Joe Hart has pulled out of training today ahead of Wednesday’s England friendly against France with a suspected back injury. Reports suggest that Hart went down quite soon after the session commenced and team-mates rushed over to discover that the England No 1 was in some serious pain. He was eventually helped from the field and it is still unclear how serious the extent of the injury is, although Fabio Capello doesn’t have any major worries…

“Hart, the doctor is waiting to decide what happened. We think it will not be a big problem for him.”

The Manchester City goalkeeper is the most owned in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game by quite some distance, being used by 30.3% of managers. He is also the highest scoring player in this position with a total of 72 points and has recently notched-up a notable three clean sheets in as many games.

If the injury does prove to be a lengthy one then Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini does of course have the ready-made replacement in the shape of the dependable Shay Given, priced at £5.4million in the FPL.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

good people of FFS i bring to you my theory that bale is now better value than van der vaart. last match 'arry moved van der vaart onto the wing and played 2 strikers. defoe's return would make this move even more likely, especially in home games. van der vaart is cleaning up in home games and keeping quiet in away games. is it time to switch back to bale? van der vaart playing right mid for 8.3mil or bale playing left mid for 6.9mil?

Van Der Vaart on penalties and most free kicks swings it for me, stays in my team

I doubt that Defoe has ever scored a penalty in his life.... He's hopeless at them.

Can't remember his record but I think he's missed at least half of his last 10. After Pav's miss on Saturday, I'm pretty certain that VDV will take the next one regardless of who else is on the pitch.

Vdv plays free form/ roaming and takes set pieces.
      Bale is always double marked.

i'm saying this as i'm feeling pressurised to get van der vaart, but with upcoming fixtures if van der vaart is not playing up front with crouch and isn't on penalties either i can't see the value in him.

don't have either. the blackburn game was the first time vdv didn't have a ludicrous number of shots, yes he got 10 points still but a corner and a handball isn't the most appetising. he was much more tempting playing up front with crouch.
we'll have to see where 'arry plays him in the next few games and once defoe returns

The thing for me is that i think VDV seems to want to cut in and shoot more. Seems more selfish, which works for me in ff terms.

I have VDV at the moment, so will keep the faith - if his output stays less than Bales for the enxt few weeks i may reconsider though.

I'm with you apple. Seeing how Spurs played with two strikers (which they will surely do more often with Defoe's return), it made me yearn for Bale back in my team. Two strikers means it's harder for Bale to be doublemarked.

it's hard to argue against vdv right now but i don't think he will be so essential if he's on the right. and like you say 2 strikers would make bale more tempting too, more to hit with his crosses and less of vdv dominating attacking play. i know it's only one game but i'm not sure a corner and a handball assist is proof van der vaart will continue producing the goods at right mid. obviously 1 game isn't enough to disprove it either.

                  its an interesting one

id expect 1 up top away from home with vdv behind crouch.

i also think hell play bale left back, lennon right and vdv in a free-ish sort of role with bale covering the whole flank when they go 2 up top

                  might be wrong tho

Despite Bale's points were over 2 for the first time in 5 games, his performance was deserving of much more. Several times Pav and Crouch missed wide open headers, and touch in provided by the Welsh.

HR has acknowledged his speed/confidence and crossing ability by moving him to LM. With him out there spurs attack becomes more balanced and harder to check. (tall forward only good for headers, short quick defoe, vdv on right who loves to shoot back post but has great passing, little luca's great ball handling and midfield control)

spurs have multiple options in the back, and given Bale's attacking powers, I doubt Redknapp will change something that worked so well.

What with all these injuries to England players, I've been doing some serious training this week on the off-chance I might get a last minute call up into the squad.

Not expecting a full 90 minutes or anything, just a bit of a run-out from the bench in the second half.

I don't have enough spare cash for that, so it's either:

        a) Malouda -> Nani (4 point hit) or
        b) Arteta & Alex -> Nani & < 5.4m defender, Cahill for eg (8 point hit)

I see it as a small differential. Terry 26%, Alex 7&, Ivanovic 6%, Bosingwa 3%, Zhirokv 2%, that is 38% of the players. I guess Ivanovic owners will transfer him out. Late Cashley owners also. We, the proud Cashley owners since the beginning, will be the only one profiting from potential CS's.

Weve won the champions league and reached a final and won league titles since their arrival and we have spent 100s of millions on players

      Universe sized facepalm.

That success was based of the 25 years building previous to the glazers taking control. You can't see how the team and spending has changed since they took control? I actually like the emphasis on youth, because come on, they are taking every match goers pound and sticking it in their pockets rather than putting it back into the club.

I totally agree that the reason for our success is the hard work of sir alex and many others within the club. I guess my point is that nothing has changed since their arrival that is worthy of such hatred they have basically let sir alex continue his work and helped out financially whenever it has been needed theyve done nothing wrong. The debt has always been manageable and the club has never been in any real financial danger. Which bank doesnt want part of man utd?! Its in the banksbest interests to keep man utd happy not the other way round because man utd does and forever will continue to make money for them. If anything it provides the banks/lenders security that the debt is owed to them by MAN UTD. They know they'll get the money back eventually.

That's all very nice for the banks, but weren't things going quite well for Utd before the Glaziers?

Selling Ronaldo for £80m just to service the debt (as Utd's own financial records showed) is probably a sign that the debt wasn't manageable, and without the sale there would have been financial danger. Especially in the context of the financial world at that time.

I don't know much about this, but it seems a step in the right direction. How many years have the Glaziers been there before this happened?

The reason i was saying that stuff about the banks was because i feel that alot of the hatred is because people wrongly believe that at any random time the lenders could jusy call in the debt and man utd would cease to exist this is about 99.9% never going to happen. Ronaldo was going to go no matter what, the fact that most of the money was used to clear some debt is common practice at nearly every football club in the world. If sir alex really wants to buy someone he will be given the money as they have proven time and time again.

Do you really think that is it for Mummy? He hasn't played in two games, but up until then was really solid.

I think I will hang on to see what Bruce does this weekend. I still think he will get back into the line-up as a regular.

I think Mr Pulis finally realised Huth is a CB and not a RB. Him and Shawcross in the centre from now on. Collins at LB and Wilkinson at RB. Watch this space.

Yeah, I'm keeping a half eye on the situation. If the same backline starts v West Brom which kept Liverpool (just Torres then lol) at bay, Stoke defenders could become useful for clean sheets again.

Aren't all those players centre-backs really? Think you're right, it's between Huth and Faye for the 2nd CB slot. At some point I need to do Faye to Konch and Elmo to Kolarov, just need to sell Malouda 1st to free up the cash.

O'Shea is now down to 5.3.

Is this a must sell at this point? I hate losing the money on the sale, but it just doesn't feel like there are regular starts in him at this stage.

O'Shea to Kolarov this week then? Or should I hang on since Wigan at home is a good shout for a cleany if O'Shea does manage to start.

    Rafael is likely out, so...

Yeah and City are away to Fulham, so not bad but not a dead-cert sure cleany.

Would also be keen to make sure Mancini is going to keep Kolorov as a nailed on LB as well so one more week to see how he gets on can't hurt.

I have Mummy and O'Shea right now so feels like I need a little more certainty from one of those guys.

Plan will be to hold the course for this week on both and hope for the best.

    Elmohamady > Kolarov

Leaves me enough next week to do Mignolet > Fabianski OR Jaask

    Current team

    Carson (Mignolet)

Vidic – Kolarov – Foley (Simpson – Coleman)

    Jarvis – Fabregas – Nani – Bale – Lee

    Drogba – Torres – Odemwingie

(Looking at possibilities to replace Terry)...

So is Ashley Cole actually injured or one of those precautionary "injuries" to not play for the national team in a midweek game? Would need to do two trades and downgrade in MD to get him...

How about thoughts on Ivanovic as an investment instead? All I can find as a drawback is the possibility of a 5th yellow... Am I missing something?
