With defensive injuries stacking up, Steve Bruce’s Sunderland will be looking to combat their frailties at the back by scoring plenty of goals at the opposite end of the pitch. Darren Bent’s proven pedigree is set to spearhead much of the team’s attacking play as they look to build on their current position of 7th in the Premier League.

Looking at Sunderland’s upcoming fixtures (BOL, mun, BLP, BLA, avl, NEW) you would expect the Black Cats to feel confident, particularly ahead of the Stadium of Light encounters; Bent surely looks likely to add to his 7 goal tally for the season over the Christmas period.

Fantasy Mangers will be considering their attacking options right now as uncertainty looms over the troubled Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov attempts to edge back into the United starting lineup at Stamford Bridge. Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres are yet to ignite and look somewhat of a gamble, so, as Fantasy Managers hunt for a guaranteed goalscorer to complement the mid-price potential of Andy Carroll and Johan Elmander – Darren Bent stands out as a strong option.

Priced at £8.6 million in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Bent is far from unobtainable at a time when many Fantasy Managers have cash to burn as the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Rafael Van der Vaart and Frank Lampard limp back into the reckoning.

The form of Danny Welbeck and Asamoah Gyan is a consideration and will keep Bent on his toes. Indeed, Chairman Niall Quinn has only recently commented on the competition for places up front…

“Danny Welbeck’s put a spanner in the works, and it won’t be long before Fraizer Campbell’s back from injury. He was on fire this summer, and we thought he’d have a really good year. It’s healthy competition, and hopefully all four of them can bounce off each other for the next few months, and we can have a strong finish to the season.”

But with Welbeck able to operate on the right-wing and Gyan often benched, Bent’s position as the club’s principal striker has been established and he should be considered an almost dead-cert to be in the starting XI.

With a stuttering International career for England, blighted by bad luck, Bent will be hoping to build up some decent form going into the next batch of Euro 2012 qualifiers in the New Year. He could be the perfect reliable source of points over Christmas, as Fantasy Mangers look to bring some stability to their lineups in an unpredictable season.

Depends on who else you have. I think MGP is just going to have one of those seasons when he scores well all year.

If they were both defenders then I'd say YaYa, but I think I'd rather have Gamst Pedersen in my midfield.

I'd wait a bit first. Fabs probably gets injured as soon as Arsenal's good fixtures come around again.

Lamps is less injury prone and should be back on penalty duty, so he may be the better horse to ride long term. But, again, he may need several weeks to get back to any sort of form.

GW 20 may be too soon back for either of them though. And, to be honest with you, there are plenty of worthy alternatives you can field in your team for now while you wait and see how it develops for those two midfield giants.

Also to note, read in the local rag last week that they had bought a 2nd set of covers now also, so that should help.

Karl Oysten is meeting with people regarding undersoil heating but it likely won't happen unless Blackpool stay up.

Stoke at home shouldn't be too tricky, should it?

Bosingwa out sounds reasonable, I would do the same if it wasn't for the hits.

what does "severe weather warning" mean in Eire? I mean, temperature-wise and so?

We'll be having about -5/-10 c and some snow here in Stockholm, nothing unusual about that. One thing I've noticed watching the telly is that you British folks seldom wear warm hats - why is that? A warm hat is the best garment when it's cold.

I hope I make myself understood, I never can find the right words writing English.

Its because in stockholm it actually gets cold on a regular basis enough to require wearing winter clothing in england the weather is totally random so you could end up looking a tit lol just fooling round because im bored dont take me seriously on this

The country goes into chaos when theres a bit of snow

Going to be -2 tonight, and gonna get worse later on in the week...

The cold doesn't bother me to much i enjoy driving around in it with a bit of snow and wrapping up

maybe people are scared of hat hair

Yeah, probably the hat hair that scares people. Swallow your pride, people, it is nicer to be warm! 🙂

Snow is NICE, I love to see all the trees wrapped in white. Here in Sweden it gets dark so freakin' early in the winter time, the snow lights up the landscape a bit.

I should come over and sell you proper winter clothing. 🙂 You gotta dress in layers and wear a wind-proof jacket. Fleece under that jacket is perfect. And don't forget the scarf!

I'll stop nagging about the weather now. (It's evere Swede's favorite topic, you know!) 🙂

To answer your question ... I always wear a hat! Because I'm bald and a Brit living in Germany. It's certainly colder in winter here than the UK, but strangely, also hotter in summer.

The reason the UK falls apart when it freezes is simply down to £$£$£$£$£$£. In Sweden, like Germany, you know it will snow and freeze every year so you plan in advance. In the UK it might snow and it might freeze. Or it might be the warmest winter on record. It costs serious money to buy, and particularly store, tons and tons of salt and grit. Which might never be used. Councils only have so much money to spend, so go with what they expect, rather than the unexpected.

Severe weather warning in ireland means its fairly cold -8/-12 true but also the country's infrastructure is so poor and is generally not adequate to cope with the snow etc so general public be careful.

VDV/Bent or Malouda/Elmander. Just wondering if Malouda's game might finally pick up now Lampard is back. Or is it time to face facts and move on?
