Arsenal’s emphatic 3-1 victory over Chelsea back in Gameweek 19 seems to have provided a psychological shot in the arm to a team searching for their first piece of silverware in five years. After stylishly sweeping aside the reigning Premier League Champions, the Gunners have since bossed matches against Birmingham (a 3-0 victory) and Man City (a game they deserved to win). They are now within 4 points of leaders Manchester United and seem to be the biggest rivals to Sir Alex’s men, given Chelsea’s torrid form and City’s inconsistency. The triumphant display against Chelsea also saw the return key players Cesc Fabregas and, namely, Robin Van Persie – who made his first start of the season.

This new found buoyancy and restoration of proven talent will give Arsene Wenger’s men a significant boost into the second half of the season and the foundations to tackle what, on paper, appears to be a kind run of fixtures (whm, WIG, EVE, new, WOL/STK, che) which includes an immensely attractive double Gameweek spent at the Emirates.

The return of highly influential Van Persie is a timely and one would expect him to be in amongst the goals and assists, in a run that could make or break Arsenal’s title hopes. Of course, Marouane Chamakh remains a factor having enjoyed an encouraging start to his career at the Emirates, and there is a possibility that one of the two strikers will be benched, with Wenger currently favouring a five-man midfield. But with the Frenchman opting for Van Persie in the crucial clashes with Chelsea and Manchester City, this seems a clear signal of his intent.

RVP hasn’t had the chance to prove his worth this season having only managed to scrape together a handful of Premier League appearances, but if previous seasons are anything to go by then the Dutch international will soon enough show his ability. The player is as much as a provider as he is a goalscorer, in the 2008/2009 season (one in which he managed to stay relatively injury free) he clocked up 11 goals and 10 assists, and his all round authority was not unnoticed as he collected 27 bonus points on the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

A key component in Arsenal’s attacking ploys and a factor at set-plays, now could be the right time to transfer in Van Persie. With a current FPL ownership of just 3.5%, he could be a key “differential” and once he has hit some form, his value of £9.5 million will surely increase as swarms of Fantasy Managers take interest.

The caveat is of course the Dutchman’s history of injuries. Van Persie has suffered badly in previous seasons from a catalogue of setbacks – ankle, thigh, foot, hamstring and knee – Van Persie has suffered problems with them all. The 2008/09 season saw him start 24 league games – he’s never got close to bettering that total in this, his seventh year in the Premier League.

Although his valuation is high for a player who has a rickety injury record, many Fantasy Managers will have funds available in the bank as Carlos Tevez seems to be one of the only high-priced forwards displaying a degree of consistency. If you do opt for Van Persie though prepare to wince at every incoming tackle and make sure you’re stocking some bubble wrap for those glass legs.

Berb could be on the bench for TOTTS as SAF likes the sinle striker against good teams. With Park out that might change though.

Problem with berbatov and many other man u players is that when they have a double gameweek fergie will rotate many of the players.

In Berbatovs case he likely to be rested for Hernandez in one of the two fixtures , and the easy the fixture the more likely he is to be rested .

so i am using my wc before gw 23 starts, and ill post my previous team, and my team i will have after the wc.

    hart, foster
    coleman, baines, kolarov, vidic, bardsley
    bale, adam, vdv, nani, brunt
    berba, carroll, tevez

    my team to be

    foster, al habsi
    coleman, djourou, evatt, rafa, bardsley
    bale, adam, vdv, nani, fabregas
    berba, rvp, tevez

i think it's a pretty good use of my wc. i'm just wondering if i should do this now, or wait and trade either berba or rvp when dzeko becomes available

I won't double up on Bale & vdv. Spurs playing ManU in gw 23. I would rather get someone like NZog that has double in gw 24.

      No liverpool cover for gw24?

Who you benching for gw 23 from your front 8?

if i trade either of them, i won't be able to buy them back because their price is so inflated from when i bought them previously.

i am a liverpool fan, but let's face facts, they're not winning, or scoring for that matter. steven gerrard would be the only one i would consider, but he's out of my price range. i could trade fabregas for him, but we'll see how he plays before their double gw 24.

i would bench adam, but that depends on how he plays against liverpool.

Makes sense. Personally Im WC in gw 24 and getting as many double gw players in. Looks like I will end on 8.

With no hits/minimal trades and a bit of luck I should also be able to field 8 in gw 27.

I think if you WC then your team should be set up to not take any hits the gw after your WC. are you going to be happy with your double gw coverage for gw 24?

I think you have 6 at the moment.

you guys talking some sense there with lfc and doubles. i am a sucker for torres cause his potential and the goals he scores always sells it to me.

i asked this earlier see what you think, i got dj campbell and adam in my team already.
can do barton >nzogs this week and bench dj for west brom game.

but then which would you bench in the dgw dj or n'zogbia??

alternatively forget nzogs and do jara to djourou and ride that bus till it breaks down.

Morning/afternoon/evening all. I know we get a lot of these, but I'm playing around with the idea of my ideal WC team. It's:
    Fabianski (Al Habsi)
Rafael Coleman Bardsley (Crainey and Simpson)
    Nani VDV Cesc Adam (Albrighton)
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

I'm only making 6 trades there and I feel I might not be making the most of the wildcard. Thoughts and suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

Dzeko will play every game, unlike some other signings he's a world class player, just as good as Tevez.

Tevez will still be the main man. Dzecho could still end up being a flop at City and will certainly need some time to settle. Hopefully, it does mean City finally play 2 strikers at home and start scoring some goals.

Yes, I think now is an excellent time to get Djourou in, in my opinion.

He has great fixtures for the foreseeable future and has Sagna and Vermaelen out for a while so will be starting the next few games for sure.

Since most people will be wildcarding in the next few weeks then it'll be easy to take him out or get other defensive cover if and when he loses his place.

He's an ideal replacement for Foley, who has horrible fixtures now.

Its a win-win move in my book.

"It just fits" means that it won't fit by the time GW27 comes around.

There's a lot can happen between now and then and, dare I say it, inevitably some players are going to get injured in the Cup games this weekend.

So you, me and possibly lots of other players may have to refine our teams unexpectedly after this weekend is over.

Hi guys, am wildcarding this week - any comments on this squad? Have tried to tailor to take advantage of double GWs coming up.

    Fabianski, Al Habsi
    Rafael, Coleman, Hangelaand, Bardsley, Crainey
    Nani, VDV, Gerrard, Adam, Watson
    Torres, Berbatov, RVP

    Plan to do
Bardsley -> Dann in GW24/25 (in prep for their double GW27)
Gerrard & Torres -> Fabs & Tevez in GW 26
    Hangelaand & Watson -> Brunt & S Taylor in GW27

Cheers, yeah i'd rather Fabs over Gerrard, but slightly favouring Gerrard in GW 23-> 25 given Liverpool's double GW in 24. I guess it would save me a transfer if i just started with Fabs, and with his good fixtures he could even outscore Gerrard over those 3 weeks...would then just downgrade Hangalaand to Hughes to keep the Fulham coverage for their double in GW24...whatcha think?

Instead of Gerrard and Torres have one or the other only.

There is uncertainty over Liverpool's managerial situation right now so loading up on their players isn't a wise move in my opinion.

I'd keep Torres and get Fabs instead of Stevie G. Fabs is likely to outscore one or both in his single game anyway.

Don't get rid of Hangeland, that's poor advice. He's a goalscoring defender with a good DGW coming up.

Sunderland have crap fixtures coming up, so I'm not sure now is the time to be wildcarding their defenders in. Alcaraz has a double and some nice home games for around the same price.

Also, which one of your strikers will you sit in GW24? I assume it'll be Van Persie as he's the only one without a DGW, seems you're likely to play both your cheap mids as they have DGW's too. That's a waste of money.

Why not get Rooney instead of Berbatov, who may not start both DGW games whereas Rooney will and is on pens?

And get a cheaper striker instead of Van Persie too.

Disagree nomar, what difference does it make if he has nasri or not. Whether or not to do it this week -4 or next week for free is simply a matter of whether or not fab will outscore yaya by 4+ this gw.

True, yes, but he seems to feel that Yaya will score well this week, possibly on a par with Fabs, otherwise why would he have asked the question?

If he feels that way about Toure then he may want to hedge his bets this week and then get Fabs next week when he can do it for no point hit.

Of course, if if wildcards this week then he can have Yaya and Fabs with no hits at all.

    Dear Fantasy Football Gods!

I am having a terrible season. Every captain I pick fails. Every trade I make- backfires, every chance I take fails miserably... I would love some help on my team!

    Foster (Gordon)
    Vidic, Kolarov, Kyrgiakos (Onuoha, Jara)
    VDV, Fabs, Adam, Nani, (Song)
    VanPersie, varney, Tevez(c)

backline is weak, liverpool are shite defensively, kolarov struggles to get game time, and onuoha has been injured, so thinking...
    onuoha -> bardsley
    kolarov -> Coleman
    kyrgiakos-> birmingham defender GW26

and... upgrading song to nasri with the proceeds

i think its a good plan, but that means nothing to me this year!!

I am hoping so but Zabaleta did very well against Walcott. If Kolarov starts, Mick will probably pair Jarvis against him and clearly Kolarov is starting to get exposed against pace. City will probably have bought another LB by then anyway!

    hi guys

just thinking about doing drog -> rodallega and MGP -> fantasy fabregas for a four point hit leaving me free to get rafael in for shawx next week. Worth the hit? Any thoughts? Could go for campell instead of rodallega but that would mean tripling on blackpool which is dangerous and i fancy wigan at home to fulham

    OPTION A
    GW23 - no transfer
GW24 - Tchoyi to Nasri, Tevez to Berbatov
    GW25 - Clichy to Djorou
    GW26 - Berbatov to Tevez

    OPTION B
GW23 - Clichy to Djorou, Tchoyi to Nasri (4 point HIT)
    GW24 - Tevez to Rooney
GW25 - none planned right now

I notice RVP is very popular now. I would love to have him too but surely such a run of generous fixtures makes him even more prone to rotation? Arse play Barca in between their home DGW fixtures. I would be surprised if he starts either of these now, especially as Spurs (a) falls a few days after the Stoke (h) game too. Having said this, Arsene won't want to take any more risks and the FA & Carling cup semis will keep Bendy/Chamakh happy for a few games. I reckon RVP will start the next 4 prem games but get rested for the DGW home games. whu, WIG, EVE, new would be the run then. And I would be nervous about the WIG home game still so I really am not sure of his investment value yet. Thought he was awful at Brum, average v Chels but showed a few promising signs v City.

Arsenal also have the two leg cup semi this month which may make rotation more difficult to predict. I think they will play a strong team to win silverware. Do you agree Si?

The champions league worries me with a lot of players being rotated, I think Nasri will be the same with the options they have in midfield. I think Berba may get rotated too which makes reluctant to get him also. Tevez is probably safe in terms of game time as they only have the Europa League but theirs a good chance he'll be playing wider with Dzeko around. Drogba seems a safeish option but will probably be rested in the odd game, possibly in the league if the champions league is what their really going to go for?

In summary theirs not a lot of strikers who fill me with confidence in terms of regular games which is why Carroll, Odem etc are tempting me more and then goin for a heavy weight midfield.

Hopefully Colin plays the reserves and we get beaten by Blackburn. We don't need a cup run as we need to have tunnel vision and just focus on the league.
