Just one Premier League game tonight (and the first of our doubles), but we’d thought we’d open the Dugout Discussion as it coincides with the return of European football. I’m guessing nothing less than a Birmingham City clean sheet will be warmly received on these parts, but hopefully an entertaining game in Italy will ease our pain if that doesn’t come to fruition.

The lineups from St. Andrews are in…

Birmingham XI: Foster, Carr, Johnson, Jiranek, Ridgewell, Larsson, Ferguson, Gardner, Bentley, Martins, Zigic

Newcastle XI: Harper, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Barton, Tiote, Nolan, Gutierrez, Lovenkrands, Best

So Obafemi Martins starts against his former club, and partners Nikola Zigic up front for the home side.

Elsewhere, Mario Balotelli returned for Man City as a substitute as they drew in Greece, and Rafael Van der Vaart makes a return to Spurs’ starting line-upin the San Siro.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

if you do beware taylor is back very soon and has a good chance of taking williamson's spot. if he does i think he's best value for his bp and goal threat. if he doesn't i think enrique is worth the extra 0.6 over simpson for his bp threat and although he hasn't got many assists so far it's only a matter of time as he does put in some really dangerous crosses.

Have an FPL repost to break up the Gattuso hatred (which is fully deserved):

    Current team:

    Begovic (Szszezny)
    Walker Kolarov Rafael Coleman (Carr)
    AYoung Adam Nani(c) (VDV, Fabs)
    Odem Tevez (RVP)

Thinking Odem and Fabs OUT for Cahill and Bent. Would have to do it tonight to afford it.
Not sure as Bent and AYoung seems a lot of Villa, what do you think?

    Cheers.

They could probably make more money abroad given the tax they must pay on their wages. Guessing most epl players are in the 50% band.

The price of English players would put teams off. You could get eastern european, south american players at a fraction of the price

That is true. But you're not really making the point here that English players are wanted much by foreign clubs, are you? I mean I absolutely love English football but you can count the number of English players who have succeeded abroad in 20 seconds.

Not many Spanish, German, Italian or English players play outside their own leagues, because those leagues are strong and pay high wages.

Dutch, French, E European, South American players move for the wages and to play at the highest level.

its not that they are not wanted i dont think, its more that they seem happy to stay where they are,. To move abroad for the likes of gerrard would mean he would have to learn to speak english instead of scouse. Mourinho was hinting to Lamps a couple of years back at Inter but Why go there when you live in London and know where everything is/language etc. To you it might be different as most Swedish players have to leave Sweden to make it big, in England that need is not the same.

Most Italians believe, and with some justification, that they live in the best country in the world. The weather, the food, the architecture etc.

Their footballers are no different and so prefer to stay not far from mamma's cooking. Can't say I blame them.

Yeah, it means that you pick some unlikely outcomes from each game and then combine them all.

Let's say you pick every home team to lead at half time and then draw at full time, and play them as 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 quadruple = 15 combinations.

It's like buying a lottery ticket as you're very unlikely to win but when you do it's likely to be a big sum.

          Ah.

All right, the singles are just singles.

The doubles means that for example the Arsenal game is combined with the prague game (1 double), the roma game(another double) and the rangers game(another double), so in total there are 6 possible combinations of 2 teams winning at half time and then drawing.

There are 4 treble combinations (ars prague roma, ars prague rangers, prague roma rangers) and obviously only 1 quadruple.

I'm a bit tired and this might not be clear, so just google lucky 15 if you want to know more.

4 bets on 3 of them being correct
6 bets on 2 being correct
4 bets on 1 being correct

its doubles trebles and foursomes, haven't done on e for years but its a combination of bets.

Lucky 15 consists of 15 bets involving 4 selections in different events. The bet is made up of 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 fourfold. If one selection wins, bookmakers will often give a consolation to the returns like double or treble the odds odds. If all four selections win, then often bookmakers will give a bonus of 10% or more to total returns. For each-way lucky 15 bets the consolation is normally only paid on the win part of the bet. Because of these bonuses, Lucky 15 bets are often thought of good value multiple bets.

Why has TalkSport got such a bad rep on here. It's just a chat show where they talk about sport and have opinions. Hawkesby and Jacobs are legendary.

Did anyone listen to the West Ham / Arsenal game a few weeks ago.
Truly awful and at one point I had to listen to the tannoy announcement in the background to hear was being subbed because those two f*ckers were prattling on like a couple of old doris' at a bus stop.

Ive always found andy gray an annoying tit, im glad he's gone. Next for the chop has to be shearer, the most uninspiring pundit ever. He sums up the newcastle/arsenal 4-4 game as Arsenal dominated the first half, then newcastle came back in the second! Thanks alan, my 1 year old could see that ffs!

It's the former England captain syndrome that will keep him in his job. Sports broadcasting bosses seem to believe the punters want to hear from them.

It's the same in cricket. Botham is an awful broadcaster: witless and inarticulate. But he's Ian Botham, so he's going nowhere.

Don't get me wrong I love Ian Wright's enthusiasm, but he's no more than a supporter and has little insight.

                    An even harsher comparison!

Botham's so often wrong I can hardly believe it sometimes.

I like the last line on his Cricinfo profile which describes him as a broadcaster of "some wit and sagacity". Talk about damning with faint praise.

Amazing player though. Fourteen Test tons, never out in the 90s and all those wickets and catches. Balls of steel.

Okay, he can manage to speak in complete sentences, I'll give him that.

He's just a bit of a simpleton. FECs in the punditry game for me are Athers > Vaughan > Gower > Nasser and then miles behind is Beefy.

Tobe honest, I know nothing about cricket. Ive watched almost every test match since the early 90's but because ive never played the game I havent got a clue why anything is good or bad. I dont suppose i ever will but i still love it. Just thought vaughan taught me more in that series than the rest combined in 20 years!
