Despite a dawdling start to his loan-spell in the North-East, Danny Welbeck has proven that he isn’t at the Stadium of Light to simply make up the numbers, with 5 goals in his last 6 games helping propel Sunderland to an inspiring sixth in the Premier League. Steve Bruce’s men have been in rousing form during November and December, suffering just one defeat and picking up a handful of wins, including the glorious 3-0 Stamford Bridge upset.

Welbeck’s goals have been integral to this success, with Bruce reluctantly conceding that the striker’s form has probably scuppered any hope of a permanent move…

“I always knew that was going to be a problem anyway, deep down, but you never know. Fergie has got a birthday coming up shortly and he might get generous in his old age. I somehow doubt it.â€

Bruce is in the “fortunate†position of having a selection headache up front with recent Watchlistee Darren Bent, Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck all vying for starts. If current trends are anything to go by it would seem that Welbeck is unlikely to lose his place; for home matches Welbeck is deployed on the left side of a forward three and, when Bruce does revert to 4-4-2 for tougher away matches, it’s Gyan that has dropped to the bench. Welbeck has hardly missed any pitch time recently – in the majority of fixtures the 20 year-old has completed 90 minutes.

The forward is ineligible for Sunderland this Gameweek as they travel to Old Trafford to face his parent club, but it isn’t until after the Boxing Day clash that The Black Cats’ fixture list starts to look really promising (BLP, BLA, avl, NEW, blp). With obliging defences ahead of him, Welbeck looks more than likely to add to his current Fantasy Premier League (FPL) score of 59 points.

An FPL ownership of 2.1% and a price of £5.1 million lines Welbeck up to be a key “differential†and a strong budget purchase. He represents a ready-made alternative to recent bandwagon acquisition Johan Elmander as the Bolton man prepares for trips to Liverpool and Chelsea in Gameweeks 20 and 21. For Peter Odemwingie owners worried about recent reports of the player suffering a “burn out†meanwhile, Welbeck looks to be the ideal straight swap option.

Welbeck’s form shows 10 FPL bonus points in his last 6 games while his OPTA stats demonstrate an outstanding contribution to the cause in recent weeks. The Sunderland striker looks set to be a hot property once the Boxing Day Gameweek has passed.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    My team:
    Fabianski, al-habsi
    Konchesky, Bardsley, Salgado, Kolarov, Foley
    Barton, Malouda, Nasri, VDV, Nani
    Carroll, Torres, Tevez.

I was going to do Malouda>Cahill and Barton>Yaya.
However, Cahill will obviously be going away, so it seems silly to waste a transfer on getting him in.
I’ve got 2 free transfers, so obviously need to make one, otherwise it’s wasted. I have around 0.6m in the bank.
    Advice please!

Why not Fabianski, he's a bargain surely?
Any other ideas cause I quite fancy Barton>Yaya, but just can't afford him by 0.1m.

    My team is:

    Robinson

    Vidic
    K Foley
    Baines

    Nani(c)
    N'Zogbia
    Cahill
    Brunt

    Torres
    Carroll
    Elmander

    Subs: Jaas, Samba, Nasri, Kyrgiakos

After reading the most recent Scout Scribbles, I'm thinking of getting rid of Brunt for VDV.
Also, I am subbing the right players?

I wouldnt be subbing nasri, thats a bit extreme, but as torres is likely to be froze out and samba injured then nasri will probably play anyways!

Since moving to England in 2004, Drogba has faced Arsenal 13 times (11 starts), and has scored 13 goals. The last two times Chelsea lost to Arsenal, Drogba wasn't on the pitch.

          Possibly.

I'd guess Fergie would feel it's a step backwards to play Owen rather than give Macheda important top flight experience though?

And then there is Hernandez who is similar to Owen but better at everything.

True about Hernandez- but Owen is sure to get some pitch time if only by default or in the FA cup.

Also, Fergie's motto is if you're old enough you're good enough, and Macheda definitely is not good enough! (and possibly never will be if he doesn't hit the gym)

TBH he's gonna end his career with us, so it's either him retiring or getting one more season if he hits some form. I for one am in favour of giving him some more time. He's the type of player who can produce when most needed......

Although if Wellbeck carries on developing then we might have to dump him! 😛

Owen is a massive waste of salary. Thanks to him for scoring the winner against city last year but it's pointless him being in the squad. Next summer: Rooney > Berba > Hernandez > Welbeck > Macheda > Yorke > Cole > Sheringham > Owen.

Looks incredibly similar to the team Manchester United assembled in my football manager 11 campaign.

Just replace Rafael with Maicon and Fletcher with Modric and you've got it.

Well your defence will be decided for you if/when the Liverpool game is of, but I would bench your two Liverpool defenders anyways, if you don't want to do that, then make sure it is Skrtel that you play. Up top, I would bench Ferguson.

Well, playing 4 defenders IMO is ludicrous, especially when you have Carroll, always play him, @ home to. Then you have big game Arshavin. So I think you should bench another defender, up to you of course, I suppose it is whether you feel Kolarov will keep the cleanie, and if you do then play him, if not, then play Carroll.

It was a stupid idea anyways, no economy is certain of always being stable and seeing as that is the reason they don't let Eastern European countries in (Some of). It is stupid, any economy can just fcuk up in a matter of seconds, and then the rest of Europe have to pay. But hey, we are an owner of the sacred British pound.

Yeah I know, to me it's logical that every country know their own needs best and should control their own currency.

And they don't benefit us in England directly, but it is mainly set up for businesses. I would tell my parents to vote No on the Euro if it came to a vote before I was 18, but it doesn't matter anyways, we will either join the eurozone or get blown up by North Korea by the end of the century.

Anyone gonna try ignore Tevez for the fixtures? Considering Welbeck or Bent instead, allowing me to have Lampard.

Or is it better to have Carlos and Malouda but maybe an extra 4 pointer?

I'd rather Tevez and Malouda. Tevez has been the most consistent points scorer all season out of all the 'big' players.

Yep, but Lampard is a massive differential and Bent has equally good fixtures as Carlos.

Tevez and Malouda means an extra hit or two as well.

One last time before I pull the trigger
My fantasy cup opponent has Rooney(c)...hasnt changed his team in forever, but has a decent team.

Considering that, which is more appealing

    1) Jagielka and Tevez off ---> Nelsen and Rooney

or forget fantasy cup and go with original plan

    2) Jagielka and Lee off ---> Rafael and Y Toure

    Got 2 transfers

Anyone else benching Carroll this week? I don't think I have much choice unless the Liverpool game is called off.

I'm not benching Carroll again until he loses form. Hurt me badly twice already.

Carrol is first name down on my team sheet every week, you just look back at the last time he didnt score points in a game and then think about your decision again.

Well it's basically one out of Carroll, Nasri or Dunn.

I'm going to hate not having anyone in that Arsenal/Chelsea game though. Plus I'm playing Kolarov.

Kolarov is looking good for assists and goals though so even when he concedes to a carroll goal he can still run up the other end and smash a thunderbolt in to the top left corner. Did you watch the man city v everton game? it was ridiculous how many shots kolarov got in. More than any of the city strikers!

He's scored 4 or more points in his last 10 games - which means he's due a 2 pointer. Although he could sting you if he does well (50%+ ownership).

So I'd say play it safe and play him.

Greg, you worried about not having Tevez? Bent allows more £££ but Carlos is extremely tempting.

No transfers for me this week, but I have a hit or two planned for GW 20.

          Wow!

Heavy WBA investment to be expected then. Serious captain material as well.

I'd love to have the chance to buy Tchoyi as well, and if injuries permit you might even have the chance to captain your hero Dorrans!

Maybe, hopefully he'll be playing more advanced by then! Going to be tough for me, I'll be tempted to captain an Albion player and I'll be doing to both games anyway, but yet Fabregas or whoever for Arsenal could run riot in that week also.
