Rafael Van der Vaart is set to sit out another spell on the sidelines after aggravating his calf injury in training. The Dutchman had just made his return following a calf muscle strain, playing his part in the fine 1-0 win in the San Siro last week.

Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Van der Vaart will miss tomorrow night’s trip to Blackpool, ruling him out for those Fantasy Managers who gambled on him contributing for Tottenham’s second fixture of the gameweek.

“Rafa did his calf again yesterday in training so he’s struggling…Rafa missed a couple of games, played in Milan, got through 70 minutes and then yesterday morning didn’t feel good.”

Although a precious Fantasy commodity, Van der Vaart’s recent fragility is beginning to cause concern.

Spurs have a string of attractive fixtures, with some particularly obliging opponents due at White Hart Lane in the coming gameweeks. Fantasy Managers need Van der Vaart fit and ready to inflict damage in those, but with Redknapp citing fatigue as a possibly root cause of the Dutchman’s problems, there’s real concern that he will be handed rests – particularly if Spurs see off AC Milan in the second leg of their Champions League tie.

In the short-term we are at least given respite by Tottenham’s blank in gameweek 28. Spurs miss out as a result of Arsenal’s involvement in the Carling Cup final and that will give Van der Vaart time to make his recovery for the next league clash with Wolves. Redknapp seems hopeful that his playmaker will be back in the frame for that clash…

“We have a break, with Wolves away next then AC Milan at home. We’re hoping Rafa will be back for Wolves. He should be ok, it’s not a tear.”

Even if he recovers, the concern is that Redknapp will look to use Van der Vaart sparingly against Wolves with the second-leg in mind. That nagging doubt could well see the Dutchman sold on by a lot of his owners prior to Saturday’s deadline, as Fantasy Managers look to ensure that they have an intact starting XI available.

Van der Vaart was ranked second in our recent poll which canvassed opinion on those players being transferred out ahead of the Gameweek 28 deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    2 free transfers, thinking Fab>Cahill, Vela>berb, giving me 11
    GW28 – Cahill/Young A/Lampard/Nani(Gardner)Rooney/Bent/Berbatov
    GW29 – Simpson>Baines & berb>Zigic -4points
    GW30 – Lamps>fab again

    Question is
1 – is Berb just a "home" fixtures player, if so do i still get in

Is going for Trott over Pietersen due to a lack of funds, or do you just back his form over Pietersen's potential?

I can't bring myself to put Collingwood into my team, let alone captaining him.

Aye, Collingwood's a gamble - everyone will go Broad or KP for skipper.

I'm thinking of braving it without any South Africans for their game with WI... They don't have another fixture for a while afterwards, and WI won't be a push over.

I don't understand it; very much an acquired taste. My brother-in-law, who is Arsenal mad, confessed that England winning the Ashes in Australia was for him a bigger thrill than England winning the World Cup (would be)

Even if he lives to be 400, I doubt there will be an opportunity for him to make a proper comparison.

Depends on what sport you follow.

        For me

United winning the league > England winning the world cup

Really Granville? I kind of think that if England did indeed win the World Cup it would be a greater experience and memory for you than a league title.

You will live to see United take 20+ PL titles, but possibly you won't have England winning the World Cup.

I'm with Granville on this, no doubt.

Part of the attraction, to me at least, of Chelsea winning the league is being to able to laud it over the fans over United, Arsenal etc... It isn't the same when it comes international football.

Yeah that's true of course. I guess they're very different things really.

Going on a world cup run is special though. Not that we (Sweden) won it but when we got the bronze medal in 94 it was a great buzz all round the nation. It's different because you experience with everybody rather than with a bunch of interested fans. It's a feeling that you're part of something that won't ever happen again.

Got a bit emotional there, hah 😉

Kelly Djourou Jose Enrique Coleman Shawcross
        Fabs Nani Bentley Adam Young
        RVP Tevez Odem

Ideally i'd want rid of Bentley but it seems silly considering thier double although he did naff all in the last one...

I can get a decent back four out this week and was thinking of chucking out Odem for Gyan or Sturridge and then going Cahill in for probably Fabs?

    Team at the mo..
    Harper (Foster)
    Huth Coleman Kelly Kolarov (Djourou)
    Adam Cahill Nani VdV (Bentley)
    Odemwingie Berbatov (RvP)

    Just thinking about transfer plans now. Have used 1 transfer to do fabs to cahill already. Have one more free transfer. Will either do A or B for 4 pt hit;
    A) Djourou -> Walker and VdV -> Silva Or
    B) VdV -> A.Young and Odem -> Tevez

B looks alot better but it would mean having 0 subs for the GW which could be risky. A is the safe option. Should I be a risky biscuit?

Agree...VDV was never likely to play in the Blackpool game.

He clearly wasn't 100% for AC Milan and limped off. With week 28 off this is the perfect time for him to get a long rest and heal up for the final push.
