Steven Gerrard will undergo a scan today to assess the extent of a hamstring injury sustained in England’s 2-1 friendly defeat to France last night at Wembley. Gerrard left the field after 84 minutes with the problem, breaking an agreement between Liverpool and England stating that the midfielder would only play for an hour.

The prognosis is not yet known, although the Daily Telegraph’s Henry Winter has reported through his Twitter account, that Gerrard could be out of action for 4-5 weeks…

The Reds were left fuming after Fabio Capello decided to break their promise by keeping the player on the field. Liverpool’s head of fitness and conditioning Darren Burgess vented his anger on Twitter, although the rant was removed shortly afterwards…

“Unbelievable from all associated with England and English FA with regard to Steven Gerrard’s injury. Completely ignored agreement and past history.”

The Liverpool captain’s possible spell on the sidelines will come as a massive blow for Roy Hodgson’s men and a large proportion of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Managers, with the player currently boasting 12.9% ownership. Although one of the most expensive players in the FPL game at £11.4 and by no means enjoying his greatest season, Gerrard has managed to notch-up a steady 57 points this so far this term and could leave Fantasy Football Managers with a dilemma.

With the probable absence of Gerrard and Lucas Leiva’s suspension, Liverpool are facing a crisis in midfield for the visit of West Ham on Saturday. This surely means that, along with Raul Meireles, Christian Poulsen will start the game and the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Jay Spearing could hope for some minutes. With Gerrard being the regular spot-kick taker Fernando Torres, who is also a doubt, will be the likely replacement.

Saturday’s home fixture against West Ham is a must win game for Liverpool, but with doubts hanging over several key first-team regulars (Torres, Joe Cole, Dirk Kuyt and Martin Skrtel) and of course the Gerrard injury, it is already looking a potentially uncomfortable encounter for Roy Hodgson’s side.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

gerrard is overrated and overpriced in FPL...never used him b4 and never will..doesnt score high enough regularly enough..il stick to fabregas and lampard, when fit, as my big priced midfleiders..as they are consistent scorers....anybody agree/disagree???

He might be slightly expensive for the team he's playing in but when liverpool score it's usually him scoring or assisting.

This news doesn't just have implications for Gerrard owners but also Torres owners.

I presume a lot of the Gerrard owners will be piling on to VdV or Bale. Cahill is a "blue nose" and Nani is MU.

As a Torres owner myself, is it too much to hope that he might get a couple of penalties to counter-act the fact that the overall play of the team will undoubtedly be weakened by Gerrard's absence?

I don't see this injury affecting Torres too much. OK Pool will create less, but Torres will be on pens. I won't get him in, but he's still the one I'm most afraid of scoring big.

    Drogba
    Tevez
    Nani
    Walcott

    or

    Harewood

    Fabregas

    I havent been on in a couple of days so just looking through the old articles, and reading the one on charlie adam saw this in the write up by jfinlay;

"Reports meanwhile from the local rag in Blackpool suggest that scans on the knee injury...."

If you're gonna use something for a quote and make out that you're serious about Gilks having a knee injury, how you can call that source a rag is f**king retarded.

Whether or not it is a rag is immaterial, the bottom line is unless you're making fun of the story, or casting doubt on it, using the detrimental comment of 'RAG' is retarded when you're using said Rag to back up your reporting.

I am not affiliated with the blackpool Gazette, as most people on here know.

    Anyway, f**king retarded comment.

Wasn't using the term 'rag' just an idiosyncrasy of the writer though? It's just a phrase lots of writers/journalists use to describe a certain kind of paper.

Although not to do with Fantasy football I keep seeing posts every few hours mentioning the Fifa goal of 2010.

Could we maybe get a poll up like the captain one to see what everyones thoughts are.

To be fair Epic..it's all good - Roy is fine to raise this. Perhaps the reference to being "retarded" was a little harsh though.

We want feedback and our writers, in particular John who has just joined us, certainly does. To be fair to him, he actually didn't write the final paragraph. It was added after he had completed the section on Adam's situation.

The way he went about it is no doubt the main reason why people will get their backs up. You can't go around saying things in that way and expect nice responses. It wouldn't be so bad but he does it all the time. Blatant troll.

I do agree with the underlying point though.

relax brudda, "rag" is not necessarily an insult. It's often just a slang word for newspaper, especially a low circulation local one.

e.g. "yeah I'm a journalist, I write for the local rag, can I buy you a drink?"

You've obviously spotted that the paper in question was being used as a source so contextually it's implied that the author is not putting it down.

      Climb down off that pole

Definitely getting K. Davies in for Piquionne this week, but Lucifer is tempting me to make a sordid 4 pt hit.I can't stand the site of Malouda in my team any more, and want to be in the VdV promised land, but all sensibility says I should keep a hold of Malouda considering this week's fixtures.

Arteta. They get a clean sheet, you're 3pts down. They concede a couple, you're 1 pt up. But Arteta is more likely to get attacking points or boni.

Balls to it all. Gilks you are a troublesome little mingemaggot, considering an 8 pointer

    Gilks out Gordon in
Bosingwa out Carr (or some other shitter) in
    Tevez out Rooney in.

    It's either that or seppuku.

    Balls.

Been working on a wild card team of which this is the latest version (new players in caps):

    Foster, JAASKALEINEN
    VIDIC, KOLAROV, KONCHESKY, Coleman, FOLEY
Fabregas, Van de Vaart, NANI, Adam, FERGUSON
    GYAN, Carroll, Drogba

Can anyone help me on this please? I'm probably going to take Gordon instead of Foster as they rotate so well with each other all the way to the next Wild Card.

Everyone’s waiting til after the Brum game it to see if Chelsea are crap.

This is a mistake, last year a full strength Chelsea should have lost the same fixture 1-0 through a Benitez goal wrongly disallowed.

So I’d put my house on 0-0 for this one but only question is who to drop Malouda or Drogba… which one will come good and bite u in the ass?

Obviously last years stat isn't the only contributing factor ffs but it shows correlation:-

            Chelsea aren't scoring

            Brum don't want to score

              lol, are you threatening me?

Let me give you an analogy, since i can tell you're struggling with this.

Let's consider a dialect between John and Fred

John: The next car that comes around the corner will be red, i know this because it's 3 o clock, and red is the first 3 letter colour i thought of.

Fred: That is terrible logic, and doesn't point to a red car coming round the corner next.

*red car comes round the corner*

John: see? i'm right, you better not show your face round here for a while.

Did the red car coming round the corner prove that Fred was wrong, or vindicate John's reasoning? No, it did neither.

              Comprendre?

(I'm probably the only one on this board with certainly grad-level philosophy training, so it's remarkable you got into a discussion with me about logic lol.)

                  1. Thats a dishonest analogy. The time and colour in his mind have no bearing on the car coming but the reasons I gave do have bearing on my prediction.

                  2. Tott v Ars will probably be a high scoring game, because they are high-scoring teams and usually score lots against each other. Poor reasoning ?

                  3. There is a high probability Bir v Che will be 0-0 based on current form and past results with largely the same team. Poor reasoning ?

                  Discussion over my friend.

                    Absolutely.
I have a first class masters in maths, which i think probably covers more advanced logic than you, and certainly more about probability. Not that that matters since you only need a little common sense to understand what i'm saying.

A quick look on stan james gives odds of a 0-0 at 10-1, that isn't a high probability is it? It's more likely that it won't happen. If you're so sure why don't you put all your money on it?

                    1. Yes i'll concede it isn't the fairest analogy, but your argument goes way too far the other way and gives too much weight to the fixture last year. Football is far too unpredictable and there are too many variables.

2,3. No, it's a different kind of statement, and i think there is more evidence in those teams respective forms to say that.

By saying something will be 0-0 you're asserting that neither team will score a goal, that immediately removes all but one possible scorelines. Asserting something will have alot of goals is quite different in terms of probabilities - but of course, you already know this?

the most important thing as i'm sure most people here realise is that stats and form can point to something happening but it can so easily go the other way, Arsenal SHOULD have beat WBA and NEW at home, they didn't, why not? etc. etc.

0-0's are ridiculously hard to predict because it only takes one moment out of 90 minutes to balls it all up.

                    Discussion over, agreed.

Not for me to tell you what to do andy, but you have probably been a bit fortunate to avoid any injuries to your team. Early transfers are high risk, obviously it may pay off and you could get lucky to avoid injuries etc etc - but in relality the best way to give you, the best chance of getting it right is to wait till Fri evening.

Red arrows can just be bad luck - captaincy choice is key, but its a lottery. Just got to hope you throw your dart in the right place more often than not. I would suggest the best change would be to put as much thought as possible into getting your (c) right, if you feel you need to change anything

"Fernando Torres, who is also a doubt, will be the likely replacement."

Torres doesn't appear to be in doubt to me

    http://www.fernando9torres.com/index.php?p=4276

this article says he's fully recovered and looked lively against portugal. I'm a bit worried that without Gerrard he won't get as much service to score from.

I had captained Torres this week but maybe Nani is a safer bet. If Ronaldo hasn't had him killed before the weekend that is 🙂
