Our Watchlist player rankings have once again been updated for the coming Gameweek, offering you a view on our current thinking when it comes to mid-term player selection.

It’s a steady week with the top positions all holding firm across the board, with contrasting fortunes for Man City’s assets as Aleksandar Kolarov, Yaya Toure and David Silva enjoy high placings, while Carlos Tevez drifts in limbo, out of our current thinking. Tim Cahill is another of our previously high ranking players suffering this week – he drops out with the Asian Cup in January depriving us of his talents beyond the next couple of Gameweeks…

The top three in the Goalkeeper’s rankings hold firm as fixtures continue to fall in favour of Joe Hart, Paul Robinson and Pepe Reina. A host of new entries threaten their position, with Wigan’s Ali Al Habsi the highest of the bunch off the back of his impressive shut-out at Goodison and good fixtures to come; his price point also gives him the edge over rivals Heurelho Gomes, Robert Green and Scott Carson. The big two – Edwin Van der Sar and Petr Cech suffer drops are sandwiched in that pack, along with long-term favourite Ben Foster who faces a stiff run of opposition in the coming weeks – although he does have three home encounters in the next four to provide some comfort for his owners.

The Defender rankings also remain stable at the top with Liverpool’s Sotirios Kyrgiakos holding his position with kind home opponents and a significant goal threat. City’s Aleksandar Kolarov comes straight back into our top five following his one-match suspension – he too benefits from obliging opponents in the forthcoming Gameweeks. Leighton Baines, Chris Samba and the value presented by United’s Rafael, complete our current top five.

A second Liverpool defender presents a big money gamble – Glen Johnson doesn’t carry the set-piece threat of team-mate Kyrgiakos, but will likely be key attacking threat down the right over Liverpool’s three Anfield clashes in the next four. Like Kyrgiakos, he could well have a goal or two in him, but with assists thrown in.

Wigan’s Antolin Alcaraz, Tottenham’s Alan Hutton and West Brom’s Gonzalo Jara offer value further down the rankings with climbs and new entries this week. All three have promising runs of opponents to come, with some attacking potential on offer.

The Midfield to five stays intact, with the exception of Everton’s Tim Cahill who drops out of mid-term reckoning with the Asian Cup tournament in January, giving him just two more matches to come in the forthcoming month or so.

Nani continues to lead the way with some level of consistency in his scoring these days. City’s pairing of Yaya Toure and David Silva both rank highly below him. Toure is a new entry off the back of his goal/assist/Bonus return in the win over West Ham, which, with an FPL price tag of just 5.2, gives him the edge of team-mate Silva. The Spaniard simmers below the top five following his assist at Upton Park; both enjoy a kind run of opponents over the next six. Charles N’Zogbia’s fixtures also appear to give him a platform for his usual stream of steady returns with Bonus Points thrown in – he is another climber this week.

A host of new entries follow, as the likes of Frank Lampard and Cesc Fabregas all come back into our thinking following injury. Expect climbs for them next week once we see them established back in first team action this weekend. Steven Gerrard and Rafael Van der Vaart are still very much injury doubts – they could make an appearance later this week when we have more news on their progress prior to the weekend.

Up front, Fernando Torres holds the top spot, despite failing to ignite at St James’ Park. The three Anfield matches in the next four should give him the potential to return and is enough to hold off a significant charge from Darren Bent, who also has a strong run of opponents to aid his points tally.

Jermain Defoe and Wayne Rooney occupy their highest positions of the season, kept in fourth and fifth by Andy Carroll’s consistency. Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega offers value, along with West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie – only an injury doubt prevents him from pushing on further up the rankings. The Bolton pairing of Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies suffer big drops – they will face Sunderland, Liverpool and Chelsea in the next four Gameweeks – that’s three of the current top five defences, all away from home.

Carlos Tevez remains out of our current rankings while we wait more news from Eastlands on his situation. Expect him to rank very highly if we get confirmation of his availability for the Everton clash on Monday. The Watchlist will be updated once we know more on him later this week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Kolarov, Vidic, Coleman
    Nani, Nasri (C), Bale, T.Cahill, J.Morrison
    Rooney, Tevez, Carroll

    (Carson, Foley, J.Morrison, Simpson)

Any transfers needed or should I just hold off this week and save 2 for next week?

    Correct bench and order?

Reuters is reporting that a major reason Tevez wants to leave Man C because they missed the Champs League this season.

Aye so now he's pictured in the papers with his arm round random blondes, the story immediately changes. Thinking about Tevez and his jackal advisers gives me the shivers.

          +1

Can't FIFA just ban third party ownership of players? Surely 'owning' the economic rights of a person can't be right.

'In the register of directorships at Companies House in London Joorabchain gives two nationalities, Canadian and British, as well as two names, Kia Joorabchian and Kia Kavash, and two dates of birth, 14 July 1971 and 25 July 1971'

I have to deal with Companies House as part of my job, I'm pretty sure it's illegal have 2 dates of birth registered with them. Seriously dodgy.

                    How old is Tevez... 26?

Unfair to blame this all on Kia Joorabchian. It's the same when people blamed Paul Stretford, Rooney's manager, for Rooney doing what he did.

These are grown men, they are free to make their own decisions, plain and simple. I think people are quick to blame agents, because they want to hold onto a false belief that players are loyal, it's not them it's the nasty agents.

Nonsense, Tevez does what Tevez wants do do. He gets his agent to help him.

It has come to the point where I think people don't care anymore, how many "advisors" does he have, not forgetting the "sources close to Tevez" or "a close family friend of Tevez' father" crap.

Manager Roberto di Matteo has not completely ruled out the 29-year-old Nigeria international but accepts he is unlikely to face Mick McCarthy's men at The Hawthorns.

Di Matteo told the club's website: "Peter's still doubtful. He's still injured and hasn't trained yet this week.

"It is a little calf strain that is causing the problem and I'm not very hopeful on him at the moment.

"If Peter's not back for this game, he'll hopefully be back for the next one."

Hey all you gamblers. If 100 people enter a competition and there are 10 prizes (and you can only win once) what are the odds for each person getting a prize?

    I know there is 1 in 100, 1 in 99 ... 1 in 91, but I can't remember how to add them up.

it depends if all the prizes are being drawn at the same time.

if its say, one every week, then of course, the chances of winning go down faster relative to the numbers drawn.

We can get bogged down in semantics and stochastic processes, but if you keep it simple, it works out simpls.

I think he means that once you've won one prize, you cannot win another. If you do not win the first prize, you are left in a pool of 99 people. If you do not win again, you are left in a pool of 98 people and so on, until all 10 prizes have been given away. So the odds of getting a prize are 1/100 + 1/99 + 1/98 ... + 1/91 = 0.1048

        not quite.

in simplest terms, 10 people win and 90 people lose = 1 in 10.

by your method it would be...
        1/100 + (99/100)*(1/99) + (98/100)*(1/98) + (97/100)*(1/97) +... = 0.1 exactly

you ignore the fact that you have to lose the first one to have the 1/99 chance of the second one.

        Really overcomplicates matters

Soop asked about the 'odds' and not the 'probability', these are both different.

For instance, the odds of choosing a random day of the week as a Sunday is 6/1, (or 1/6), but the probability of choosing a random day as Sunday is 1/7 or a seventh.

So in Soop's example, the probability of randomly getting a prize is 10/100, but the odds would be 10/90, as the total of the numerator and denominator must equal the total of all possible outcomes which is 100.

Gotcha. If you toss a coin, the odds of it landing heads are evens (1/1). The probability of it landing heads is 0.5 (1/2).

Has anyone thought about when (which week) they will use their January WC? Are there a group of fixtures one week that look good to aim for or is it just best to wait until the last week once all the transfers are complete?

Perhaps around the double GW on Week24?

Been thinking about this for price rises too. Think it might be better used early doors because if you wait, im guessing there will loads of price rises and you may miss out on players you want.

Might be worth using it after 24 (if u can) to get rid of unwanted DGW players.

"You can play 2 transfer wildcards a season. One wildcard can be played at anytime, the other can only be used between Gameweeks 23 and 27. This extra wildcard will be available after the start of Gameweek 22 (4 Jan 19:30) up to the Gameweek 27 deadline (12 Feb 11:30). All transfers made in the Gameweek your wildcard is played will be without points deduction. You play your wild card when confirming transfers."

I'd keep Davis as Sund have a reshuffled back 4
Konchesky may be a better option as rotation for Krgi soon.
But not sure on your keepers as Gordon may be out still and Krul away??

        Play3-4-3 0r 3-5-2 if tevez is out

Insane, Everton could easily score, and they beat City 2-0 at Eastlands last season.

but this season they've got kolarov and balotelli !! he's a demon down the left flank....

other options of nasri and torres could result in 4 at least this way im guarteteed 12 points 😀

You might be 'guaranteed' a double 6, but surely you will be hoping for more than that from your captain, and Nasri and co. could easily score higher than 6 points.

Even if he does, he then loses his OOP value, and most people that are taking the game seriously have already sold him now and so if they were to get a Sunderland defender, they may as well get Bardsley.

My thoughts too. Annoying, as I lost patience on Saturday and sold him, but as you say. will be at left back and part of a reshuffled defence that my not be so solid

Yeah, if Elmo plays in defence, he just becomes a 'normal' Sunderland defender then, and has no real stand-out features over the cheaper Bardsley, or even Bramble and Turner once they're back.

In fact keeping away from the Sunderland backline over Christmas is probably a good idea with all the injuries they have.

I brought in Balotelli as a 1 week placeholder for Tevez last GW. Then Tevez has his mental. Meanwhile, Balotelli plays poorly, gets a yellow out of pure petulance and walks straight down the tunnel past the only person with the least sympathy for him. Will Balotelli play Monday or is it worth bringing Tevez back ? Suppose it's down to the conversation Tevez has with Mancini on Friday. Didn't count on this drama when I made the transfer last Friday . . .

Why can't both Tevez AND Balotelli play? You may as well keep him for another week unless you have no other pressing transfers.

Yes, I may just let the drama play out a bit, hang on to Balotelli and bring on Brunt for Ethrington.

Basically, Balotelli should play, particularly as he isn't playing in the Europa League on Thursday. And I don't think Balotelli's place has any bearing on whether Tevez plays or not. If Tevez doesn't play, it will just allow AJ or Milner to get back into the team.

I guess my thought was that Balotelli was so poor and such a jack a** that Mancini might sit him. If Mancini confirms Tevez as starting on Friday, then I will probably swap him back in for Balotelli.
