Blackburn move up to the heady heights of seventh in the table as they make short work of another pretty but ineffective display from Roberto Di Matteo’s West Brom. Here’s the notes from Sunday’s single encounter…

Steve Kean made two changes to his Blackburn lineup, handing starts to new signings Roque Santa Cruz and Jermaine Jones. Ryan Nelsen sat out with a knee injury, while Mame Diouf dropped to the bench. Jones came straight in at left-back, with Gael Givet shifting to partner Chris Samba in the centre of defence.

Junior Hoilett’s performance, epitomised by a superb strike for his first Premier League goal, was the highlight of a routine 2-0 win for Rovers. The Canadian striker looks to have cemented his starting role with a string of impressive showings, prompting Steve Kean to single him out for praise. Hoilett rightly earned him the maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus from yesterday’s game.

Hoilett, picked out in Big Dunc’s “Spot the Differential” on Saturday morning, is available for just 4.0 in the FPL game – only Marlon Harewood at 3.9, can be found cheaper amongst the Forwards. It’s unfortunate that Hoilett’s stock is rising at a time when having 3 top tier strikers in a 3-4-3 looks to be the preferred formation in the FPL; Hoilett would make a strong option as a cheap bench striker for those looking to keep faith with a regular 3-5-2 in the FPL.

The Blackburn defence kept a first clean sheet in 8 games with Paul Robinson playing a big part in preserving their lead. Jermaine Jones was also praised by Steve Kean post-match, having made his debut in the Rovers back four.

“His passing and the way he kept the ball for us as well was fantastic. He was a £10million player before his last injury and, with his performance today (Sunday) and another couple of games under his belt, I think he’ll be fantastic for us.”

In truth the American was fortunate not to have conceded a penalty having cut down Peter Odemwingie in the box only for referee Mark Clattenburg to adjudge the challenge to have occurred outside of the box, much to Di Matteo’s frustration.

As for West Brom, they continue to play good football without reward. Their slide down the table is beginning to alarm with 6 defeats in their last 7 league matches. Fortunately for them, fixtures do at least hand them a route to escape the slump (WIG mcy WHM WOL). The Baggies have three home games in four and a double fixture in Gameweek 27 that may even earn attention for the likes of Chris Brunt and Peter Odemwingie. That pair continue to be the most likely to Roberto Di Matteo’s men, dominating in terms of influence and goal threat. Jerome Thomas also showed up at Ewood Park however – he looks to be carrying strong form into that run of home fixtures.

The own goal from Gabriel Tamas for Blackburn’s opener marked an unfortunate double for the Romanian against Rovers. Tamas also got sent off in the reverse of this fixture last month making them very much his bogey team having scored -2/-1 against Rovers this season.

Di Matteo was able to welcome back Jonas Olsson to his starting lineup after he’d missed a long spell with an Achilles injury, followed by a suspension. His return allowed Paul Scharner to shift into midfield to replace the injured Graham Dorrans who had an ankle problem.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This week has been a nice recovery from last week, where for Maxi had the armband for me. I didn't have time to change and ended up with horrible points, this week is a lot better.

Is everyone shipping Bale out? I can't think who to replace him with, got my team linked.

The worst thing is, all along I've been saying "play the long game, don't put DGW players in your team you wouldn't normally have".

While it can still work out in the long run, it's damaged me immeasurably just this one week.

Anyone on this boat with me?

Normally when I get a score of 72 points I am very happy but it seems pretty paltry considering the goals this weekend (whatever the average score may say).

Considering I only have Hangeland, Kelly, Adam and Nani (c) to play the second of a double I feel left out from all of the jubilation on these boards. My rivals will certainly peg me back.

Is it wrong to feel thoroughly disappointed with 72 points thus far in GW25?

59 with 6 players left, very disappointed, Berbatov was the man I was telling people to get all week, where I had Rooney the past 5 weeks, we could all see Berbatov doing something special in at least one of the games, and of course he did, if he racks up another couple of goals my main rival will score almost 3/4 of my team's points with one guy, thank god for the Rooney assists and 1 BP.

Still, 70% of the really good scores were courtesy of the WC, the rest were Berbatov owners who captained, and who had RVP (obviously I am generalising a bit here), I had Torres and Rooney for the past 3 weeks in advance of this GW, and brought in DJ so got a little unlucky there.

Hoping, albeit blindly, that Rooney can get a goal or two or at least outscore Berb midweek

I beat ye all! 46 so far.. Dj Campbell,Walker and Rio in there. Baines no clean sheet. And Nani having a million ahots and 2 million crosses and jsut getting the 1 goal. Althought at least he did get a goal!

Playing the WC now a bit of fixing to do and now is the best time to play it for sure

Surely you'd admit that that team with your name on, that's in the FFS, TFPL AND millionaire's club leagues appears more likely to be yours than the one you linked with a different name, no leagues that would suggest that person reads this website and a much higher score....

With rvp firing on all cylinders i think fabs + rvp is the new essential pairing for the next few gameweeks. (ok I HOPE it is the new essential pairing!! haha)

                +1

Carroll might have been good value at 5mill, but by hanging on to him you lose value AND all the rvp/berba point hauls.

There is no way I would play him in his double even if he is fit. Better value in the other teams.

My team is looking rubbish atm: Kolarov Evatt Vidic(too expensive) Konchesky Nasri N'Zogbia Carroll

And I'm 26 points behind my rival who knows very little about football.
Do you think it's worth wildcarding to give this team?

    Begovic Foster
    Coleman Kelly Djourou Simpson Hutton
    Fabregas Adam Brunt VDV Nani
    Torres RVP Berbatov

    Any advice appreciated 😀

Nice WC team. Bar Simpson, Hutton, Berbs and Torres it is my exact team now.

However for me Tevez is a better option than either Berbs or Torres. I think you might just be chasing last (this) week's points in that respect.

My honest opinion is that in the next 6 gameweeks Tevez will outscore Torres and Berbs but then again as a Tevez owner I am a little bias. Your call.

The fact that Hernandez wasn't even a sub on Saturday, also makes me think that Ferguson was preparing to start him tomorrow. That said I can't see him separating the Berbatov/Rooney partnership now and he may just give him the FA Cup game at the weekend. Had there been league fixtures on Saturday then I think Berbatov could have missed out tomorrow.

I think that was tactical due to Man U playing Arsenal and Fergie favouring a 4-3-3 against them, as opposed to resting him.

He'll play 4-4-2 at Blackpool whether its Berbatov or Hernandez alongside Rooney.

That's my plan; personally I think he's gonna start bangin' in a few goals.

Also SAF is much more likely to rest Berbs and will want to keep Roo in team to try bag a few goals to get confidence up before the Champs Lg starts getting serious again.

Is Alcaraz defo out for 2nd game this week? If so happy days as Bardsley was first sub; first bit of good news fir my team this week.

Random but just wanted peoples thaughts on this

I understand the need for decent double game week players but for the next double game week where tottenham and arsenal have great fixtures do people think teams will suffer the week after due to overloading on them?( as both poss playing each other the week after/not playing at all)

basically trying to figure out if people think its better to have loads of double game week players or try and keep a balanced team.
