The penultimate results article for the third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, brings you news of who has made the grand final and how they did it. Of the two fixtures, one was closely-contested and one certainly was not…

Semi-Final One

tippman 78 – 48 DRP

Easing through to the final this week by a handsome 30 points was tippman. Even without Dimitar Berbatov he would have done the business, thanks to a ballsy decision to captain Frederic Piquionne. A fantastic score (despite a minus two point return from Sylvain Distin), earns Mark’s-conqueror a free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power, as well as a guaranteed £100 bet for turning up to next week’s final. That win for tippman shoots him up in the overall rankings to a season-high 4,759th. A welcome green arrow after five successive red.

Semi-Final Two

The Von 55 – 57 gooner dave

The second semi-final was a much tighter affair, with a combination of injuries and suspensions costing The Von a berth in the Grand Final. With a bench scoring a total of zero points, and transfers out accruing the same, a four-point hit was necessary for The Von. Unfortunately for him though, he was in the market for a defender in a week where every team conceded. Unlucky. Going through then is gooner dave, who will have to have the title of favourite as he is ranked 2,516th in the league.

So there’s two top-5k ranked fantasy managers in the Final, and that surely illustrates the calibre of performances required do well in this tournament, and whoever lifts the imaginary trophy next week will have truly earned it. So well done and good luck to both tippman and gooner dave. I’ll bring you a preview of the final tomorrow, as well a look at the 3rd place play-off.

Don't even mention Kuyt. I have vowed not to touch him this season. I've had him at some stage over the last couple of seasons and he never did anything. What a waste of space.

I want to hang on to Elmander, but I also want Tevez and Bent. I could get rid of Drogba but I'm going to give him another chance this weekend.

I think the cheapest best midfielder option is Tom Cleverley

    1. 3 games in the team on the bounce (wouldv’e been 5 but ineligible against Man Utd(parent club) and Arsenal (cup tied)

    2. Man Utd have already spoke of the possibililty of bringing him back in Jan and gving him a run in the team, 4.2m attacking midfielder, playing for Man Utd, wet dream!

    3. His stats for watford last year we’re mightily impressive: 11 goals in 33 games plus a load of assists.

    4. just scored in the premier league for wigan and appears to be taking his chance in the team well

    Thoughts?

Isn't Tony V set for a return in January? So when he's back, Nani will be relegated back to the left, and there won't be any chance for rutters like Cleverley.

I think January was written to sell papers. Much more likely Feb, and even then he'll be eased in. I think it'll be March/April till he's back to his best.

Absolutely. I see Park at his best in the centre using his immense stamina to harry teams, could've done with him last night in the engine room against Wet Spam. Don't think Nani's gonna relish going back to the left when Valencia is back either.

After his career is over, I wouldn't be surprised if the Rooney saga was a secret plot between Ferguson, Rooney and Gill in order to ensure Ferguson retires with a winning team and adequate replacements for Scholes and Giggs are aquired. It was a win, win, Rooney's thick-skinned enough to take a bit of flak and was going to be happy with a big contract and promise of future international team mates.

Just the views of a hopeful United fan...

Rooney is a genius if he's persuaded the Glazers to invest some proper cash in the team. Unfortunately that illusion is ruined somewhat when Rooney speaks. It's like his tongue and his phlegm are in a constant battle of supremacy.

Just plays better in my head that way probably, Ferguson's press conference got me thinking when he announced the saga. This defeatest, broken attitude had never been an approach he'd adopted in front of the media and thid led me to think of alternative theories why it may have been fabricated. Rooney signed a contract remarkably quickly when the glazers promised substancial team investment...

Fergie seemed pretty genuine in that interview. Things may well work out in the long run for all parties, but I fancy that's due to the parties actually talking properly after the event. I find it hard to believe the whole thing could have been prefabricated. It's all a bit too perfect.

sorry for the repost, advice would be appreciated:

    my front 8:

    cahill/nani/VDV/nzog/brunt
    drog/elmander/carroll

    my question:

is it worth taking a 4 point hit to replace VDV (possibly with nasri) or would you play the other 7 and bench VDV? i would bench elmander or cahill if i replaced VDV.

If VDV is out for 4 weeks, I think it's worth getting rid.

After this week Bolton have some pretty sensual fixtures.

I captained Elmander last week too and wanted to get shot after that but i think it's probably prudent to keep him through those fixtures imo.

That said, Carlos has some pretty tasty fixutres too.

I'm looking at both of these players as well as Bale to replace my missing midfield trio of VDV, Fabregas and Arteta. The thing that is edging it for me at the moment is that most of my rivals above me in mini-league already have Bale and Nasri. I need to take risks now. MGP looks as good as any to me. About half certain it will backfire though.

I've got MGP already and can't wait to see how he goes over the next few weeks, but yeah, Nasri doesn't do it for me...

I'm more inclined to go for a Chelsea player, like Malouda or the returning Essien who left on a high before he got red carded. Chelsea are going to be close to full strength soon with some big names returning, but it's a gamble based on their recent form...

If you haven't got Nani, Cahill or N'Zogbia they're all worth considering, but keep in mind that Cahill is only good for another couple of weeks with the asian cup coming up.

Ok so last week I took a rather foolish punt on Chamakh->Elmander(c) - that'll be the last time I do anything so risky, team is currently:

    Robinson (Krul)
    Konchesky Kolarov Coleman (Elmo Dann)
    Nani(c) Malouda Cahill Bale
    Carroll Drogba Elmander

    5.2 in bank.

I'm thinking Elmander->Tevez (tho I'll wait until after the europa league game) as City have great fixtures, but I'm worried about the defence, Coleman and Elmo just aren't getting the starts. I don't want to take a hit to replace a defender but I keep putting off the transfer. Any suggestions on who to bring in for either Elmo or Coleman?

Elmander - Tevez does make sense, but why did you bring Elmander in for just 1 game?

Elmo (or Coleman) to Rafael, maybe (if the Utd v Blackpool game is still on)? Blackburn have good fixtures coming up, but you already have Robbo - Samba can grab you a goal as well, so consider him.

FA said ref had seen the incident, so there's no chance of a suspension now.

Asian Cup starts 7 Jan, the Aussies want him for a training camp beforehand, from mid-Dec, but Moyes will hold on to him for as long as possible. Cahill won't just disappear, I think (hope) we'll get some advance warning.

        Cheers!

With the actual Cup starting Jan 7th, and together with FA's statement, we can quell this "Cahill might blah blah" truism that has been floating about here.

No suspension (ref saw it and did nothing)

Will be going to the Asian Cup as late as Moyes can hold on to him! Hopefully after Xmas, but may be before

obese sam said he was 90% fit for the man utd game but he didn't want to risk him with a lot of games coming up in december. so he's basically guarenteed a start.
