Jamie Carragher’s 450th Premier League appearance was definitely one to forget last Sunday, with the centre-half suffering a dislocated shoulder in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. His replacement Sotirios Kyrgiakos may have been on the end of a rollicking from Carragher for being slow to get warmed up to replace him, but with the Liverpool vice-captain now reportedly sidelined for up to three months and a long-lasting calf injury still keeping Daniel Agger out of the running, you can be sure that the big Greek will be ready and raring to go in this unexpectedly prolonged run at the heart of Roy Hodgson’s defence.

It is the Reds favourable upcoming fixtures (AVL, new, FUL, blp, WOL, BOL) that make Kyrgiakos such a particularly alluring prospect. After a torrid start to the season Liverpool have finally -albeit at a stuttering rate- started to climb the Premier League table and Hodgson must surely see a promising pre-2011 run as the perfect opportunity to get their season back on course and draw a line through what has been a problematic year for the Anfield men.

At a colossal 6ft 4in, Kyrgiakos is always an aerial threat and has scored two goals in just six games so far this season, finding the net in both his Anfield league appearances. With the club still awaiting Fernando Torres’ bravura performance, Joe Cole having a frustrating period with form and niggling injuries and Steven Gerrard temporarily sidelined, they will rely on the lofty Greek to be a menace in the box at every given set piece.

Priced at just £5.1 million on the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Kyrgiakos could be the ideal bargain defender to allow you to spend your budget on a big money move in midfield or attack. Also something of a Bonus Points magnet, he’s been awarded the maximum three points on two out of his five full appearances, which -considering the current lack of clean sheets knocking about- perhaps gives him the nod over similarly-priced team mates Paul Konchesky and Martin Skrtel for anyone considering Liverpool defensive cover.

His Fantasy ownership, a mere 1.1%, only adds to Kyrgiakos’ appeal, suggesting he could well just turn out to be the perfect “differential” over the next few Gameweeks as the season heats up for the Christmas period.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    Vdv -> Brunt regardless (will deal will 5 card suspension if and when)

    then depending on cancellation news either

    1) Coleman -> Kyrgiagos
    2) Varney -> Berbs
    3) Varney -> Bent
    4) nothing, so no 4pt hit

      Big Q I suppose is VDV-->Gamst or Brunt.

      I don't have the "luxury" of that trsfr and first need to dump coleman/Elmo. Hopefully by gw 18 there will be more clarity on Brunt's 5 yellows.

      I'm assuming one of your Nani's is Nasri - if so you've a good enough mid/attack even with VDV on the bench - so I'd lose one of Coleman or Elmo for a better defence. Shawx and Jara aren't a great combo but don't look too bad for this week, so you'll be able to filed an OK back 3.

              I say wait. I trust the Metro/Guardian more than Goal.com - but both the Metro and Guardian articles were written before VDVs scan - so they are also speculation at best. Only the club knows the full story - but the Spurs official site is silent so maybe Spurs are playing their cards close to their chest, or waiting on further tests.

          SuperDunny is with you man! But i would have waited for tomorrow to be sure.

          It would be so typical to read Allardyce's pre match comments and hear "Dunny got a little knock in training today so we're not sure on him for tomorrow"

          Assuming that isn't the case though i'll be getting Dunny too.

    Pondering the VDV replacement like everyone else. What do people think about MGP vs Brunt, almost identical fixtures coming up, sl worried if MGP is fully fit and if he can keep scoring, seems to get many fewer assists than Brunt.

              ??????

              All but won it? Considering the amount of setbacks the bid has suffered it's a miracle we're still even in with a chance TBH....

              If we win it will be due to other bids choking at the final hurdle (Spain's shit video and Putin/Medvdev not turning up)

      He'll need somewhere in the region of 110k transfers out if he's to drop another 0.1 before Saturday - currently 6k out today so this is looking unlikely, even with the customary Friday rush. Chances are he'll go to 8.3 on Saturday night and, worst case, 8.2 the week after. Selling at 8.1 doesn't look like too bad an option, though - not a great loss.

    New to this site but all the info is great!! nobody else in our league knows about it. After using the site ime now second only 1 point of the top(Happy days). Thinking of taking out Defoe & putting in Balotelli due to City being at home and he looked impressive last night, any thoughts?
