With defensive injuries stacking up, Steve Bruce’s Sunderland will be looking to combat their frailties at the back by scoring plenty of goals at the opposite end of the pitch. Darren Bent’s proven pedigree is set to spearhead much of the team’s attacking play as they look to build on their current position of 7th in the Premier League.

Looking at Sunderland’s upcoming fixtures (BOL, mun, BLP, BLA, avl, NEW) you would expect the Black Cats to feel confident, particularly ahead of the Stadium of Light encounters; Bent surely looks likely to add to his 7 goal tally for the season over the Christmas period.

Fantasy Mangers will be considering their attacking options right now as uncertainty looms over the troubled Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov attempts to edge back into the United starting lineup at Stamford Bridge. Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres are yet to ignite and look somewhat of a gamble, so, as Fantasy Managers hunt for a guaranteed goalscorer to complement the mid-price potential of Andy Carroll and Johan Elmander – Darren Bent stands out as a strong option.

Priced at £8.6 million in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Bent is far from unobtainable at a time when many Fantasy Managers have cash to burn as the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Rafael Van der Vaart and Frank Lampard limp back into the reckoning.

The form of Danny Welbeck and Asamoah Gyan is a consideration and will keep Bent on his toes. Indeed, Chairman Niall Quinn has only recently commented on the competition for places up front…

“Danny Welbeck’s put a spanner in the works, and it won’t be long before Fraizer Campbell’s back from injury. He was on fire this summer, and we thought he’d have a really good year. It’s healthy competition, and hopefully all four of them can bounce off each other for the next few months, and we can have a strong finish to the season.”

But with Welbeck able to operate on the right-wing and Gyan often benched, Bent’s position as the club’s principal striker has been established and he should be considered an almost dead-cert to be in the starting XI.

With a stuttering International career for England, blighted by bad luck, Bent will be hoping to build up some decent form going into the next batch of Euro 2012 qualifiers in the New Year. He could be the perfect reliable source of points over Christmas, as Fantasy Mangers look to bring some stability to their lineups in an unpredictable season.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

yeah, i've managed to get etherington in twice this season and have so far avoided any of his big returns. no doubt if i take him out for brunt this w/e he'll score a bundle...

    Jones, Kolarov, Greek,

    Bale, Nani, Nasri, Jarvis

    Drogba, Torres, Elmander

    Subs: Foster, Coleman, Simpson, Etherington
Secondly, I think I am going to hold off on a transfer, correct decision?

im sorry did you watch that game???

i did he was pants..the holdens goal was a quick finish thanks to kevin davies flick on which elmander had no part in

elmander was playing exceptionally deep making terrible tackles and had no hand in anything

and the red card came late in the game but blackburn were waisteful in there attacks having about 10 corners/freekicks in the space of minutes

well my midfield is brunt nani nasri nzog hunt.

i would say that getting brunt, coming up to congested fixtures is probably the wrong option- cos he's bound to get a yellow. Mind you,. i think he'll look for the yellow this week so di matteo can drop him for the away game. You mightnt have played him anyway, so then he becomes an option.

my advice would be yaya toure for a punt.

hes playing well, and though theres a risk he might be a bit deeper with de jong suspended, barry might cover that spot. Toure has good fixtuires.

I do mean of course get him in for adam- ( i had Adam for ten weeks, great buy) adams fixtures are at risk now with the weather, for the forseeable, so look to get him back in maybe around double gameweek if at all mate.

I got him a couple of weeks ago when they were playing West Ham and was gutted he didn't do anything. I'd get rid of him if his upcoming games were tough, but they should...shoulddddd be easy games so fingers crossed!

Anyone care to guess whether Yaya Toure will continue to play as advanced as he did last game?

I know he may well play deeper this coming game, due to De Jong being banned, but after that, if both Tevez and Balotelli are up front, will he drop back again?

I'd guess that as long as everyone's available yaya will continue to be the most advanced of a midfield 3. Been that way all season.

Milner will come in to make the midfield 3 and IMO Yaya will stay as the most advanced of the 3. Why would Mankini change it.

      I'm thinking about this too...

Long term, it seems as though Mancini is set on the midfield trio of De Jong, Barry and Toure - obviously with Toure in the most advanced role.

The only issue I have is this weekend where I there is a chance that he'll be playing in a much deeper role, which would obviously affect his attacking potential. Granville makes a decent point about Mancini possibly not wanting to move Yaya after his recent form, but every time so far that one of De Jong/Barry has missed out, Toure has been deeper and Milner has played in the most advanced role.

Or maybe Zabaleta will play at DM and Milner will stay on the bench where he belongs... Who knows?!

      I like A best.

Its debatable whether any of the others are actually upgrades and personally I don't think any of them, except possibly the Tevez move, are.

However, a Man City defender you can play every week, with attacking potential, should be seen as an upgrade over a Newcastle defender in anyone's book.

The student should hire a lawyer to represent him (the man who represents himself will have a fool for a client) - then he has not won his first case, his lawyer has won the case. He should then counter-sue the teacher for vexatious litigation.

Rival has 3 Blackpool players, and also has Bosingwa. Coleman is there to, he isn't exactly a good option this week. Lets just hope the Blackpool game is off ay? Mind you he has two freebies.

So here is my team. Need changes to it?

    Foster (Jaask)
    A.Cole Samba Kolarov (Hutton, Jara)
N'Zogbia Nasri (C) Nani Dunn (VDV)
    Torres Carroll Elmander

1 Free transfer, maybe Get rid of Elmander? Mind you the Sunerland away fixture isn't the worst, given his scoring record away from home, and then next week WBA (H), so will want him for that. Was thinking maybe Hutton -> Kyrgiakos, but then I wouldn't know who to play in defence and Blackpool (A) next week is not good really, always in danger of a postponement. So my thinking is to leave it for this week. Right thing to do?

Elmander is fine, I don't know why people are looking to get rid.

This happened a few months ago when Carroll went a spell without a goal and everyone started selling him. I said at the time I was keeping Carroll as he was a season keeper. Look how that turned out.

I have the same feeling about Elmander. Keep him and play him whenever you can.

I'd sell Dunn as he never started last weekend and its acknowledged that even if if stays fit the rest of the season (takes a break to laugh himself silly) he will be rested as if can't handle playing evert week.

There are much better options out there that will earn you more points than David Dunn this year.

My team for this week. Bench: Foley, VdV, Williamson.

    Foster
    Kolarov/Vidic/Konchesky
    Nani/Bale/Nasri/Cahill
    Carroll/Torres/Elmander

3.7 in the bank. Can't really see any reason to make a transfer unless I'm missing something?..

    Nani,Nasri,N'Zogbia,Bale(Etherington)
    Drogba,Elmander,Tevez

1 free transfer, and 0.8m in the bank

was thinking of Elmander > Carrol

Personally I don't think I would do that with Newcastle facing Man City and Tottenham in the next few weeks. I'd be tempted to do N'Zogbia to Toure, or just save the transfer for two next week.

After too many orange arrows, I'd appreciate your thoughts on my team for this week:

    Foster (Mignolet)
    Konchesky Kyrgiakos Kolarov (Jones, Coleman)
    Nani Nasri Fabregas Bale Yaya
    Drogba Teves (Piquonne)

...Too many eggs in too few baskets perhaps?

    Currently set at:

    Hart (Gilks)
    Kolorav, Rafael, Dann (Baines, Hutton)
    Brunt, Kuyt, Nani, Nasri(C) (Cahill)
    Carroll, Tevez, Davies

    I was thinking:
Kuyt > VdV (if it looks like he'll be back),
Kuyt > Gampst Pederson (With extra points next week i'd move davies to berba),
Tevez > Balotelli (I'm a bit worried about Tevez's play prospects and I think Balotelli will take off soon)

I could also just save my transfers which is fine.
I also am still tempted to leave baines in... I think it could easily be a 0-0 game with baines picking up bonus points.

rmt svp!!! my links broken sorry!!!

    hart/foster
    cole/vidic/greek/bardsley/dann
    nzog/nasri/nani/brunt/adam
    carroll/kdavies/tevez

iv used one to get bardsley in but got another freebie!!
my instinct says utd chelsea 0-0/0-1, is it worth gambling on those scorelines, but then whats do i do with my other tranny!i need to upgrade uptop....im torn between getting nolan/yaya t, or upgrading davies ditching tevez...but with both im always terrified a ten points plus haul is around the corner usually at home....so any suggestions or do i just sit on what ive got!!

Wait on Tevez if he kisses and makes up with Mancini it's a good run of games. Save it and have two next week.
