Window Watch – Chelsea Begin Torres Talks

Liverpool have officially confirmed that a fee of the transfer of Fernando Torres to Chelsea has been agreed.

The sum involved has yet to be confirmed but, according to reports and day-long speculation, we can expect something in the region of £50 million. Incredible. Torres is currently on his way to Stamford Bridge where he will be expected to undergo a medical and discuss terms ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

This move was always going to be pivotal to the day’s events and so it proved, with Liverpool reacting to Chelsea’s move for their striker 48-hours ago by agreeing an incredible £35 million deal for Newcastle’s Andy Carroll. Expectations have been shattered along with transfer records on a quite staggering transfer deadline day.

A full summary of the day’s events will follow and, once we have confirmation, we will also bring you Scout Reports on both Torres and Carroll, assessing their potential at their new clubs.

1. Chelsea - do they really need a striker with a 50M quid price tag? Midfield and defence look more shaky.
2. Liverpool - Torres a massive loss - Will they feel Andy Carrol and the the biting cheat are necessarily adequate replacements esp given their cost? But maybe Mr. A. Carroll will get some responsibility with a 35M quid millstone round his neck. Maybe they will feel better if the Charlie Adam deal also comes off.
3. Newcastle - must be gutted to lose Carroll.

The Club agreed a fee of up to 26.5million Euros with Ajax for the transfer of the Uruguayan international on Friday and a Liverpool FC spokesperson tonight said: "Luis Suarez has successfully passed his medical and personal terms with the player have been agreed.       That would be because Szczesny has played so well. Wenger tried to buy Schwarzer in January as a stop-gap until the young Pole was ready. It would be pointless to go back there when Szczesny has already claimed the number 1 spot.

    I suppose those three didn't stay fit.
    
    With the ridiculous transfer sums being thrown about Wenger has most likely hidden away in his garden shed all day.
