This week’s refresh of the Watchlist – our mid-term recommendation rankings – finds Man City’s assets dominating the top spots across the positions with a favourable run of opponents ahead.

Roberto Mancini’s side have suffered three draws in their last four outings but with Bolton, Everton, Villa and Blackpool all at Eastlands in the next six, City have the potential to reward investment in their offerings at both ends of the field.

Elsewhere, key figures at Blackburn and Liverpool, our other “Highs” from this week’s “Frisking the Fixtures“, are also tipped to recover from weekend disappointments to provide mid-price value over the coming weeks…

Joe Hart and Aleksander Kolarov find their way to the top of the Goalkeeper and Defender rankings respectively, with the fixtures form (2 goals conceded in the last 5) to offer returns going into the Christmas period.

Despite their 7-1 Old Trafford drubbing, Blackburn’s Paul Robinson and Chris Samba, along with cheap “out-of-position” prospect Phil Jones, all enjoy climbs this week. Rovers have conceded just 6 goals in 7 Ewood Park encounters and home fixtures with Wolves, West Ham and Stoke over the next four clearly offer potential.

Liverpool’s big Greek Sotirios Kyrgiakos is the high new entry in the Defender rankings, displacing team mates Paul Konchesky and Glen Johnson who drop out. We will bring you more on the potential offered by the imposing Kyrgiakos in a full Watchlist article tomorrow.

United’s Rafael is the other major new entry – he also ousts team mates in the rankings, nudging above Nemanja Vidic in our top five Defenders off the back of his value at just 5.6 in the Fantasy Premier League game.

In Midfield we see climbs into the top five for both Arsenal’s Samir Nasri (with form) and Blackburn’s Morten-Gamst Pedersen (with form and fixtures). Neither can topple Nani at the top however.

There’s little movement elsewhere with the likes of Tim Cahill, Gareth Bale and Matt Jarvis all holding firm. Rafael Van der Vaart obviously drops out as a result of his recent injury.

Up front we see significant climbs for both Darren Bent and Dimitar Berbatov (unsurprisingly) but Carlos Tevez and Newcastle’s Andy Carroll hold the top two slots. The Bolton pairing of Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies fall from grace as fixtures stiffen up on over the next six, while Robin Van Persie and Jermain Defoe stay bubbling under as they look to establish themselves following injuries.

As always, the rankings are subject to change on a daily basis but I’ve added a new “Updated” flag to alert you when things change. Notable drops, climbs and new entries will be highlighted in scribbles and articles.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

need advice on what transfer i should make with my team:

    foster carson
    konchesky COLEMAN dann shawX vidic
    VDV nani jarvis nzog nasri
    DROGBA carroll elmander

the players in caps are the players which i intend to get rid of. but im not intending to transfer all of them out this gw as im not lookin to do an 8 pt hit. so who is my first priority to remove first from my team?

VDV, as he's deffo not playing next week.

Drogs is not a total loss, ffs. He could come alive at any point ... so if you only want a one-trade week, I'd stick with VDV.

And if two trades, I'd likely drop Coleman second, unless you need the Drogs cash. But it seems you need the defender more, anyway.

Yeah i have i loved it i hope the part about his favourite thing being his spinning stabbed pass to irwin is his real life opinion because ive loved that pass for years. I love the part on wikipedia about him individually calling the members of a french football federation panel an idiot. I can just picture him calmly approaching each one in turn

He'll play, but I don't think he will be up for this one, considering he will worry about suffering a recurrance of his injury. Playing Wolves is never that exhilarating either.

Good question and potential MGP owners should consider his mindset before making the transfer.

Having a tough time picking one of these...

    Safe:
    Bale
    N'Zogbia

    Risks:
    Kuyt
    Lennon

Then throw MGP and Brunt (4 yellows) into of those categories

Of those 6, which looks like the best option through the Christmas period and into January?

Really thinking of taking a punt on Kuyt!

Not sure about Kuyt, mainly because Liverpool aren't that great, and Gerrard's return means he'll be off pens. I also don't like choosing players that aren't bonus point darlings. Those extra points have saved me so many weeks, and it's usually the same few players who get them.

MGP, Bale or Brunt for me as transfer options for VdV.

And this is for Adam by the way...

Not 100% if I want to get rid of him yet, but if the game is called off it's a no brainer.
      4 yellows
      crap fixtures
      no undersoil heating
      no goals from open play

Only thing he has are PK's and a ton of BP's

Between Bale and MGP I suppose, will look at Brunt once he gets a 5th yellow and serves his suspension.

Love MGP as a player, but never really rated him as an FPL prospect. Can't argue with his recent scores though, think he can keep it up? Great fixtures coming up...

Who would you transfer out for Kolarov? Coleman, Boateng or Salcido?

Could do a straight swap for Boateng, if Coleman/ Salcido then need to also remove Arteta this week for MGP/Zog/Bale (unsure). And take the 4 point hit.

Basically, I am really uncertain about Boateng's playing prospects. Not had a minute the last two games, and both Zabaleta & Richards have scored in those games.

When do you think Arteta's price would fall, speaking of?

While they can be annoying, I do love the fact that injuries occur and that they shake up the FPL game in a good way.

It means I can watch the VDV owners have to suffer -4's to get rid, I can borrow him for a couple of weeks when he's back fit, (GW20 and GW21), and I don't have to worry about his price and points total being astronomical at that stage.

The downside of injuries is that they seem to be reducing the options somewhat and there isn't a lot of promising players to replace these injured guys with.

Well you don't seem to take your defense too seriously, so I guess you could just stick.

I take my defence extremely seriously, and had it well thought out after my wildcard. My defenders rotated superbly so that I could play two each week up till January, all at home and in a decent fixture, and the remaining defender to always play was Evra.

Just had a bit of bad luck with Bramble getting injured, Steinsson not getting his place back after being suspended and Coleman getting dropped, (although I accept that this was ultimately inevitable so took the risk with Coleman).

Silva in for Arteta for me I think. And Dunn over Pedersen in for Barton. Silva out for VdV when he's back. Have a feeling about Silva.

    Would leave me with:

    Jarvis Nasri Dunn Nani Silva

Silva and Dunn you mean? Well I think it's a simple Dunn or Pedersen for most and then whoever they want to replace VDV/Arteta with. I don't see many better options than Silva, maybe it's just me though. No point getting in 53% Bale is there? Don't fancy Kuyt. Maybe Brunt or N'Zogbia.

It's not set in stone but they're my likely transfers.

Current team for coming weekend is..

    Robinsons (Foster)

    Kolarov/Vidic/Simpson (Foley, Coleman)

    Bale/VDV/Nani/Cahill (Nolan)

    Carrol/Rooney/Davies

looking to make the following changes over the next few weeks.. just need reassurance...

    VDV---> Nasri

    then when he's fit

    Cahill---> Gerrard

due to his leaving for the Aisa Cup soon

    Team this weekend atm is

    Foster (Krul)
Acole Jara Tamas (G. Cahill, Coleman)
    Nani Adam Morrison Nasri (Jarvis)
    Drogba Tevez Rooney (C)

I'll definitely be bringing in Nasri for VDV, so mentioned that there

now not sure on a couple of things --

    1. Bench Jarvis or Morrison? Morrison at home but not as key a player as Jarvis.. Wolves have their tails up but I fancy a Bburn CS after a 7-1 thrashing

    2. Take a -4 to bring in Kolarov for Coleman/Jara? or play both WBA defenders as they are home to Newcastle

    3. Take a -4 to bring in MGP/Brunt for Morrison

      1. Morrison. Jarvis might just nick a goal.

      2. Yep, bring Kolarov in for Tamas/Coleman.

      3. Both look good options, you could bench Jarvis then.

Only problem is, 2 or 3? Personally I see a massive haul for Kolarov and your defence is quite weak so I'd say 2.

You wouldn't be going wrong with 3 either though.

        Appreciate the detailed response

        1. Jarvis has not scored or assisted away from home all season. I've also noticed that teams which get thrashed one week (WBA 6-0 week 1, wigan 9-1 last year), go on to keep a CS the next week especialy if their game is at home, as the coaches tend to focus the week's training on defense .. plus Morrison has an assist+goal to his name at home and he is facing weaker opposition

        2. Man City play West Ham right after.. I am very very doubtful they could keep a CS.. I also think City will concede to Bolton, Bolton have not failed to score since week 1, can see 3-1 City, but Bolton will def get on the score sheet.. I see a more likely CS for WBA than Man City

I agree with you that my problems are in defense. I would rather bring in Kyrgiakos than Kolarov with his goal threat and BP magnet..

With regards Kolarov, he's 5.7, crazy attacking potential, playing for a top defence. Kyrgiakos is a good option also but I would strongly recommend getting Kolarov.

          Good point (Number 1) though.

Whats annoying is Tamas->Kolarov was my planned free transfer this week.. didn't count on VDV getting injured or Coleman getting tossed outta the team..

I would do it any other week if my WBA defenders weren't having one of their easiest fixtures of the year..

I can get in Kolarov the week after I think as I have no transfers pencilled in then

      Crazy ranking man nice job!

      1. I'd play Jarvis solely because he is more likely to score big, when Morrison highs of this season have been two 6-pointers. Not exactly prolific...

      2. People say don't take hits on defenders, but I disagree. If it's someone like Kolarov with great fixtures and in a solid defense, your hit should be repaid right away.

      3. A lot of love for WBA I see...in option 3 I wouldn't bring in Brunt because he's on 4 yellows at the moment
Once he serves his suspension I will definitely consider him.

Hope this helps mate...I have one question for you:
Bale or MGP? Been doing my head in!

Thanks for the response mate, hopefully I can get a green arrow soon

        1. I dont see Jarvis having a big score, at max he might get an assist.. I think I'm going Morrison purely for the reason that the Newcastle vs WBA game is a televised fixture and the Blackburn game is not.. I play FPL to make my TV viewing more enjoyable, not for money or anything

        2. Yeah I agree on the hits for defenders thing but I dont think it will be repaid this week, Bolton have scored in all but 1 of their games and City are looking to attack after their last 2 home draws.. plus Kolarov has WH away week after which I think is a tough fixture with Hammers tails up now

        3. Yeah I'm not keen on the hit to replace a MF, but it would allow me to bench Adam next week away to Stoke

Which brings me to your question
        Bale or MGP?

I think MGP HANDS DOWN... Bale has Bir away, Chelsea home.. can't see him doing as well as MGP, plus I think Lennon's form on the right flank and his partnership with Defoe will see Bale's returns diminish..

Alright thanks, thinking of doing Adam => MGP if the game is canceled this weekend.

I would still do the WBA defender to Kolarov...WBA have only kept 1 CS all season and Carroll is on a roll. Barton's return should help him out as well...

I'm gonna look at CS odds/heatmaps etc to make up my mind, I agree that its a good long term move as Kolarov is close to fixture proof and there will be a lot of rotation around the X mas period so a good bench is important..

WBA have conceded only 1 goal from a header this season, and that was last weekend to Tim Cahill

Question about ESPN Soccernet Gamecast - is it where the player had the ball? Also what do the red spots represent?

Looking at the heatmaps for some players I have been considering - MGP, Zog, Lennon, Modric, Bale and Silva. To be honest, I am most impressed by the Zog. Seems to have the ball a LOT, and only in attacking areas. After that, Modric also sees a lot of the ball. The rest less so.

Kolarov has some pretty crazy heat maps, more coverage in opposition half than own.

The 5 being Samba, Cole, Kolarov, Vidic & Konchesky

I reckon that looks stronger than having either Dempsey or Adam alongside Nani and Cahill. (VDV injured)

Fabregas wont play, therefore he should be your priority to trade... depending entirely upon when you bought him and the value lost etc...

Coleman might play, but against Chelsea there are unlikely to be any great rewards for him...

I reckon you should consider Fabs to Nasri for some Arsenal coverage at the weekend... or if not then Coleman to Kolarov, providing its a freebie, and hope for a cleanie and attacking returns

      Good luck...

      Jagi>Kolarov looks good.
I wouldn't be too worried about having your players facing each other. Best scenario for you is that ManC will beat Bolton 3-0 with Tevez scoring a hat-trick and Kolarov providing the assists, or Cole and Cahill each to score in a 1-1 draw.
