Earlier in the season Dimitar Berbatov almost prompted me into using my precious Wildcard. A sublime hat-trick at home to Liverpool sent the pulse racing and the urge to tinker seemed overwhelming. The Bulgarian looked irresistible and, having been handed a modest price tag in the Fantasy Premier League game, almost essential.

Thoughts gathered, I managed to keep the knee from jerking and my Wildcard remained intact. I spent the Gameweeks that followed thanking my lucky stars that I’d resisted as Berbatov, without the influence of Wayne Rooney alongside him, struggled to recall similar form. He proved to be anything but essential.

Today, the day I actually did throw my FPL Wildcard into the ring, the Berbatov bomb exploded once more. Five goals in a 7-1 mauling of Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford will grab the headlines on day when the Premier League went off the rails – 36 goals in total – not a clean sheet in sight. Madness…

Such insanity can be problematic for Fantasy Managers. The irony of such an avalanche of goals and such an individual performance on the day I play my Wildcard is not lost on me. In many ways I’m relieved; my tinkering itch has been well and truly scratched in the last 24 hours – the urge for more squad surgery is exhausted.

For others, probably thousands of others, Berbatov’s incredible performance and record FPL points haul will doubtless lead to one of the biggest bandwagons in memory. Tonight the scalpels will be out, hurried calculations will be made, points hits considered, more sleep lost. Berbatov has once again caused a big stir in our community. Not bad for a player who is often accused of failing to break sweat on the pitch.

And no, I didn’t sign Berbatov with my Wildcard but I’m happy enough regardless. My day and my Wildcard was anything but spectacular, but I’m content enough to opt out of the frenzy that Berbatov will cause and for that, I’m thankful.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

22K & average is 30 meaning the average for the top 100K is alot higher. Everyone should have Nani & Cahill/Nasri so most are on 19 minimum to start with.

last week, the handicap on ireland v newzealand was 20 points, so they won by 20 points.

this week, nzealand v wales handicap, 19 points, they win by yep, 19 points.

that is phenomenal by the bookies, everyone loses, they win all bets.

    simply amazing.

Didn't actually play that great but were very clinical. Our last 3 goals were fantastic. Dorrans looked like his old self, was sitting alongside Mulumbu as a holding midfielder and played really well. Odemwingie isn't on form at the moment, quite confident he'll start banging them in again soon but looks like he is trying too hard to me.

Nzogbia 'assist' does look like one to me on the low quality replay ive seen, although it is difficult to clearly see from the camera angle.

From the same game, the penalty taken by Boselli was really woeful.

I'm standing by my line that it's an assist.

MOTD will probably prove me wrong now.

Can't believe he didn't demand the spot kick either. Boselli's a total no-mark.

chose form, so it would be vdv because he's higher value than elmander since they're tied on form. so it sounds like i'd be stuck w/elmander if both drogs and vdv don't play- that would definitely be pouring salt on the wounds.

At least the first half (my guess), well 'arry usually leaves it till late to make such kind of decisions and this being quite an important game well VDV surely can't be overlooked, maybe not get the full 90 though. All this I hope 🙂

Praying that the Chelsea game is on. Out of nowhere, drogs has become a bit of a differential for me. I'm 20 points off the leader (who has Berbatov) and he doesn't have Drogs. A Drogba (c) brace tomorrow would do VERY nicely.

This predicted overnight heavy snowfall is a worry, though...

Getting in Hangeland instead of Vidic =FAIL

Getting in Davies in Piquionne out = FAIL

    Captaining Davies = FAIL

Selling Arteta last week = win.

If I can end up in the top 150k this season I think I'll be happy now. I can't choose a proper captain to save my life.

May just stick the armband on Nani and leave it there for the rest of the season, as changing it from week to week is doing nothing for my weekly scores..

That'll do me, I want one or the other, either VDV not playing or New-Chelsea game off. Will work out nicely. (Don't ask) even though I have 3 in that game and VDV. Not both though, never both. Ahh wait, actually, Coleman didn't play, I now want the Chelsea game to be on.

Anyone know what happened with N'Zogbia assist? BBC had it as :

Wigan goal: Time may be running out at Upton Park, but Wigan pull back a deserved goal. Charles N'Zogbia weaves his way through the right-hand side of the West Ham defence and lays the ball off to Tom Cleverley, who sidefoots a fine shot into the top corner.
