Last weekend’s home draw with Wigan may have stopped the run of successive victories and clean sheets at four league games, but Liverpool will take plenty positives from Saturday’s showing. With his fifth goal in six games, the goalscoring form of Raul Meireles is showing no sign of ending and, just as encouragingly, the integration of new signing Luis Suarez into the Liverpool first-team looks set to be seamlessly quicker than expected.

Injuries to Steven Gerrard and Daniel Agger denied Kenny Dalglish key personnel in his recent 3-2-3-1-1 formation, so Liverpool switched to a 4-4-1-1 system against Wigan. As this Passing Heat Map shows, Suarez -in his first start for the club- was initially stationed out left with plenty license to roam, then, with the illness that forced Meireles off the pitch on 54 minutes allowing the Uruguayan a more central role thereafter, he showed plenty to suggest he will not just be a prominent player for Liverpool but also -potentially- for Fantasy Teams once he is fully settled at Anfield.

Suarez had 5 goal attempts at the weekend and was desperately unlucky not to find the net; he hit the post, then the bar and, in the absence of Gerrard, also took on direct free-kick duties. Our Members can see just how good his performance was in terms of OPTA stats, but with more Touches of the ball than any other forward last weekend -in addition to a number of impressive stats- it was easy to see just why the new boy picked up 2 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points for his performance.

As the Heat Maps below show, having moved into the middle, his take on the role vacated by Meireles shows he is a more attack-minded option behind the lone forward. Whereas Meireles dropped deep, Suarez stayed higher up the pitch, stretching the opposition defence more. Indeed, 3 of his 5 shots came after Meireles’ departure, with Suarez also having 2 blocked shots during the last 35 minutes. A good omen, perhaps, as this seems his most likely position once Liverpool’s squad have a clean bill of health, with Andy Carroll playing just in front.

As the Average Position map below shows, Suarez’s (7) eye for goal sees him furthest forward of any Liverpool player against Wigan, and once he is fully fit -this was his first start in two months- will become even more of a menace to opposition teams.

Speaking after the match, Dalglish was clearly delighted with his big-money acquisition:

It’s not difficult to warm to him is it? He’s very energetic and skilful. He loves to score goals and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. In normal circumstances maybe we would have taken him off because he’s not had a game for a while. It probably pushed him that bit too far. We were just hoping he might get us a goal.

Finally, here’s a nice little look at the entirety of his match involvement against Wigan, a compilation courtesy of You Tube.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I want to get Tevez in but I’m reluctant to sell Bent with his good run of fixtures approaching. I’m considering the following:

    Sell Fabregas for Barton
    Sell DJ Campbell for Tevez

The net cost being close to nothing (I would lose 0.1M).

Is that a better option than selling Fabs for Cahill and Campbell for Zigic, leaving me an extra 2.3M to play with? I would wait until Gwk 29 to get Zigic in if I was going down that route, since he has a blank gameweek coming up.

    Team is linked. Thanks.

If Arsenal is off (assuming it is) then bench those three players.

Try and use just one transfer so you've 2 for week 29... you've a decent team for 28 I think... just play Hangeland and hope for the best.

If Adam gets his 10th yellow use your transfer on him.

Something I'm considering though is subbing out Djorou for 28 and then after Birmingham's double swapping Foster to Szczney and playing the Arsenal keeper for the rest of the season to free up cash and give me Arsenal defensive coverage.

I'd have Myhill as cheap cover... you could consider that and downgrade Hart... would be another transfer to fit in though. And I'm not 100% sold on it for me!

    guita, kraft
    smalling, oddo, boswinga, hubschman, maduro
    nani, robben, mata, walcott, kranjcar
    CR7, Messi, Eto'o

there are some gambles on milan/valencia defenders, but i will see the team sheets before deadline so get chance to change them.

i could afford walcott -> VdV, but went with walcott at the moment because i already had kranjcar

I have Oddo too but rumours that he won't play tonight according to DB earlier, we should know before kick off anyway. Smalling, I had, but as he will only get 1 game with Rio out I have trumped for Vidic, you may have to transfer hom out again in 1 GW if Rio is back, but the chance of Rio having further problems maybe make it a calculated gamble.

Bosingwa is also and inury doubt, and will surely now be challenging with Luiz (I asked her earlier if he was eligible for Champions League?) and Ivanovic for RB, wouldn't go, have gone Ivan to be safe here too.

VDV is supposed to play tonight, and we will know before kick off, like Nani/Robben and Walcott as I have them too, Mata never performs for me, would prefer a cheapie to upgrade defense (Melker has been getting his game for Milan and is 4m and we will know if he plays before kick off).

      Up front, bingo.

Done a wee bit of research into the bonus points scandal. It seems that Sports Guru's, the like of Robbie Savage and Kevan Kegan go towards providing our Bonus points. Each analyst applies for a match to score, whether or not they can apply for their supported or played for team is unknown. From what Im seeing about players who don't score goals,

Actim is the brand name for the official data of the Barclays Premier League, The Football League, Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League. The data is used to produce Actim Stats.

    Who produces Actim Stats?

Actim Stats are produced by PA Sport, a division of the PA Group, on behalf of Football DataCo.

    How are Actim Stats collected?

PA Sport gathers match data for every Barclays Premier League and Coca-Cola Championship match. The data is gathered by two methods - real-time match analysis and the study of video footage. The real-time analysis is conducted by ex-professional footballers who report on action at the grounds, as it happens. Further, more detailed analysis is obtained by studying videos of the matches and collecting more intense data.

    What is the Actim Index?

The Actim Index is the official player rating system of the Barclays Premier League and Coca-Cola Championship. It was introduced for the 2004/05 season and was devised by statisticians at the University of Salford in partnership with PA Sport & Football DataCo. The 2006/07 season saw the Actim Index enhanced by the addition of assists and clean sheets to the other playing factors that are taken into account when calculating the Actim Index.

What is the purpose of the Actim Index?

    # It identifies the players who make key contributions to each match
    # It allows players to be ranked against each other at random or using such criteria as playing position, nationality, age, or geographical location of their team
    # It highlights the key players in a league or team
    # It shows the form of a player & team
    # Individual player/team performances can be scientifically analysed over a season or any period of time within a season
    # It provides fans with the knowledge of who is the best

How accurate is the Actim Index?

The calculations are based on the six key factors that contribute to a player's effectiveness and his ability to help his team win matches. The formulae were devised through analysis of hundreds of matches since the start of the English Premier League in 1992 and have been statistically proven to measure a player's effectiveness in winning matches.

How is the Actim Index calculated?

Complex mathematical formulae were devised to calculate the value of each player's contribution, match by match. In simple terms, the Actim Index comprises six calculations:

    # Calculation 1 - Assesses a player's contribution to a winning team, based on points won by the team when he appeared
    # Calculation 2 - Assesses a player's performance in each game, by allocating points for actions that positively contribute to a winning performance such as shots, tackles, clearances and saves. Did you test the Actim Index system before its introduction in 2004/2005? Who came top?

Yes we did and the Actim Index clearly identified Thierry Henry as the most effective player in the Premier League in 2003/2004. The former Arsenal striker scored 30 league goals that season - eight more than Alan Shearer and 10 more than Ruud van Nistelrooy. Henry also performed well in terms of all-round play and total appearances - factors that recognise the important contributions of players who rarely find the back of the net. Henry picked up Index points for the quality of his crosses and passing as well as his appearance in 37 out of 38 Arsenal league matches. This, together with his remarkable scoring record explained his lead at the top of the Actim Index in 2003/2004.

Is there a subjective element to the Actim Index? Do you award points for entertainment value?

The Actim Index only includes actions that can be measured objectively. Skill, passion and flair are subjective factors so they are not included in the rating system.

Where does Actim Stats and Actim Index appear?

National and regional newspapers, magazines, websites, mobile phones, SMS alerts, TV and Radio both in the UK and abroad.

Isn't the Actim Index biased towards players who play for the top clubs? What about players who play well for less successful teams?

The Actim Index aims to identify successful players who contribute to winning performances. However, rewards for team success are only part of the final rating. Players on losing teams can still score points in other areas. The view is that players deserve recognition for contributing to team success, but should still be able to score points if their team draws or loses.

Is it only players that score goals that do well on the Actim Index?

Goals do improve a player's score but the 2005/06 index for the Barclays Premiership proved that you don't need to be a hot-shot to make an impact. Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand finished 5th in the player index with 624 while netting three goals, and John Terry finished 8th after netting four times during Chelsea's championship winning campaign. Indeed, Steve Finnan of Liverpool finished 12th with a score of 559 scoring no goals from 33 appearances. Jimmy Bullard finished the 2005/06 season in 13th spot (551 points) after a tremendous campaign with un-fancied Wigan. The midfielder scored just four Barclays Premiership goals in his 3,288 minutes on the pitch - compared to the 16 netted by Manchester United star Wayne Rooney (561 points), who ended the season in 11th place while playing just 62 minutes less.

#1 Ronney 11 wins 3 draws 1 loss when appeared.
        #2 Winning Goal
        #3 90 mins
        #4 1 goal
        #5 zero assists
        #6 1 goal conceded

#1 Nani 14 wins, 8 draws, 1 loss when appeared
#2 Goal and Assist to winning goal
        #3 90 mins
        #4 1 goal
        #5 1 assist
        #6 1 goal conceded

I'm guessing the person with the goal to get the points was the deciding factor, and perhaps his contribution to winning performances.

You could be on to something there. They could run it over the internet - you get, I dunno, £100m to spend on, say 15 players, with points for goals, assists, clean sheets etc. How about having a captain who gets you double points?

Maybe some kind of bonus for playing well? No, that would cause far to much controversy.

2 Spurs is madness, I don't think they will score that heavily, VDV is enough if he starts.

Good team, the rest of your squad must be pants though with that defence and strike force? Rotation is more key in UCL as you can actually rotate your players each game night, so it is more crucial in my view to have 15 players that play (or try to pick 15 players that play).

What happened to Jeff Winter's League of Injustice?

The one where he'd have the Premier League table modified with what he considered incorrect decisions being reversed.

I thought it was pretty good as it highlighted which teams were getting costly poor reffing decisions.

Oh, and no Man United weren't relegation fodder surprise surprise.
