Harry Redknapp and Tottenham fans’ worst fears could soon be thrust upon them after it was reported Rafael Van der Vaart could face a month on the sidelines as a result of the hamstring problem that forced him off the field after just 12 minutes against Liverpool on Sunday. The Dutchman has been a revelation this season for Spurs, scoring 6 goals and making 5 assists in a series of outstanding Premier League displays that have seen him regarded as a close-to-essential acquisition amongst many Fantasy Football Managers.

The length of the injury has yet to be confirmed by Tottenham though Harry Redknapp is understandably frustrated with the loss of one of his key players…

“Rafa felt it tear, so that doesn’t look too good. It’s so disappointing for Rafa. He keeps picking up little injuries. It’s probably because he’s missed a pre-season or was away at the World Cup and not played many games. When your fitness is a bit low it’s hard to get up to speed. He keeps getting little nicks.”

Considering Van der Vaart didn’t make his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) debut till gameweek 4, his rise in price has been mightily impressive, jumping £1m in value (from his starting price of £7.5m to his current £8.5m) in the subsequent 11 gameweeks, with 29.4% of Fantasy Managers currently owning him. Food for thought, then, for those who snapped the ex-Real Madrid man up before that dramatic price-hike. Long-term VDV owners certainly have the biggest dilemma: will they keep him benched or make the move that, for some, could wipe as much as £0.5m off the value of their squads?

Sir Paulos is currently working on a substantial article delving into the merits of midfield alternatives, but two immediate stand-out ready-made replacements are Morten Gamst Pederson and Tim Cahill. Pederson has been declared 100% fit after missing Blackburn’s 7-1 slaughtering at Old Trafford and our recent Watchlist article details why the in-form man has the potential to be a cracking acquisition over the next few weeks.

Tim Cahill at times seems to be single-handedly keeping the Toffees season on course by relentlessly popping up with vital goals. He should be thought of as nothing more than a stop-gap replacement until Van der Vaart is back in action though, as the Australian takes leave of absence from the Premier League shortly to participate in the Asia Cup, and consequently may be out of domestic action for as much as six weeks.

David Moyes recently spoke on the matter, admitting:

They are due to take Tim in mid to late December and depending how far they go in the tournament will determine how long he is away. I’m trying to delay him going until January and will do the best I can.

Tottenham’s last week has quite possibly been their greatest under Harry Redknapp; they beat their old rivals in the North London derby, produced a memorable comeback against Liverpool and qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions League. With this momentum behind them you wouldn’t rule them out winning the vast majority of their next six league games (bir, CHE, blp, avl, NEW, FUL). The loss of Van der Vaart is unquestionably damaging, but the likes of Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon and Luka Modric have all shown in recent weeks that they’re more than capable of keeping the White Hart Lane midfield in shape.

I already replaced Arteta with Nasri this week. Now, how much will VdV drop? Should I take the hit and bring in either Cahill or Bale (or MGP) this week?

also, with Arteta out, will Coleman regain a spot? I also will need to address Coleman if he isn't playing.

As Arteta simply finished the job on Jara that Cahill wasn't capable of, shouldn't he and Cahill get 1 1/2 games ban each?

How could I forget Bale. Perhaps he's the obvious choice to get instead of VDV.

    Team for this week:

    Bergovic (Gilks)
    Kolarov, Cole, Foley, Kyrgiakos (Simpson)
    Nani, Bale, Nasri (Lee, VDV)
    Torres, Rooney (c), Carrol

Working on finding good diffs so will see how this turns out over the next 3 weeks. Need to transfer Gilks and very worried about VDV cover though have 2.3 in the bank.

Everyones looking for VDV's replacement so here's what i think for my team at least.

Bale's the obvious choice, could've easily had a goal yesterday.
Arshavin: Blows hot & cold and probably not wise to double up on Arsenal mids and Nasri seems the slightly better option.
N'Zogbia: Shit team so you never know which gameweeks he'll come good.
Silva: Could be a prudent option, great fixtures but he hasnt been doing much in recent weeks - maybe he doesnt like the cold?!

Well whoever i do buy i'd strongly advise others to avoid, if i transfer VDV out this week it'll be my 14th transfer done purely out of injury / suspension reasons.

And then it all goes horribly wrong AGAIN.

Based on injuries and form, do i do Drogba to Rooney and VDV to Pederson for a 4 point hit?

Drogba and VDV will go down and can see Rooney going up in value, plus form should be better.

    Thoughts?

I've already done the Rooney transfer. Thinking the same thing for VDV. I'll be taking a 4 point his this week. My 3rd hit in as many weeks. Times are hard

is it wildcard time for me now w/vdv news? i've already done arteta to nasri and my next move would be vdv to bale. i want kolarov in for coleman and potentially a tevez/bent for elmander. not as urgent, but want begovic for jussi sometime in the near future. do i play it, or just make transfers patiently as weather can become a factor soon an postpone matches anyway?

Regardless of your injury troubles, If you've still got it, it's probably a good time to use it. 8 weeks until the January W/C is available, you could sort out your team for these 8 weeks and make a bob or two - which should put you in a better position than your rivals for the rest of the year.

Go to the 'Flagging and Protection of Players' bit:

However - VDV was yellow flagged but didn't miss a game, but was yellow flagged for more than 2 days. FISO reckon that if a player is flagged for 2 days then he 'earns' the right for protection. But it's only a guess - they don't know for sure. So he'll either be price protected for the next week or so - or he may not be protected at all. Either way he won't go down in price for at least a couple of days, so you should be able to wait for more concrete news on his injury before pushing the button.

    Hi guys

just used my wildcard and this is what ive come out with:

    Hart (Foster)

    Evra-Ferdinand-Richards (Clark, Foley)

    Nani-Cahill-Nasri-Bale (Albrighton)

    Teves-Carrol-Chamakh

    any good?

what do you think i should change?

I would say watch out on Cahill, some people have rumoured that he may be suspended by the FA for a 'stamp' on Jara.
Also, Hart-Foster is too expensive in my opinion (unless possibly if you've had them in from the very start).
Richards is not subject to massive rotation risk.
Clark also may be depending on Villa's injury problems (I don't know enough to be honest!
Also, is Albrighton fit at the moment?
Chamakh is also a rotation risk with RVP and Bendtner fit.

Keep 1 of Ferd & Evra
          Kolarov instead of Richards
Cheap keeper instead of Foster or Someone like Begovic instead of Hart for good rotation option
Chamakh to likely to be rotated so look at other options

          IMO

Arteta's stamp got seen by the ref and got a red. Cahill did a sneaky scrape of the studs down Jara's achilles, ref missed it so the FA might look at it. Can't see anything happening, to be honest.

Team is currently (with 3.1 in the bank):
    AlHabsi-Foster
    Cashley-Elmo-Coleman-K.Toure-Simpson
    Nani-Brunt-Cahill-VDV-NZog
    Carroll-Elmander-Drogba

Not liking this and want to get Elmo, Coleman, VDV and Drogba out.
However, only have 1 free transfer and after a massive fail of an 8-point hit last week, want to avoid any hits. Should I take one of those out (probably Elmo for Kyrgiakos) or take out VDV for Kuyt? Plan to wait until Friday to make transfer but would like to plan ahead. Thanks

          ??? Your doing well then???

I bought him at 7.6 and I'd only get 8.0

          he's 8.5 isn't he?

kuyt for me is too hot/cold and the way liverpool are right now it's a bit risky. plus, woy seems content w/playing him wide right instead of up top behind torres where he's more of a threat since he links up well w/him- not sure about him, but he is on pens w/gerrard out.

Would you recommend Dunn over MGP?? What position did they play when rovers won 2-0 vs Villa? Is MGP playing off the striker?

Isn't he playing fairly deep? Like, nearly as deep as Jones?

Sorry, but best way to do it is:

              Gk GK
              Def Def Def Def Def
              Mid Mid Mid Mid Mid
              Fwd Fwd Fwd
              😉

Anyway, Nolan out, Bale, Gamst Pederson, Nzogbia or Brunt in

Don't be lazy. Write it out.

Advice: Nolan out. He's injured, off form and Newcastle have tough fixtures. Get MGP or N'Zogbia at a similar price range.

my opinion on vdv is try keep him in if u can but if u cant put in tim cahill if u have enough money for him otherwise stuarty downing is hitting form and he has ok fixtures

OK no-ones mentioned him and there's probably a good reason why! But spotting a differential before they hit everyone elses radar is a key part of this game so......any views on Kuyt given his fixtures and role as a replacement for VDV or Arteta? I'm seriously considering him.

        Evening all. Could someone please help with my team selection for this GW? Had a nightmare last weekend and I also have the VDV injury issue to contend with too. Line up is;

        Hart
        Samba/Konchesky/Kolarov (Cashley/Distin)
        Malouda/Nani/Lee/VDV (Adam)
        Tevez/Elmander/Carroll

Any thoughts as to who to transfer/bench etc would be appreciated. I have one freebie and 0.1 in the till. I was thinking of bringing in Pedersen. Thanks.

you could get rid of distin for a cheapy defender to free up some cash - everton look pretty insecure at the back. Pederson is a good idea

really troubled by drogba... I need to do VdV -> someone? do I do drogba -> rooney for 4 points? can't see it being worth it, but its difficult seeing all the profit down the drain, especially with man u having an easy game in gw 16... otherwise maybe I should just ride the Vdv storm?

        Attention: BankRun 2010.

I thought as many others that the movement initiated by Eric Cantona was spontaneous and naive and thought that I could hang myself to it in order to establish La Nouvelle Économie. After a Skype discussion with Géraldine Feuillien I came to the conclusion that it was a movement whose brain manipulator is still unknown but whose purpose is to establish an economic system probably fascist that will emerge by terror rather than a movement that will foster the economic interests of each of us.
