As our recent Tweet has revealed, Andy Carroll’s availability for the Gameweek 23 remains a doubt, with Alan Pardew granting the striker a break in the sun to help him recuperate for the derby match with Sunderland.

Carroll has been sent to Dubai to rest and he is not set to return to a chillier climes until Wednesday with his fitness is set to be assessed the following day. Carroll’s Fantasy owners remain in the dark on his chances of making the Sunderland clash then but Alan Pardew did at least offer us this on the situation…

“It’s an injury that’s difficult to judge because it’s just a small tear in his thigh, but it’s a big muscle. Striking balls is a big problem. He’s walking and getting around feeling no problem but it’s when he starts kicking it will cause him a problem. We won’t know his chances until next Thursday.”

Carroll has already suffered an Fantasy Premier League price drop to 6.4 following his absence over the past two Gameweeks; his ownership has fallen from 54% to 47% in that time. With the Gameweek 22 wildcard now active, his sales seem set to continue and only confirmation of his availability for the clash with the Black Cats will likely stem that tide.

Personally, I’m holding tight. Like many of his Fantasy owners, I would suffer a heavy loss of funds if I sold Carroll on and, given his consistency and Newcastle’s mini-revival under Pardew, he may even present a decent differential on his return. That stance depends greatly on Thursday’s assessment however; if the prognosis suggests a prolonged absence, Carroll will surely suffer accelerated sales as wildcards are put to use before the Gameweek 27 deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

thoughts on kolarov? are people sticking w/him, or thinking that he's a rotation risk now for the long term? i know short term he's good because of zabaleta's red. i don't want to pay 6.4 for toure and don't know another city defender that's as established to start.

also, any idea on where nzog might end up? thoughts on if he goes, will it be domestic or back to france (marseille)?

      hard to know,
if the red card is succesfully appealed , i think il get rid
if not, il see if he gets started (they could still choose richards and boateng)

Anyone brave enough to (c) VdV next gameweek? I'm tempted but might go with the logical (but unlikely to do anything) Tevez

tevez home form = nt great points wise
VDV = against an unbeaten team

ever heard of the phrase wounded animal.

I wouldn't captain fabregas gainst West ham imo.

Tevez is playing wolves who will be brought back down to earth, after humbling chelsea nd liverpool, and finally realise... "oh shit, maybe we will get relegated after all"

    Adam. Fans. Nasri. Vdv. Nani.

Ok lads I know this is a very popular midfield, (I actually had this midfield in my mind before I came on here!*) who would bench if you had this forward line:

    Tevez. Berbatov. Odemwingie.

I honestly can't choose. I'm thinking Odem but if you don't play him at home to blackpool when would you? Tempted to just put carrol in and hope he's injured!

    Any ideas would be welcome.

anyone else fed up w/cashley? i bought him at the beginning of the season, but am thinking that it's time to cash in the chips and downgrade to coleman and splash the cash up front for two expensive strikers (tevez/rooney).

I have, over the course of three years of playing FF, never not owned Ashley Cole while he was fit. That will change tonight when I finally work up the courage to hit my wild card.

And yes, I am downgrading him to Coleman and splashing out elsewhere, as you suggest.

I am sorry for double post, but I am really just looking for options to increase my team value (wildcarding prior to GW 24). Got two free transfers.

At the moment, I can field this XI:
    Foster
    Konchesky, Kolarov, Bardsley
    Nani, VdV, Adam, Nasri, MGP
    Torres, Drogba (C)
    SUBS: Stockdale; Carroll, Vidic, Crainey.

    Any opinions?

    cole>coleman (free up cash)
    nolan>nzog (bp magnet and dgw)
    elmander>tevez (capt. next week)
    bardsley>fulham defender (pantsil/hughes)

then, following week free transfer, tevez>rooney (dgw).

souds good,,,im gonna take a 8 pt hit to fill up on utd players and dgw players for 24,then wcard b4 25 with gw 27 in mind,i think thats the best plan as some teams with a double in 27 have nice fixtures in 25 + 26,i think that plan gives best overall dgw team coverage for the 5 weeks in question plus you have a free in 26 and 27 to add to your wc

Use http://www.totalfpl.com & see what players are being transferred the most daily. You have a FFS generic team so you can't really improve much. Just play the fixtures & concentrate on the points.

Yeah, but if I made value from both transfers, I could make 0.2. The same 0.2 is also the difference between Nani and Arshavin.

I have to do the free transfers anyway, so why not make some funds? Of course, if you see any obvious improvements I could do with the free transfers instead - shout it out! 🙂

Your team is almost faultless, good job. Only Carroll and MGP are to be considered. The one transfer I would make is Vidic to Rafael to free up funds.
And it's better to be conservative and keep th transfers instead of bombing on to try and get a small profit.

Oh, certainly never heard that before. Thank you very much, nice ranking you have there!

What would you do with Carroll or MGP, then?

Could do Vidic -> Baines, as well. Or of course, I could do Vidic -> Rafael, as you said. But why use a transfer on a player I wouldn't play, nor gain any value on?

The way I see it is you usually need to have cheap defenders, in order to maximise attacking potential. My favourite transfer would be Vidic to Rafael because IMO he is as likely to not only gain defensive points but attacking points as Vidic, for a lot less money.

As for MGP and Carroll, probably wait for now. For some reason I don't see the latter playing for a while especially not at full fitness. Maybe take him out for a DGW player?

I am probably going to do that when I play my WC, but if I wait, wouldn't I lose quite a lot of money?

Aye thats the problem. If I were you and looked at the fixtures I would swap him for Odemwingie now and deal with the Carroll problem later if he returns to form.

Maybe not so wise, after all?

This is just for one week, right? Why a ManU defender? Birmingham have AV at home, Wigan have Fulham at home - could look at defender from one of those teams for a cheeky punt?

                Only one week, yes.
Already have Foster in goal, so I would avoid doubling up. Also, it's a derby, so I feel anything can happen. At least, ANYTHING can happen with the Wigan defense. I don't trust them.

Maybe just field Konchesky, Kolarov, Bardsley and get in...
                Rodallega for Carroll?
                N'Zogbia for MGP?
                Other suggestions?

Woah woah hold your horses mate. Since when were they playing their U18s! Won't he just play the same reserve team that he got fined earlier for in the season, memory's not too good but they did alright if I can remember rightly. Also our manager has come out this week saying the league is our priority so he might make a few changes.

Despite all that I certainly don't want to put you of your bet so if I was you I would go for it. I am still optimistic and our home form has pretty much been second to none this year 😀

Trinity don't do archaeology, they have to go to UCD to do it (which have a very solid archaeology department as do UCC). You can only do classics or ancient history at Trinity - good Uni though.

Trinity is full of knobs, seriously. Its courses are all WAY over what they should be points-wise ( I got a shed load of points, and still chose a different college)

The reason the points are so high is cos most of the southside geeks will do any course they can get in there just so they can say they went to trinity. And Harvard of Ireland? My @rse!

Check out the international university ratings (somewhere), its almost bottom of the list. Fookwit central, only sound man i ever met that went there was from Cork…and that’s an even BIGGER rarity.

I have the first four along with Shawcross and I'm starting him, Toure and the Bard. For the other I'd probably go for Coleman because the other two will be unlikely to get a clean sheet whereas the Mersyside derby will probably be a tight game and Coleman always has the most attacking potential. Maybe keep on eye on how Liverpool do at the weekend and whether they get rid of Roy though, could spur them on.

                not all in one week

did it in like week 2 and for the next 2-3 weeks had players who were all starting off well so people brought em in = high risers

We are taking instant team value not over 3-4 gameweeks. At best you make around 1 million with price fallers & risers with a wildcard early on.

Having 2 wildcards is very good now in your position. You could use one in GW27 & soon after use the 2nd one to pick the team for the home stretch. Abit more team value would be useful though.

Oh, and Adam would be absolutely bonkers to join Birmingham. Big Eck would have him doing all this boring defensive work, whereas at Blackpool he can basically do whatever he likes. Should leave at the end of the season though... I doubt he would want to play in the Championship again. 😉

They are 'only' four points of relegation, and I'd be astonished if they come even close to replicating their form from the first half of the season, in the second half. They have so many bad players, and a manager who isn't as brilliant as people think - his subs vs Birmingham basically lost them the game.

Wolves, Blackpool, Birmingham to go down. Said it at the beginning of the season, albeit with Blackpool predicted to get about 6 points, and still stand by it.

Horseshit, they've 19 games to pick up 15 points. Can easily be done.

They've a better ppg than Liverpool, Everton and Fulham. Olly's done very well this year imo.

Nah - they've got the trick of it, which is to score plenty goals - only instead of a 20+ man, they have two 12+ men, and are getting goals from their midfield and backs ... oh, and they have a couple of old stagers for when it's squeeky bum time ...

My second question of the night:

Ok, the dealio is that I want N'Zogbia for the double in week 24, and will transfer out Yaya to get him. I'm just wondering whether people think it's worth doing the transfer a week early (Yaya plays WOLVES and N'Zogbia plays FULHAM).

It basically comes down to who we think will score more, Yaya or N'Zogbia?

im WCing this week so am bringing in nzogbia this week keeping him for double saves a transfer later

Nzogbia = walking BP machine so ur guaranteed at least 4 odd points and if he scores then about 9-10

and btw i saw what u meant...yaya has some serious stamina issues guy was falling over every time he ran against arsenal

It's pretty embarrassing that a guy being paid 220k a week is so unfit. He's pretty good to watch when he's running with the ball, but if I was a City fan I'd be incredibly annoyed with him.

He basically took five minutes off the pitch against Arsenal after he knackered himself going on some silly run that led to nothing. Barely made it out of their half after that!

It's a toughie no doubt, cheers for the constructive feedback. 😕

The only worry I have is that N'Zog gets injured/sent off and then I have to take him back out, probably costing me 4 points, whereas if I just waited and played Yaya in his simple fixture I'd only need to make one transfer in total, Yaya > N'Zog (or someone else if N'Zog gets injured)..

I'd probably rather have N'Zog for this week though.... Hmmm.

But the issue is just the possibility of N'Zog missing the double for whatever reason. If I stick with Yaya for this week, then I'll make one transfer in total over the next two weeks whatever happens, but if I transfer in N'Zog and he gets injured, then I'll have to make two transfers in total to then get rid of him, presumably costing me 4 points. D'ya get me?!

Don't really like the ANY position, or at least it'll take some getting used to whoever is playing it.

I'll be on after the cricket has finished.

Despise the any position. Especially since my pro is out of time with my controller/the game in 75% of the mathces, meaning I'd screw the 7 others over.

                  When's that?

Correcting grammar at 12:44am is pretty average stuff, Jamsiep.
