The Watchlist player rankings have been updated for the Christmas period.

The table can be found in the bottom right corner your frontpage and represent our current ranking of players based on form and their fixtures over the forthcoming Gameweeks.

The update is dominated by the return of two heavyweights, as Tottenham’s Dutch playmaker Rafael Van der Vaart and Man City’s settled skipper Carlos Tevez, blink back on the radar as major considerations for the Gameweeks to come.

Joe Hart holds the top ranking in goal, with three home fixtures in the next five Gameweeks enough to see him keep United’s Edwin Van der Sar at bay. Pepe Reina falls to third then with his Boxing Day fixture at Blackpool in doubt. Sunderland’s Craig Gordon is the high new entry – presenting strong value at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game. Expect another climb for him once this weekend’s Old Trafford trip is out of the way.

Aleksandar Kolarov climbs to the top of the Defender rankings – despite defeat against Everton on Monday night, the Serbian should enough attacking intent to warrant his ranking. Leighton Baines’ form has him remain in the top five and has him climb to second, with Liverpool’s Sotirios Kygiakos dropping to third. Again it’s Sunderland presenting the value here – with Phil Bardsley remaining in our top five.

Chelsea’s Ashley Cole is slowly climbing back up the rankings and could push the top five once the trip to the Emirates has passed. Below him, both Ryan Nelsen and Carlos Salcido are new entries to represent the Blackburn and Fulham defences – Fulham in particular, have fixtures that could see the Mexican and team-mate Brede Hangeland, pick up some profit over the next six Gameweeks.

Nani keeps the top spot amongst the Midfielders once more – his forthcoming fixtures should allow him to maintain that position for a few more weeks at least. Rafael Van der Vaart is the big threat though; the Dutchman is back in contention for Harry Redknapp’s side and has fixtures ahead of him that present the opportunity for him to maintain his impact on the Premier League.

The rest of the top five remains intact with Gareth Bale holding off the charges of Cesc Fabregas, while Frank Lampard’s return to the Chelsea midfield also promotes Florent Malouda. Chelsea’s fixtures after their Boxing Day clash with Arsenal, should give Malouda the opportunity to regain some form.

Carlos Tevez arrives back in the Forward rankings and topples Fernando Torres to second, while Dimitar Berbatov is the big climber – ousting Darren Bent for third spot. Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba and the in-form Danny Welbeck are all on the rise this week. Expect further a further climb for the 5.1 Welbeck once this Gameweek has passed – the Sunderland striker is ineligible for the trip to Old Trafford.

The Watchlist will be refreshed once more ahead of Gameweek 21; there may well be a few tweaks along the way but we will alert you to any updates as they occur over Christmas.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I hope they go down now, it's no more than the new owners deserve. Shame for the fans.
Anyone remember years ago a similar situation at Wimbledon when the new Norwegian owners came in, sacked Jo Kinnear and replaced him with Egil Olsen. Immediately their 12 year existence in the top league came to an end and the club as we knew it.

He deserves it for bending over for Fergie, that's the last thing you should be doing when you got new owners.

I think 99% of Rovers fans share your view. Such an unnecessary risk to take at a vital point in the season. I'm just praying Kean can do half as well as his ego (and agent) is telling him he is going to do.

You can accept the fact that you had injuries but compare how the side were committed compared to how they are against Arsenal made the new owners decision easy.

Where were the fierce tackles, pressuring the keeper, first to every ball etc?

Watching the players stand off and admire United stroking the ball about while scoring 7 left them no option.

Maybe instead of playing two mid-price strikers, ie Bent and whoever you bring in for Balotelli, you could downgrade one to a more budget option, like Carroll or Odemwingie, and upgrade the other to someone a bit more hefty like Tevez, or if you fancy a punt on the likes of Rooney etc.

    A) N’Zogbia > VdV and A Cole > Rafael

    C) N’Zogbia > Bale and Baines > Rafael

You would get rid of those players? WHY?

A.Cole, after this week his fixtures are nice, don't get rid if you have had him this long. N'Zogbia, away at Wolves, the driving force of the Wigan team, nice fixtures too. And then Baines, getting rid before Birmingham at Home. Scrap that.

Well A.Cole has Bolton @ home, so that eliminates A.

Baines @ West Ham, I wouldn't get rid.

Especially not for Rafael, Brum away, they are capable of scoring. And N'Zogbia @ Home to Arsenal, he could do something there. Last season 3-2 remember.

Although I prefer Kolarov to Toure - Jags being out for 3 weeks is the bigger problem. I guess it comes down to whether you want an everton defender for the next 3 (or more probably up until the next wildcard) - personally I think it's a good move but in the back of my mind would be Arteta coming back and taking all the set pieces.

Well he didn't save it did he, the ball hit him and then span in. Same as if he touched it onto the post and then it rebounded in. Until the ball stops dead it is still in play

Fran I randomly found the actual picture of your profile.. ( I wasn't even looking for it)… I never realised its an optical illusion and your eye is actually a plant and nose a butterfly..

(for anyone reading i'm not off my head)

And its a goal because the ball was still moving

    Robinson Carson
    Kolarov Konchesky Dann Coleman Bardsley
    Malouda Nani Nasri Bale Albrighton/Barton
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

    Any suggestions for this team?
Also, what do you guys think the best wildcard strategy is over January? Do it early on when there is 10 days between gameweeks, or wait to see what new talent comes to the premier league?

WC might best be used in connection with double gameweeks.

Carson as goalie is a bit of a waste. I would rather go with Begovic (rotates well with Robbo). Bale to VDV? Downgrade Malouda and upgrade Coleman to Rafael?

I'd be wary of investing in Blackburn defenders if he left. I'd kind of like to buy Nelsen or Robinson otherwise.

I definitely think Rovers could find another centre back to do his job though. I'm not entirely convinced by just how good Samba is to be honest.

Its pretty annoying all the same. One of the main reasons I got him was the belief I could play him in most weeks and not have to worry about transferring him out again soon.

Probably gona have to bench him until Wildcard 2.

Haha yeah I know, I realized when I had posted it and re read it 🙂

What I mean is that I won't buy players in their defence until this turmoil with managers and players wanting to leave is all sorted out.

Then I also think that if they are given some time they will be able to find a replacement for Samba who is just as good or better.

Arshavin (the guy I didn't mention). I'm always wary of having 2 players from the same team, and I think Nasri gives me better returns than Arshavin does. Getting rid of Arshavin who offers similar points return but who costs less would also free up more money for me..

I'd have a long look at N'Zogbia and Yaya Toure if I were you.

That midfield is already so strong that I wouldn't feel the need to necessarily invest more money into it.

I think they both offer excellent value for the price you pay for them.

Yaya has played in a far more attacking role than we expected him to do before the season and is dirt cheap and City have good fixtures and are a good side.

Charlie Z is in a crappy side but can't stop getting them bonus points and is Wigan's main player. Fixtures are a bit so-so but not bad.

If you don't like them I think it's a decent idea to take a punt on Malouda again after this gameweek.

Actually, I already have Van der Vaart..! I've invested most of my money in my midfield, what with there being some quality but cheap options in defence and striker this year..

Well done you have the second best league by constantly posting for people to join on a site that has the number 1 league. Is that even an achievement? couldn’t anyone who posts regularly do the same?

So let me get this straight. My local driving centre have cancelled all their tests because they have literally been too f*cking lazy to grit about five square metres of their own car park. I now have to spend £20 quid getting another theory test. I gritted about five times that amount on my own in 45 minutes, which means they have been sitting on their arses all day quaffing champagne and smoking Cubans.

These people should be deported to downtown f*cking Kabul! Grrrrr...

    Rant over.

    Merry Xmas! 😉

Why do you have to get another theory test, is it cos it's gone out of date?

I can see about 6 changes that I could make - not particularly necessary but would balance my team up better.
I think 2 of these changes will be made before the wildcard anyway!

        My team would look like:
        Foster Begovic
Kolarov Konchesky Bosingwa(injury permitting) Barsdley Coleman
        Brunt Nani Nasri VDV Etherington
        Carrol Tevez Drogba

New players are Foster, Begovic, Bosingwa, Bardsley, Brunt and VDV
In for Schwarzer, Carson, Dann, Jones, Malouda and Adam

ha- yeah probably. Although... Foley has scored 2 goals in the last 5 games: what more do you want from a 4.0m defender! and look again at Whitehead: for 4.3m he plays every game and gets assists and the odd goal.

          I'm over protesting aren't I 🙂 let's see your team...

It was with more ref to the pitch condition at Villa Park rather than the accuracy of the BBC Weather forecast or the capability of Birmingham City Council to adequately grit the roads with all due respect.

The pitch at most games this weekend was fine – it was the conditions around the stadium that caused most of them to be cancelled, with all due respect

Could you give me your views on my transfer for this week:

Kuyt out (have Torres and Konchesky from 'pool already)

      4 potential replacements:
      1. Arteta (my favourite, decent fixtures, Everton showing form, Cahill playing in Asian cup, have Jagielka in terms of Everton coverage)
      2. Nasri (good form, poor fixture, I have no Arse coverage)
      3. VdV (potential for good returns, already have Bale though and wouldn't ideally double up on Spurs midfield)
      4. Dempsey (oop, decent form, not sure how good a team Fulham are at the moment though)

Can I have your thoughts on options 1-4 please? Thanks.
