Just one Premier League game tonight (and the first of our doubles), but we’d thought we’d open the Dugout Discussion as it coincides with the return of European football. I’m guessing nothing less than a Birmingham City clean sheet will be warmly received on these parts, but hopefully an entertaining game in Italy will ease our pain if that doesn’t come to fruition.

The lineups from St. Andrews are in…

Birmingham XI: Foster, Carr, Johnson, Jiranek, Ridgewell, Larsson, Ferguson, Gardner, Bentley, Martins, Zigic

Newcastle XI: Harper, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Barton, Tiote, Nolan, Gutierrez, Lovenkrands, Best

So Obafemi Martins starts against his former club, and partners Nikola Zigic up front for the home side.

Elsewhere, Mario Balotelli returned for Man City as a substitute as they drew in Greece, and Rafael Van der Vaart makes a return to Spurs’ starting line-upin the San Siro.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

      Total bollocks.

Ibrahimovic was a real hothead in his younger days and has worked tremendously on calming down and staying out of fights. Absolutely ridiculous that you turn that into a bad thing.

I know what I saw tonight, he's supposed to be one of the worlds best players against a Spurs defence which have leaked goals all season.

Its not that hard to follow. We are talking about Spurs here not Man city

He critized Ibra on the basis of not scoring against a poor spurs defence.

The same one neither Berbatov or Rooney also didnt score against.

              Double standards.

Yes I know. I didnt make that point nor did he. It was quite the opposite really .

If ibra can be dismissed based on one game v spurs then so can anybody else on that judgement who didnt score - ie rooney.

Btw you think he played well at the Weekend?

I thought he was average for most of the game, but worked tirelessly for the team with absolutely no support for 90% of the game. How he played for most of the game IS completely irrelevant though. The mark of a true sporting great is when they can produce a moment of complete inspiration like he did. For a derby, in potentially a league deciding moment, to produce that technique, invention and just shear mind boggling class... I don't have enough superlatives.

Granville sorry if you percieve it this way. Im not trying to score points against you honestly.
Its just alot of the time it gets on my nerves when foreigns players are dismissed on the basis of one performance against an english team especially when the same standards are applied to english players.

Fair enough if you dont rate Ibra but many a great striker has failed to score against spurs.

I've seen Ibra loads of times and that performance tonight wasn't atypical. I appreciate his record, but I hate the idea that some English club will bid for him put him on 200k a week purely on reputation. Same with Robinho who did exactly that for Citeh for 2 seasons.

Ok cheers for the apology. I know you know your football and whether you mean or not, you can come across quite patronising at times.

I think you're being unfair to him Granville.

First you criticise him for staying out of a fight, when getting into fights was the thing he was most criticized for previous years.

If you don't rate him then fine, but I actually think he's a good example of a professional footballer.

And don't worry about him coming to England either, he turned down a bid from Man City this summer reported to be on £500K a week because he knew his style was not suited to the Premier League.

                    Pretty classy stuff to me.

I don't know much about Ibra's off field antics getting into scraps. I just want him to look really disappointed when he misses a chance, like his life depended on scoring. Like Kevin Keegan did when he missed that sitter against Germany in 1982.
I used Gattuso as an example of someone with fire in his belly, not the growling dog he was tonight. I used to love watching his performances, because he was a player who made up for a lack of talent with an insatiable desire to win the ball, maybe like Keano but not quite as good.

Someone said earlier on that there's always one team that gets a2 stonking results in a DGW when they weren't expected to.

Newcastle had no away form going into this gameweek, but if you invested in their defence this week you'd be quids in now. Like Applebonkers.

Of course, I have Harper in goal next week, so they'll go back to letting in 4 again then!

Yeah it was weird. Everyone at my school was a Gooner except me and my best mate. Think I felt sorry for Spurs after they lost the cup final and decided they needed my support... children make silly choices but few cause them a lifetime of pain (with the occasional moment of sheer unadulterated joy).

If you can win at the san siro, you can win anywhere. It took Utd about 8 visits i seem to remember. Still, unfortunately for you and us, Barca are going to stroll the CL imo. There's always tomorrow to look forward to though...

Utd were playing good Milan sides though. They only started playing in the second half and it was poor stuff from them then. I'd be happy to reach the last 16 to be honest.
