Bolton’s rise to the Champions League places was once again orchestrated by the performance of a strike pairing who are becoming the most feared double act in the Premier League. I can barely believe those words as they are typed.

Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies justified the oxygen we’ve been feeding them on these pages but sharing four goals in the 5-1 dismantling of Newcastle at the Reebok today. Throw in one assist each for the pair and you’re left with points totals that see them both take up places amongst the top four Forwards in the Fantasy Premier League game. Elmander, incredibly, is now at the top of those rankings and if Bonus Points fall kindly, he could rank as the top scoring player in the entire game. Astonishing.

Currently owned by just under 14% of FPL Managers, the Swede enjoyed a price rise this week. Get used to it – Elmander’s value will surely soar with Bolton facing the porous Blackpool defence in a week’s time. At just 6.1 in the FPL, the lure will surely prove too much and already there’s talk of the armband for Gameweek 15. Rewind 12 months and such an accolade for Elmander was simply unthinkable – he was lucky to experience the warmth of a crowded bench, let alone that of the Reebok faithful.

Poor Kevin Davies is having the season of his life but even his substantial contribution looks likely to be overshadowed; Elmander’s seemingly relentless rise to prominence is looking just too irresistible. Owen Coyle’s prize asset will be a hot property in January – even hotter in the Summer. Right now it’s Fantasy Managers who will be shopping at the Reebok and they’re likely to come in droves.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I take the opposite view- I think this obsession with passion in the English game is what is wrong with the Pemier League. Too many managers getting sacked just because they are more cognitive than brash....

Koscielny has had more red cards than clean sheets. He should have scored and then minutes later gave away the free kick and didn't defend it properly.

Not complaining, my team is finally coming together after weeks in the wilderness, but isn't it just pure fantasy luck that the first time Lee Bowyer gets a start for lordy knows how long, I ship him out. Glad he didn't get the bonus though, that would have been insult to injury!

They way my season is going I would transfer him out this week and he would go on and have a field day against Newcastle next week. There is going to be a blacklash from Chelsea given the 2 defeats in a row.

I had the same problem, but then I looked long and hard at the stats and the obvious just slapped me in the face... 50% of Malouda's points came in his first few weeks, since then he has barely done anything, and if I miss one more massive VdV performance suicide may become an option!

Nope, he was brilliant. Only going to be time before he gets a huge points haul. We haven't seen the best of Arsenal yet, they always go through a patch when they smash teams at home, that hasn't come yet and when it does he'll be in the big points. Also going to help that RVP is back.

Jones is a diving c*nt. Stoke had 1 shot on target and beat us 3-0, only a bogey team like them could do that. Marc Wilson verbally abused a 14 year old. Dean Whitehead said after the game it wasn't a pen for the second. I hate the Deliah song and the way they cheer when they get in a throw in. I hate how were their 'biggest' rivals cos of Port Vale's failure.

    I hate Stoke. 🙁

Oh and will Carson ever, ever, ever save a penalty?!

Sorry did you go to the game? Thought so. Maybe cos we have had every decision pretty much go against us recently.

Blackpool - Pablo sent off wrongly in first ten minutes, played for an hour with 9 men.

West Ham - They should never have had the penalty.

Wigan - No excuses. We were rubbish.

Stoke - If you think they were pens you must have something wrong with you?

We always lose to Stoke so it was inevitable but to have one shot on target and win 3-0, only a bogey team could do that. I never got carried away with it when we were in 6th? I just enjoyed it, who wouldn't if your a club in our position? I'm not surprised we've lost a few games, I just think that in our last 4 games, the referee has made big decisions against us in 3 of them.

We were far from outplayed against West Ham, in fact we outplayed them first half and today we definitely weren't, we had much more possesion and created more shots on goal, hardly being outplayed.

Whatever, can't be bothered to argue it anymore anyway. You obviously have a grudge against us for whatever reason.

SD...Wayne Rooney is one of the most over-paid humans on the Planet Earth.

He was a precocious (if over-weight) talent who is now just simply OVER-WEIGHT!

He is a GREEDY FAT PATHETIC B@STARD who isn't even liked by his own.

i also own elmander, i think he's a better shout FPL wise than davies over the long term. it really is a 50/50 though. yes, i think he's worth getting in tonight- he won't be playing any games midweek, so bar an injury in training he will be 100% fine for next week. you will catch his rise tonight- go for it man!

I know this sounds like a knee-jerk, but I was planning it this week anyway - Malouda to VDV tonight? I know there's a CL game, but he's gonna go up at least .2 by next week, and I know I want him long-term (only didn't do it this week cos of injuries to half my def).

Depends if your strong squad has any rotation risks / glass legs. You want at least 1 decent sub, imo. Remember you always have to drop one of your front 8, so you want 1 cheapie there really.

Depends on how weak you're talking about. So long as they play and have the ability to do something in home games, the cheaper the better!

this season you could easily have 3 decent subs and still an ok team which gives you better options for the next gw. Ive always had a weak bench, they play but they're kak. Im begginning to think ive been doing it wrong all along!

cheap bench which can back up your team, but can be rotated in when other players have less favourable fixtures.

good mixture of defenders who can keep clean sheets or are OOP.

midfield I belive your 5th needs to be under 5 mill, but thats just subject to opinion. some teams have different structures so 5 quality midfielders are needed..

Most will have there lowest priced forward being carrol so the majority this year would have and will play three up front.. but that is also subject to fixtures.
