Jamie Carragher’s 450th Premier League appearance was definitely one to forget last Sunday, with the centre-half suffering a dislocated shoulder in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. His replacement Sotirios Kyrgiakos may have been on the end of a rollicking from Carragher for being slow to get warmed up to replace him, but with the Liverpool vice-captain now reportedly sidelined for up to three months and a long-lasting calf injury still keeping Daniel Agger out of the running, you can be sure that the big Greek will be ready and raring to go in this unexpectedly prolonged run at the heart of Roy Hodgson’s defence.

It is the Reds favourable upcoming fixtures (AVL, new, FUL, blp, WOL, BOL) that make Kyrgiakos such a particularly alluring prospect. After a torrid start to the season Liverpool have finally -albeit at a stuttering rate- started to climb the Premier League table and Hodgson must surely see a promising pre-2011 run as the perfect opportunity to get their season back on course and draw a line through what has been a problematic year for the Anfield men.

At a colossal 6ft 4in, Kyrgiakos is always an aerial threat and has scored two goals in just six games so far this season, finding the net in both his Anfield league appearances. With the club still awaiting Fernando Torres’ bravura performance, Joe Cole having a frustrating period with form and niggling injuries and Steven Gerrard temporarily sidelined, they will rely on the lofty Greek to be a menace in the box at every given set piece.

Priced at just £5.1 million on the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Kyrgiakos could be the ideal bargain defender to allow you to spend your budget on a big money move in midfield or attack. Also something of a Bonus Points magnet, he’s been awarded the maximum three points on two out of his five full appearances, which -considering the current lack of clean sheets knocking about- perhaps gives him the nod over similarly-priced team mates Paul Konchesky and Martin Skrtel for anyone considering Liverpool defensive cover.

His Fantasy ownership, a mere 1.1%, only adds to Kyrgiakos’ appeal, suggesting he could well just turn out to be the perfect “differential” over the next few Gameweeks as the season heats up for the Christmas period.

Has it been confirmed how long VDV is out for?

If I was to trade him out it would be for Bale, but not sure if Coleman to Samba will yield more points this GW?

The thing swaying me to bring Kuyt in is the fact that Gerrard is back after one more game. I think Liverpool could kick on, I was impressed with them at Spurs.

So gone up 3? If he drops to 8.4 you are still up by 0.2 on purchase price, so 8.3 selling value. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Not many reasons really, feel like MGP has had his run and can't see him keeping it up and like someone else has said, two of his four goals have been very dodgy. Dunn is like fantasy gold if he keeps fit, big if I know but I'll take that risk. Just personal preference overall, he did well for me last year I think.

Has anyone watched many City games so far? I am wondering wether i should take a chance on Balotelli for this gameweek over Tevez. It seems to me that, when he does play, Tevez' points hauls seem quite diminished.

Do they play different roles when they are both on the pitch, or is this just coincidental and should I go with Tevez instead?

is this suspension tightrope really something to be so worried about? after 5 yellows, each player will serve a one match ban, correct? it seems players such as Tevez, Adam, Brunt will typically be held for long term, so missing one match won't be such a big deal (compared to selling a player since he's 1 card away from suspension) but I guess this is more important to consider when looking to purchase the player...

No one can say that a particular player is 'set to drop to 3.9 in the next couple of weeks', since any price drop will be indicative of that players points returns over the next two weeks, and it may turn out that that player scores well and they don't drop.

Does Barlotteli playing today mean hes likely to be rested at the weekend?

And Viera has a cheek , critisising his workrate , he there to score goals

I wouldnt wish to ruin the chances of smaller clubs making it into the premiership but i think it should be compulsory as of next season to have undersoil heating. Maybe the f.a could loan clubs without it the money to get it upon promotion..?

I think it's quite good to have a few games cancelled due to the snow. It might screw us over during the next 5 or 6 gameweeks, but any cancellations will affect everyone roughly the same, (particularly due to the similar line-ups that people have), and the newly created double gameweeks in the second half of the season will allow all of us on here to gain a competitive advantage over our mini-league rivals, as we can totally abuse the double weeks and have our players involved in more matches.

Deathangel you are the messiah. Scrap my previous comment. My nearest rival is not bright enough to take advantage of double gameweeks so bring on more cancellations!

          Thanks, I know. 😉

And with such an unpredictable season keeping mini-league's uncomfortably tight at the moment, we need all the help we can get, and these potential double gameweeks provide us with another avenue to exploit.

Of course they can take advantage of them as well, but the reality is that any rivals that you have that just do transfers based on a players recent points scores, rather than any future DGW's on the horizon, will lose out.

If you have decent rivals, then they will try to take advantage of these DGW's, but may not do such a good job if they don't plan in time; and any poor rivals you have that are fortuitously close to you right now, will fall by the wayside once the DGW's come round.

Any Rovers fans out there? What's this that I keep reading about a new role for MGP, and that he's playing more centrally, and that it is this that increases his goal and assist threat?

If he's playing in a different role to last season, then surely we can ignore his mediocre returns from last season and the season before, when he was in a less offensive area of the field, and view his recent form as more indicative of the near future.

New role? He played there the final few months of last season and has just continued this season. I suspect he'll be there again on Saturday in central midfield probably with Emerton. Will be interesting to see who Allardyce sacrifices to play MGP and Dunn, might be Jones

Frank Lampard, please can you get fit soon as this whole saga is getting boring now; you're turning into a 12 million version of David Dunn/Jonathan Woodgate/Rafael Van der Vaart/etc with constant injuries and recurrances of said injuries.

I hope that Coleman DOESN'T start this week, Everton then get hammered and then Coleman gets his place back for the Wigan game.

That's what I want to happen, and it's certainly better than Coleman playing this week, performing poorly in a 3-0 defeat, and then Moyes turfs him out of the starting line-up again for the next match.

The protection thing has been very uncertain this season. I think if the volume of sales is concentrated in a short period of time they generally go down if theyve gradually reached the 100%+ point they are less likely to fall

Sorry that is my theory acting under the assumption the protection thing cant be relied on. It is not my theory of how the protection works. You really have got issues if you cant just have a conversation with someone. Instead of behaving in a patronising way that your position doesnt justify

For what it's worth, I think the whole will he/wont he be protected issue depends on the length of time that the player in question was flagged/injured for...

That cant be right because players who have been flagged/injured for ages drop/rise if the sales/purchases come in abundance over a short period of time and the same happens if they have been flagged/injured for a short while. Moving away from the protection issue. My theory is that if a player goes to 100% falls/rises very quickly they'll definitely drop if it happens slowly they have to go beyond 100% before a value change. Van der vaart will drop in my opinion. I guess my original post for which you hold such derision was admittedly out of context, i was simply using the guys question about vdv as a vechicle for voicing my theory

Is it not simply that his protection was cancelled when he played on Sunday before getting injured ?

You don't get protected for being red flagged ??

He was protected for his previous yellow flag ?
