Arsene Wenger has confirmed that his skipper Cesc Fabregas sustained a hamstring injury in tonightโ€™s 1-0 win over Stoke. The Arsenal boss has stated that Fabregas will be assessed on Thursday, prior to Sundayโ€™s Carling Cup Final with Birmingham.

The fear is that Fabregas has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury, sustained back in November that kept him sidelined for a number of weeks. Wenger had this to say in his post-match commentsโ€ฆ

โ€œIt is of course a concern that he is injured but it can happen unfortunately. He was very upset, I am as well, but it is not his fault and it is not my fault, it is part of sport. It’s strange that it happened early in the game but we have to face it.โ€

Theo Walcott is also a major worry for Wenger. The flying winger was stretchered from the field on 71 minutes tonight. Wenger has confirmed that Walcott has suffered an ankle strain and has already ruled him out of Sundayโ€™s final.

Looking beyond Sunday, Fantasy Managers need to consider the likelihood that Fabregas will play a part in Arsenalโ€™s next league game against Sunderland at the Emirates. That match falls just three days before the second leg of the Champions League tie with Barcelona. It therefore seems very unlikely that Fabregas will be risked against the Black Cats given the apparent fragility of the Arsenalโ€™s skipperโ€™s hamstrings.

With Robin Van Persie also nursing a hamstring problem, thereโ€™s every chance that Arsenal could go into the Sunderland fixture without arguably their two key attacking players. Wenger has confirmed that Van Persieโ€™s fitness will be assessed on Friday ahead of Sundayโ€™s final.

Fantasy Managers currently sitting on Fabregas and/or Van Persie are faced with a blank fixture in the forthcoming gameweek and must now make a decision whether to risk benching and holding the Arsenal pair, with the hope that they will play some part in gameweek 29.

Right now weโ€™re dealing only in pure speculation but, it has to be said, the chances of Fabregas and possibly Van Persie facing Sunderland, look fairly remote.

We await more information from Mr Wenger.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Begovic (Foster)
Shawcross Coleman Jose Enrique Kelly (Johan)
    Nani Young (Bentley, Adam, Fabs)
    Tevez Odem (RVP)

I've got two free transfers but not sure what to do with them ut Adam will be coming out and probably Fabs

yeah, it's simple...if you bring the right players in, then it's worth the hit

in a case when you're short players, you're getting 2 back for each that plays, so it mitigates the hit to a degree

      My defence at the moment:

      R Johnson - Kelly - Shawcross - Coleman - Djourou

      Gonna do Djourou -> Smalling/Kolarov/Walker

and Walcott -> Cahill (hoping he is fit)

with the view to getting rid of kelly after this weekend for the other of kolarov/walker.

however with fabs and walcott, I will definitely want Nasri in after their blank :\

I can't afford Cahill at his price now, 0.1 off Adam > Cahill to be bummer.

I'll have to do Fabs > Cahill if I want him in my team. Other than that if Cahill isn't fit then I can afford Adam > A.Young.

Or if I want both Cahill and A.Young then i'll have to take a 4 point hit.

    Fabregas (0,1 value loss)
    Van Persie (0,3 value loss)
    Adam (0,3 value loss)

    R Johnson (no loss)

    Djourou > Kolarov
    Walcott > Cahill
    Adam > Barton
    8 point hit.

I'll drop Reina and get Szczesny in to free up more cash next week.

cahill injury doubt so like wait, would you not keep djouro for his easy fixtures in future, your relying on man c clean sheet to break even from 4 point hit

Well I want to keep RVP and get Nasri when I can. So I'd rather the last Arsenal spot was Szczesny over Djourou as it means I can drop Reina. Frees a fair bit of cash.

Fabs tweeted that he won't give up until the very last minute on Sunday as it's his dream to lead out arsenal in a final. Can't be too severe!

Personally, I reckon he's a shirker. He just didn't fancy some tasty Stoke challenges last night. Does anyone seriously think he'll trundle off after 14 minutes in the Nou Camp next week if he feels the same thing? NO FECKIN CHANCE! After all, didn't he see out 90 minutes against them last year with a BROKEN LEG!

The sooner football becomes a non contact sport the better as far as that Nancy Boy Fabregas is concerned. In the meantime, I've already sacked him from my team!

I'm very reluctant to get Young. He hasn't been in form at all. So far for the year he has had 2 goals, an assist and three bonus (8 games). I may end up getting him because there is limited choices, but I don't understand all the love...

He's been pushed forward more with Bent, he's on pens, and Villa's fixtures are very good. simples ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks mate. I may get him this week just so I can play 11 and then get Nasri after. I'm getting Cahill for Fabs for sure I think.
