one of dann/coleman/mummy for knight next week and get nzogbia in for bale after.. no hits.. yay or nay? team linked.. but here it is anyway
Robinson (Mignolet.. will start robinson till january)
        Alex Mummy Coleman Dann Jara
        Fabregas Nani Arteta Bale Barton
        Drogba Tevez Carroll

Gonna keep Jara as he's back next week.. and gettin nzogbia in for bale in 2 weeks to rotate with barton(rotates perfectly!!)..

VDV doesn't have the best fixtures after this week, that is what is putting me off transferring him in, but he could be immense this week.

In fairness Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in their next four is a different kettle of fish, but you're right he could still score well. There are probably better options though for that price.

VDV also still has fitness concerns so I really wouldn't bother. Arteta has plenty of points potential for this weekend anyway, he tends to step up against the big sides at Goodison.

team for this weekend (I think!)

              Hahnemann (Foster)

He doesn't strike me as the nasty type. He doesn't help himself the way he stops with both feet though. He caught Hamman like that and it did not look pretty.

will get ARS WBA WIG at home as compared to BLA LIV CHE at home for VDV.. can then think about makin the switch to VDV.. can use my transfer this week and the next to sort out my defense and then get nzogbia in for bale

I'd do that, part of me really wants VDV but the fixtures aren't great (not that that's troubled him thus far), he's a slight injury doubt, defoe's coming back which might mean he gets dropped back. Too many question marks for me.

I think I would be more concerned about Barton and Jara. With rotation and resting a playing bench is more important imo. 🙂

I saw talk on here last night about Nani, and his "protection", I think the last few weeks have only gone to show that you can't trust the protection factor, in that FPL seemed to have changed their rules on it, when the likes of TotalFPL had figured something out in this regard previously.

If your budget is too tight to get a player should he rise, just go ahead and get him just in case, despite "protection"

My 2 free transfers this week, was thinking:

Chamkh ➜ Wingie (to free up cash)
                          ShawX ➜ Cashely

                          Team would look like this:

                          Robinson (Foster)
Enrique • Cole • Stam • (Jones) (Coleman)
                          Fabs (c) • Malouda • Cahill • Ethers (Adam)
                          Drogba • Wingie • Carroll

                          Thoughts?

What do you think JU? Decent?

Worth a 4pt hit to get VDV or Nani in? Or wait?

Maybe Alex a good option instead of the cashley ? Also not sure about ehters with pennant in there robbing a lot of the set pieces off him! You reckon Coleman will start the next game for sure Dunc ?

Is Alex a safe bet or does he get rotated? Might be a good shout, keep hearing how 'essential' cashley is though.

Yeah i Had Alex earlier in the season and hes great in the box and can also have a pop from free kicks! I reckon Terry and Alex in the centre with Ivanovic and Bosingwa battling it out for the RB place.. Fairly sure chelsea are through in the champs league too so dont think he would be rotated assuming he is fully fit

Think you’ve missed the boat on cashley – he’s too expensive for a defender now when you could have the likes of nani & vdv for a similar price

N'zogbia to outscore Adam/Carroll (would have to bench one of them) by 4+ points this week?

Just look at the #shots he has per game.

I will be bringing in one of them tomorrow.
