Bolton’s rise to the Champions League places was once again orchestrated by the performance of a strike pairing who are becoming the most feared double act in the Premier League. I can barely believe those words as they are typed.

Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies justified the oxygen we’ve been feeding them on these pages but sharing four goals in the 5-1 dismantling of Newcastle at the Reebok today. Throw in one assist each for the pair and you’re left with points totals that see them both take up places amongst the top four Forwards in the Fantasy Premier League game. Elmander, incredibly, is now at the top of those rankings and if Bonus Points fall kindly, he could rank as the top scoring player in the entire game. Astonishing.

Currently owned by just under 14% of FPL Managers, the Swede enjoyed a price rise this week. Get used to it – Elmander’s value will surely soar with Bolton facing the porous Blackpool defence in a week’s time. At just 6.1 in the FPL, the lure will surely prove too much and already there’s talk of the armband for Gameweek 15. Rewind 12 months and such an accolade for Elmander was simply unthinkable – he was lucky to experience the warmth of a crowded bench, let alone that of the Reebok faithful.

Poor Kevin Davies is having the season of his life but even his substantial contribution looks likely to be overshadowed; Elmander’s seemingly relentless rise to prominence is looking just too irresistible. Owen Coyle’s prize asset will be a hot property in January – even hotter in the Summer. Right now it’s Fantasy Managers who will be shopping at the Reebok and they’re likely to come in droves.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Drogba or Torres is what i'm currently asking myself. Currently got Torres and changing for next gameweek would mean a 4 point hit. Looking at fixtures, next week Chelsea are away at Newcastle, Liverpool are away at Tottenham, but in 2 weeks Liverpool are away at Newcastle and Chelsea are away at Tottenham. In-between Chelsea are at home to Everton and Liverpool are at home to Aston Villa so fixtures are very similar in terms of difficulty. I'm leaning towards sticking with Torres but Drogba sounded good today even though he didn't score. Decisions, decisions...

    Hello all.

Is it time to drop Cech?

Bad run from Chelsea defense and bad schedule ahead, i'm leaning towards droping in for Hart.

    Team is:
    Cech-Gilks
    Coleman-Evra-R Johnson-Jara-Simpson
    Nolan-Bale-Fabs-T Cahill-Nani
    Drogs-Elmander-Carroll

Also considering keeping Drogs one more week because Newcastle defense could give him some candys. If he can't do something against Newcastle...it's time to go.

    Cheers.

With Drogba, the longer you've kept hold of him the more it seems you may as well stick it out with him now and wait for him to come good again.

I got rid a few weeks ago and, to be honest with you, at £13m I don't see myself getting him back any time soon. There's enough decent striking talent around this season to negate the 'Drogba is a must have' argument, in my opinion.

I just got Davies in to pair up with Carroll. I have Tevez as well but he's gone a fair few games firing blanks too and I wouldn't hesitate to firing him out too for a cheaper player in better form.

No I would have liked if they gave some credit to Kevin Davies and maybe looked at this performance.

It was Bolton's yet they praised Carroll for "showing some effort even when 3-0" and "wanting the ball out of the net"

Oh. We couldnt attract anyone of that calibre at the moment. Gerrard is our best midfielder we just don't play as a team with him, we play as a support network for him. A tweak of tactics or position for him is what we need.

Most of the serious players won't really be using it though; our teams will be set for the season. I'll take a look at mine after the window closes and see if any interesting signings have been made.

How do you work that out.

In fact it's the other way round. It's more likely that the serious players WILL use it.

I meant use it like a proper wildcard. Seriously, who doesn't already have the spine of their team already? Are you going to sell them all with your new wildcard? Losing 0.5+ on Nani, VDV and Vidic so you can never sign them back? No. You'll make a couple of changes, barring an injury crisis.

It could be more than 2 months till i use it so who's to say? A lot changes in that time. Are you telling me that two months ago people would be flogging Drogba or selling Ashley Cole?

One thing i'm certain of though is that people will use their wildcards and 99% will make more than 2 changes

Selling Chelsea players is only be a short-term thing; they'll be scoring high again by the time January comes around. By that time, the league is largely set and you know who's going to end up the top scorers. You don't need to have an overhaul.

I didn't literally mean that people wouldn't use it, but that they won't use it like a normal wild card. Sure, all of the ordinary players who aren't doing well will be making loads of changes, but most obsessive players will have their teams set. Of course, there will be some exceptions if there are injury problems.
