It has been confirmed that Robin Van Persie will be sidelined for Arsenal’s clash with Stoke City on Wednesday with a hamstring injury. The news comes as a huge blow to Arsenal but also to the thousands of Fantasy Managers who opted to captain Van Persie for this current double gameweek; his returns from the second fixture are now lost.

Having already fetched an impressive 13 Fantasy Premier League points in gameweek 27 against Wolves (or 26 points for those who captained the player), Van Persie owners were hoping for a high-scoring conclusion in an attractive fixture at home to Tony Pulis’ men. Scoring a remarkable 10 goals in his last 7 Premier League outings, on top of 15 bonus points and a couple of assists, the Dutch striker has proven himself as a crucial and consistent asset for FPL teams far and wide.

With Arsenal drawing a blank fixture in gameweek 28, Fantasy Managers will have already been plotting to either sell or, more likely, bench Van Persie this weekend. By the time Gameweek 29 comes around, on March 5, Van Persie should have recovered with Wenger predicting a return for Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with Birmingham. Today’s setback shouldn’t ruin long-term plans, but pessimists out there will be more than aware of Van Persie’s previous injuries problems and praying for no further setbacks. With a Champions League second leg with Barcelona beckoning shortly after the gameweek 29 trip to Sunderland, there is also the risk that Wenger may well rest his star striker should he have further fears over the fragility of his hamstring. That will likely depend on the success of his replacements tomorrow night.

In Van Persie’s absence, Marouane Chamakh, who has been used sparingly since the turn of the year and played just 24 minutes of Premier League football, will likely come in and take over the attacking reins. Although lacking in playing time as of late, the Moroccan demonstrated his abilities earlier in the season by scoring 7 goals and returning 5 assists. Nicklas Bendtner will also stake a claim however – he has had his moments coming from the bench in recent matches and will be eager to take his opportunity having been overshadowed by the form of Van Persie.

Cesc Fabregas looks set to take over spot-kick and set-piece duties with Van Persie sidelined. Those Fantasy Managers who captained the Arsenal skipper going into gameweek 27 will surely be feeling far more secure about their decision in the light of this news.

Arsene Wenger has also confirmed that another of his in-form players, Laurent Koscielny, will be missing on Wednesday night. Sebastien Squillaci is now likely to form a central defensive partnership with Johan Djourou for the game.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I doubt very much Wenger will risk home against Sunderland, just 3 days before the Barca 2nd leg. I don't we'll see RVP in FPL until GW30 away at West Brom.

    So is the general consensus:

Playing the wildcard for GW22 was the correct decision?

Captaining Fabs over RVP (as unlikely RVP will play both fixtures as well as the barca game) was also the right decision?

Hmm definitely throws a spanner in my transfer plans. Not entirely surprised as he has been injury prone the past few seasons. Was originally planning to leave RVP, Fab and VDV on the bench next week, but now might consider getting another striker for RVP.

It's a fascinating situation to be honest. He's made it plainly clear he's going nowhere, and it seems now it's beyond the point of no return. If he's serious about "fighting to the death", I give it a week until we see his mutilated body strung up in the street.

No chance they'd get any proper media coverage at all. The government bombed the runway at Benghazi to stop any flights bringing outside aid. The only TV and radio stations are under direct control in Tripoli, oh and they switched off the internet.
Really desperate situation. Hague has called for a UN Security Council 'meeting', and sent HMS Cumberland to international waters just off the coast to aid in evacuation if necessary.

Just in case anyone points out the obvious, by the beard comment Gaddafi was basically saying that it wasn't for him Lybia would be hardcore Islamist, much the same case that Saddam Hussien had in Iraq. There are elements of truth to it, but it doesn't make their regime any better for the people.

I love the fact that Alsyback has lived in the country you arrogantly claim he would know nothing about, even though ironically your entire knowledge base revolves around the media and probably "some respected journos on twitter".

Also, considering you likened me to Sarah Palin and the republican party, makes you discussing world politics seriously lolworthy. Carry on though, work is a bit slow and i need the chuckles.

Who's Gaddafi on here? RBJ? Jamsiep: Silvio Berlusconi? Applebonkers Juan Manuel Santos?

Where to begin knowing you wont respond anyway. Il give it a try.

" love the fact that Alsyback has lived in the country you arrogantly claim he would know nothing about, "

I really know you love to make things up but - where did i claim he knew as you said "nothing". I merely wanted to know what he knew more than the 1000s of media outlets all reporting the same story. I never said he knew nothing (Ok are you getting where im coming from yet with the Palin comparisions- its the whole facts arent important thingy)

2." considering you likened me to Sarah Palin and the republican party, makes you discussing world politics seriously lolworthy." Well i hope its clearly now since last week despite you ignoring the stats , changing your orginally arguement point, then claiming victory in a debate in which everyone since has ridiculed you for bringing up (yes i saw Locarno and others makes jokes about it).

                    ps
I never claimed to know loads about international politics i merely linked the page - but since you asked yes some of family are involved in International politics and since a young age its been something i have followed and have "debated" since a part of my family works in it 24/7 now.

But again i never claimed to be all knowing that Alsyback claimed but yet you spun it as the truth - you must be getting the republican link now

i really hope you can respond to this but I just know "something will crop up at work".
Or maybe you will say that you never said "love this " to begin with.

Dont think the fact you havent responded to anything and then left the "there there comment" hasnt gone amiss.

Let me guess you got involved without knowing much just cos someone went against me with a strange remark - now others have also pointed out how irrelevant alsby comment was. Your left with egg on the face. So you resort to the classic and very predictable case of trying to save grace by "assuming" the higher ground by offering a condescending and dismissive remark which elicits thoughts of a parent talking to a child whoes only purpose is for self confidence and to attempt to feel superior "there there, have some herbal tea and a good lie down, you’ll feel much better after." in a situation which left you anything but.

Yes the above didnt go a miss on my part im afraid AP and for many others id guess too.

I think it's through lack of choice for the DGW. Everyone has Nani, some have Vidic/Rafael/VDS.
So if you want a 3rd United player for the DGW it's a choice between Rooney/Giggs/Fletcher/Berbatov. Giggs wont play 2 games within 3 days of each other, Berbatov is normally the fall guy for the 4-5-1, Fletcher isn't exactly mopping up points this year, so we're left with Rooney.

Yup I have thought about VDS but for me it's doubling up and with Uniteds fixtures not overly favourable I'm not inclined to spend an extra 2m on a goalie.
I'm seriously thinking about Fletcher and hoping that he contributes points like he did last season.

Can't be 100%. I think he will be benched for the Wigan game and if things are looking dodgy he will come off the bench. It might still be worth getting him over Fletcher for that very reason.

Can't see any way Fabs won't start tomorrow. Role wise, he'll be on Pens at least, more corners, maybe freekicks. Better chance of BPs. All the play will go back through Fabs, rather than sharing it with RVP.

The more I think about it the more I hope Fabs scores big tomorrow. Yeah I'll be irritated I chose to captain rvp over him, but I knew all of my rivals would have captained rvp and as I haven't got a big points lead to make up this was the safe choice. Fabs is still a differential for me and a 10+ score tomorrow would be lovely (as long as walcott does fook all!)

with rvp missing gw29, and likely to miss gw30 due to barca fixture, i think i might do fabs -> cahill & rvp-> rooney this week (2 free transfers) and then bring nasri in for adam in week 30.

    makes sense...right?

Yeah it makes sense but Cahill is an injury doubt. Wait until you find out more on that.

If you have VDV it might be better to get shot of him for Cahill, and keep Fabs IMO.

i dropped vdv before this week

good call on the cahill injury. i'd wait until just before the deadline anyway...

despite some pretty selfish batting form trott and bell we got their in the end. i don't care what anyone says when you've only got 15 overs left, have 8 wickets in hand, need over 7 runs an over and you're just poking singles around not even looking for more that screams of playing for yourself. that could so easily have gone wrong for collingwood and bopara at the end. strauss needs to take a lot of credit for this win as the only positive batsmen at the top of the order

'strauss needs to take a lot of credit '
his batting was good but his captaincy was awful to say the least...he should have played yardy ahead of bresnan or bopara...england get out of jail today...R.T.D. deserves MOTM imo...

of course RTD deserevs MOTM. who else would get it?
i'm just happy strauss reacted to the situation (even if he was partly to blame for putting them in it) by playing positively. it's fine one player in a partnership playing the safe role but when trott and bell were consciously letting the required run rate go up every over with so many capable batsmen to come in and just 15 odd overs left it was bordering on scandalous. if pietersen and strauss get a century each at the strike rate of bell and trott england would have lost that game. pietersen's striek rate was unacceptable too but at the time strauss was in too and they were going along well so it didn't matter

Can't understand why Yardy was dropped.

from what i was reading the choice was between yardy and bopara and bopara was likley to get the nod based on his greater world cup experience and experience playing on the sub-continent in the IPL. but bopara then not bowling made the decision an odd one.
