Steven Gerrard will undergo a scan today to assess the extent of a hamstring injury sustained in England’s 2-1 friendly defeat to France last night at Wembley. Gerrard left the field after 84 minutes with the problem, breaking an agreement between Liverpool and England stating that the midfielder would only play for an hour.

The prognosis is not yet known, although the Daily Telegraph’s Henry Winter has reported through his Twitter account, that Gerrard could be out of action for 4-5 weeks…

The Reds were left fuming after Fabio Capello decided to break their promise by keeping the player on the field. Liverpool’s head of fitness and conditioning Darren Burgess vented his anger on Twitter, although the rant was removed shortly afterwards…

“Unbelievable from all associated with England and English FA with regard to Steven Gerrard’s injury. Completely ignored agreement and past history.”

The Liverpool captain’s possible spell on the sidelines will come as a massive blow for Roy Hodgson’s men and a large proportion of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Managers, with the player currently boasting 12.9% ownership. Although one of the most expensive players in the FPL game at £11.4 and by no means enjoying his greatest season, Gerrard has managed to notch-up a steady 57 points this so far this term and could leave Fantasy Football Managers with a dilemma.

With the probable absence of Gerrard and Lucas Leiva’s suspension, Liverpool are facing a crisis in midfield for the visit of West Ham on Saturday. This surely means that, along with Raul Meireles, Christian Poulsen will start the game and the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Jay Spearing could hope for some minutes. With Gerrard being the regular spot-kick taker Fernando Torres, who is also a doubt, will be the likely replacement.

Saturday’s home fixture against West Ham is a must win game for Liverpool, but with doubts hanging over several key first-team regulars (Torres, Joe Cole, Dirk Kuyt and Martin Skrtel) and of course the Gerrard injury, it is already looking a potentially uncomfortable encounter for Roy Hodgson’s side.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Will WBA keep a CS's? Yes or no? Can they cope with the physical presence of Jones, Fuller and those Delap throw ins? Little bit worried.

Don't get the idea that Kolarov isn't a confirmed starter from now on. He starts the first game of the season, gets injured, gets two brief run outs then starts again. Add on his price tag and the lack of competition and it's obvious he's gonna be starting the vast majority of games, cheaper and with more attacking potential than anyone else in his defence.

I mean, Boateng is still worth considering just because of his versatility, but Toure at 6.4 is outrageous when those two are available. Just wish Kompany was listed as a 5.5 defender lol...

Would I be mad to get rid of both Drogs and Malouda this week? From what I know Drogs dropped out of the Ivory Coast squad and is still struggling with malaria. Was thinking Chamakh and Nani as replacements?

      Fabianski

Yeah, although Djourou's done very well I think Kos will come straight back in. That's the midfield, goon 87. Would be suprised if RVP started - but would also love it! And the only other one is Rosicky could start instead of Arsh for the possession that's in it... or Walcott on the right and Nas on the left for the shredding of Akotto that's in it.

Djourou has improved but Arsene loves his frenchies so Kos will more than likely get the nod. Not too sure on rvp coz chamakh has been impressive lately.

    Hi guys

I need to buy a good defender for 5.0m or less.

    My short list is:
    1/ Turner - Sunderland
    2/ Bramble - Sunderland
    3/ Shawcross - SToke
    Already have Konchesky, Coleman, Enrique.

My dream would be G Cahill at 5.4m but I need to sell before I can buy.

SHould I go for one of the 3 above or free up some cash to go for bigger/better?

I think Nedum Onuoha is too quickly dismissed as 'chasing last week's points'. Maybe it's just because I've always quite liked the guy but if you look at it, he gets forward a lot, he was played OOP at City in midfield and scored. Scored last week, already got 2 assists (more than elmo) and check out his wiki page:

"He achieved eight 'A' and two 'B' grades at GCSE. He then completed his studies at Xaverian College Manchester where he achieved three 'A' grades at A-level. (FOOTBALL BRAIN!)

An outstanding junior sprinter; aged 14 he finished in second place in the final of the 2001 English School's Athletics Association Junior 100 metres contest, clocking 11.09 seconds and beating current Great Britain sprinter Craig Pickering. (RAPID AS F***!)"

      What's not to like?

You're already looking at Sunderland for their c/s and good results against good sides... look no further than big Nedum!

Hart is a doubt having been injured in England camp training, so that is a weak link. Following Superdorrans post above and Jara's exploits this week, he may not play for West Brom, therefore you are down to one sub with Barton out, Foley.

Team is good, squad might need 1 or 2 changes

Liverpool's injury report makes me think that this week is a good week to play Piquionne instead of benching him?

May also be time to get rid of Konchesky too. If Gerrard out for a month they will be muck defensively.

I was thinking the same, Albrighton or Piquionne now for me, although that being said, Liverpool will be inept without Gerrard going forward, defensively they could be okay at home. But without Lucas and Gerrard, the back 4 are seriously exposed.

the gerrard over fabregas 3 game gamble now reads, gerrard 9, fabregas 16, + a point hit to get rid of gerrard = 11 points down the toilet.
had things worked slightly differently and fabregas got a red for his challenge on ward and gerrard's shot againt wigan hit the bar then gone over the line, plus him not getting injured last night it would read gerrard 15, fabregas 0, with gerrard home against bottom of the table west ham to come. balls

Hows this rogues gallery for the next GW?

    Jaaskelainen

    Knight / Mummy / Tamas

    Arteta / Fabregas / Nani (c) / VdV

    Drogba / Rooney / Carroll

    Subs: Al-Habsi, Jagielka, Simpson, Barton

Proper shite isn't it? Plus it costs an 8 point hit, I HAVE to get rid of Gilks and to finance the move Bosingwa goes thus costing 4 points to start with, thought I'd throw Rooney in instead of Tevez to act as a differential in a wild gamble to make good the 8 pointer.

I don't like the losing of Bosingwa (certain starter now) but leaving Mummy in. Why does Gilks have to go? The replacement is on the bench anyway.

But it doesn't matter if he's knacked or not if he's on your bench! Save it until you really don't want to play Jaask.

Don't know how your money works, but I'd hold the Tevez>Rooney transfer, and use the money on Elmo>someone rather than losing Bosingwa.

Bale's volley vs Stoke is surely better than Neymar's. I'm very underwhelmed with his (unless it was a Michael Thomas-style 90th minute championship winner).
