Rafael Van der Vaart is set to sit out another spell on the sidelines after aggravating his calf injury in training. The Dutchman had just made his return following a calf muscle strain, playing his part in the fine 1-0 win in the San Siro last week.

Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Van der Vaart will miss tomorrow night’s trip to Blackpool, ruling him out for those Fantasy Managers who gambled on him contributing for Tottenham’s second fixture of the gameweek.

“Rafa did his calf again yesterday in training so he’s struggling…Rafa missed a couple of games, played in Milan, got through 70 minutes and then yesterday morning didn’t feel good.”

Although a precious Fantasy commodity, Van der Vaart’s recent fragility is beginning to cause concern.

Spurs have a string of attractive fixtures, with some particularly obliging opponents due at White Hart Lane in the coming gameweeks. Fantasy Managers need Van der Vaart fit and ready to inflict damage in those, but with Redknapp citing fatigue as a possibly root cause of the Dutchman’s problems, there’s real concern that he will be handed rests – particularly if Spurs see off AC Milan in the second leg of their Champions League tie.

In the short-term we are at least given respite by Tottenham’s blank in gameweek 28. Spurs miss out as a result of Arsenal’s involvement in the Carling Cup final and that will give Van der Vaart time to make his recovery for the next league clash with Wolves. Redknapp seems hopeful that his playmaker will be back in the frame for that clash…

“We have a break, with Wolves away next then AC Milan at home. We’re hoping Rafa will be back for Wolves. He should be ok, it’s not a tear.”

Even if he recovers, the concern is that Redknapp will look to use Van der Vaart sparingly against Wolves with the second-leg in mind. That nagging doubt could well see the Dutchman sold on by a lot of his owners prior to Saturday’s deadline, as Fantasy Managers look to ensure that they have an intact starting XI available.

Van der Vaart was ranked second in our recent poll which canvassed opinion on those players being transferred out ahead of the Gameweek 28 deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The blank is a good argument but you can't really say that he gets rotated an awful lot when he's played basically 90 minutes in the previous 5 gameweeks and seems to be first choice atm.

VDV had better fixtures and he's one of those players who either plays from the start or doesn't play at all. It was sound logic from most people to play him and leave Nani as first choice on the bench in case VDV didn't make either game.

I watched the game against Che. I think he is finally getting more advanced role. Also I think Everton haven't got penalty whole season. I think there will be surprise points from Arteta. But Baines is concerning me.

Do you think doubling or COleman to Baines? I think Baines is great fantasy prospect at the moment.

unusual for me but i was swayed by ppl on here who said coleman was better to have at his price

i have other issues with my team tho so going to have to stick with coleman unfortunately

with arteta, was there any reason why he played further forward? who was the holding midfielder?

He was playing the same position but he had several runs like Adam for Blackpool. Maybe because they were playing little bit deeper and on fast breaks he got the chance. Maybe I am wrong, but for me first time since that 3:3 draw against Utd there were signs of him getting points.

The moment at the game that annoyed me (beside che loosing) was when Arteta was set to take free kick and Baines was running from far and spoke to Arteta. Suddenly Arteta backed and Baines took the free kick.

I know those kind of statements are not popular, but he is must!!!

I still think Coleman is the better value. He looks to have cemented his place on the wing now. Plus Baines has now ruined his chance of the next penalty. He is more deadly from 20 yards with a wall of people in front.

Mind you, Cech's positioning was just ridiculous. He pretty much said if you are good enough to get the ball up and over/roughly in corner, then you can have a goal as I am never going to reach it. And Baines was more than capable of achieving. Cech somehow managed to arrange a wall and position himself so that if felt easier to score than a penalty. Would have been better removing the wall and standing central.

Surely the term 'is' downs syndrome is incorrect i.e speaking as if they are a different species. Surely if you were truly sensitive to the subject you would say 'has' downs syndrome or is a downs syndrome sufferer. Therefore i dont believe you. 'Sufferer'

It's not a disease you cock it's the result of a chromosonal abnormality.

My sister is 32 years old and as a side-effect was also born with a hole in her heart and has struggled all her life to obtain a sense of normality yet here you are throwing comments around like that.

                    Some perpective here!!!
                    1) the correct term is in fact Down syndrome not Downs syndrome.
2)I have absolutely no doubt that Nedved is telling the truth, few lay people would describe 1 of the common cardiac complications and know it is a chromosomal defect that creates the syndrome unless they had intimate knowledge of it

... but that's the risk you run, innit? The callous, insensitive remark towards some of the least deserving members of society won't win you many popularity contests.

Worse language? Sure. RBJ spells out curses when he pees in the snow, I'd bet ... but cranking on the topic you chose - ouch.

Now, I've done these sorts of things myself ... as I say above: just apologize when you offend in such a manner. Sticking to your guns will always mean going down with the ship.

Oh so now you apologise, pathetic.

You could argue you were unlucky I saw it yes but that still doesn't make it OK.

You were jesting of course but it's just not alright to say things like that in a public arena and you sugesting (still) that I'm not genuine about my sister is bang out of order.

I'm also an ex-pro and used to bang fit birds and drive nice cars bla blah blah so there's another reason to dislike me.

That's if you believe me of course because I am a massive bulshi**er remember.

He also suggested within his post, again, that I'm lying for some strange reason. That's what I meant.

I agree. Worse has been said.

It was in bad taste, but it was clearly an off the cuff comment and not meant to demean people with Downs syndrome, and intention is the key here.

I think 99% of us have probably used others misfortune as the butt of a joke, which would be a lot less funny to those the misfortune applies to, but that's no reason to fly off the handle.

I one told an epeleptic joke to an epeleptic, and he went nuts, but then I shouted at him and told him I obviously wasn't taking the p***, because I had no idea.

Then another epeleptic friend makes the same jokes himself.

Thanks Tosey but I am annoyed having that Odem train in my team. It seems like such a waste of space.

I am deliberating at the moment should I go with 3 top strikers RVp, Tevez and Rooney and wihtout Fabregas or 2 top and one cheap. There are some speculation that Ars - Tot game could be in GW 29 the other were I think GW 36. It depends on that a lot.

i know rvp will probably score more but im about 140 clear of 3rd and its all about the money i win so guna stick with fabs myself

thats why im going without tevez aswell

At this point, I am keeping. Can't do a straight swap of Cahill for VDV. Current plan is Fab and Odem out for Cahill and Bent. VDV has 10 days to recover. It is a strain not a tear. Will give him another chance. I can afford to hold him for now.

Bit harsh, Micky. I do love old Collie but his form has been shocking. Were a few promising signs against Pakistan last week. His bowling is at its most prominent though so he makes a great fantasy option. May even get a full 10 overs.

Yeah - I'm joshing too. Can't help thinking that his bowling will be a no-no now we're into the tournament proper ... there's a bit of a queue to chuck pies!

Strauss and Pietersen probably and depending on who wins the toss will decide on the (C) choice. If England bowl Jimmy Anderson could be a good choice or KP.

      Strauss and KP.

I'll have KP and one of our bowlers - as captain too - for tomorrow, just not sure which one yet.

You have been slightly trigger happy with your transfers. Are you planning on giving up halfway through??

Wanted too but everyone was going to captain Watson so when he ianevattibly did well I would have lost further ground. The heir apparent was a nice enough differential that I could pick a boring captain.
