Arsene Wenger has confirmed that his skipper Cesc Fabregas sustained a hamstring injury in tonight’s 1-0 win over Stoke. The Arsenal boss has stated that Fabregas will be assessed on Thursday, prior to Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with Birmingham.

The fear is that Fabregas has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury, sustained back in November that kept him sidelined for a number of weeks. Wenger had this to say in his post-match comments…

“It is of course a concern that he is injured but it can happen unfortunately. He was very upset, I am as well, but it is not his fault and it is not my fault, it is part of sport. It’s strange that it happened early in the game but we have to face it.”

Theo Walcott is also a major worry for Wenger. The flying winger was stretchered from the field on 71 minutes tonight. Wenger has confirmed that Walcott has suffered an ankle strain and has already ruled him out of Sunday’s final.

Looking beyond Sunday, Fantasy Managers need to consider the likelihood that Fabregas will play a part in Arsenal’s next league game against Sunderland at the Emirates. That match falls just three days before the second leg of the Champions League tie with Barcelona. It therefore seems very unlikely that Fabregas will be risked against the Black Cats given the apparent fragility of the Arsenal’s skipper’s hamstrings.

With Robin Van Persie also nursing a hamstring problem, there’s every chance that Arsenal could go into the Sunderland fixture without arguably their two key attacking players. Wenger has confirmed that Van Persie’s fitness will be assessed on Friday ahead of Sunday’s final.

Fantasy Managers currently sitting on Fabregas and/or Van Persie are faced with a blank fixture in the forthcoming gameweek and must now make a decision whether to risk benching and holding the Arsenal pair, with the hope that they will play some part in gameweek 29.

Right now we’re dealing only in pure speculation but, it has to be said, the chances of Fabregas and possibly Van Persie facing Sunderland, look fairly remote.

We await more information from Mr Wenger.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Worth a 4 point hit to field this team?

    Habsi

    Rafael/Kelly/Huth/Coleman

    Nani(C)/A young/Cahill

    Tevez/Rooney/Odem

    Bench: Foster/VDV/Djourou/Bentley

    So much for gwk 27: a trollop of a wildcard.

    FPL Towers are probably rubbing their hands in glee at the success of the second WC and it has revived a fair few fortunes that were heading down the gurgler.

      I already suffer with Adam got a stupid yellow card and Bosingwa inj, now I only 8 player on the field. Do I need 3 transfer and take 8 pts hit or just 1 or 2 transfer with 0 or 4 pts hit?

        Getting the highest score each week (if you had perfect information) would involve taking many hits. Just because you're having a decent season without hits it doesn't mean you couldn't be doing better with them, very arrogant to assume that you're play couldn't be better

    Coleman - Kelly - Simpson - Bardsley - (R Johnson)

    Nani - Dempsey - Cahill - Toure - (Adam)

    Tevez - Berbatov - (RVP)

    A) VDV & Walcott out for Downing & Cahill (provided he's fit)
    B) VDV & Walcott out for Young & Arteta
    C) Walcott & Adam out for Young & Barton

    I don't see much value in Man U DGW beyond Nani.

    Stockdale Foster
    Murphy Kelly Coleman Huth Sagna
    VDV Adam Nani Brunt Nolan
    Rooney Tevez RVP

    Doing 8 points hit:
    Murphy -> Walker
    Adam -> Cahill(if he fit, or Silva/Young)
    Sagna -> Kolarov

    After transfers, team to play:

    No GK to play this week
    walker Kelly Coleman Huth Kolarov
    Cahill Nani Nolan
    Rooney Tevez

    Sub: Brunt VDV RVP

        Taking a hit when you have a "perfectly good" player in Brunt that you can play doesn't make sense. Yes, Brunt has been poor points wise recently, but that does not mean he will be poor next week.

        If you insist on taking a hit, why not get a goalkeeper? Stockdale is essentially worthless and his presence will haunt you if Foster dnps anytime during the remainder of the season.

    Yess!! The run of green arrows continues!!

    Morning guys, how does this look for my GW28 transfers? Squad is uber thin so considering an 8 point hit!

    GW28: Stockdale, Fabs & VDV -> VDS, Cahill & D Silva
    GW29: Wingie & Rafael -> Saha & Carr

    Will mean i can 'potentially' field 11 in GW28 (3 doubles) and have 5 doubles for GW29.

      Alternative for GW28 is to forget about Silva and just do Stockdale & Fabs -> VDS & Cahill for a 4 point hit. I could only field a max of 10 that way but it may still be a better option than the 8 point hit?

        you have 5 out plus Bosingwa may be injured/rotated, also no keeper

        Yeah, I'd probably transfer out 3 and play with no keeper.
        I'd probably replace RVP with Rooney, lose Fab and get Nasri next week, Bosingwa out

          Yeah I have thought about this - Bosingwa is most probably going soon but it might make more sense to ditch someone this week who is definitely not playing rather than someone who might not. He's not injured as he played the full 90 in the CL this week, so the only danger is he gets dropped for Luiz. Rooney looked pretty poor again last night.

          I suppose the Rooney route could be:

          GW28: Fabs, VDV & RVP -> Cahill, Silva & Rooney then
          GW29: Bosingwa & Wingie -> Saha & Carr
          would then have enough in GW30 to do
          GW30: Silva-> VDV

          Better than the first option?

      It sounds good..

      On GW28, I like the idea to get Cahill and Silva, but a bit doubt if VDS will keep any CS on this DGW.

      Saha, if fit, should also be good for GW29.

        Cheers - my thinking behind VDS is that he should at least repay the 4 point hit with his double given I have no GKs that can play this week (Foster & Stockdale). Also VDS rotates perfectly (home/away) with Foster to the end of the season. Swaying towards leaving out Silva as I would want VDV back in for GW30 (WHM) which I couldn't do without a hit (or dropping Cahill or Nani which I don't want to), and would also mean I'm not relying on Silva to get >4 points to warrant the hit. Whatcha reckon is the best play?

      Don't do it. DGW, but one of the games is che. Moreover Rooney was not much effective today. Also better time to get Rooney without hit would be GW30.
      Just do Adam -> Young or Silva.

        Always consider the other considerations as well
        1. It blocks your money
        2. Do you want Rooney as a season-keep. If not, the hit really is not just 4, but bit more to get him out later.
        3. Time to prepare your team for a nice run of fixtures for Eve, Bir, Villa, and Ful

        Not as simple as Rooney > Odem + 4, as the future returns of each of them matters.

      since Rooney plays 2x, you are pretty likely to get your 4 back...I don't see Odem doing too much this week...it's purely a guess as to whether Rooney will get 4 more then Odem, or gets a few more and thus provides you with a discounted transfer

        Points HIT
        you got the whole season (or until your next WC) to make up the 4pts… its not just the following GW that counts… budget also plays in. its not a simple calculation
        If:
        (average points gain per transfer) x (number of weeks until WC or end of season) > 4
        you win.
        The limiting factor is the number of “good” transfers you can make each week, which is why 4 pt hits generally pay off better than 12 pters.
        (I picked this analysis by someone few mths back, and liked it, tks to whoever composed it).

                    Plenty of the dead teams won't field 11 imo so the average may well be low & keep the numbers knocked out in the Millionaire CLub to a minimum. I guess it depends on which player involves the hit.

                I think dead teams had nothing special coverage of doublegamweeks player either...they already have 11-12 players who either way or the other(automatic substitution) will come to play 🙂 so dont think that average would be that low either

Rooney will be played every week and in the short term he also has potential to go nuts against a poor Wigan side. Will probably do Tevez-> RVP in GW30. Swaying towards potato head atm but not clear cut.

          The GW30 plan sounds good. Have a feeling the next few weeks will have a common theme, a 4 point hit each week if swapping strikers is involved.

    For anyone trying to qualify for the last 60 odd spots in the FPL Open, I suggest you prepare early as a hit may be the difference in getting in or missing out.

    My Current Team

    Begovic (Foster)
    Kolarov - Coleman - Huth - Kelly (R.Johnson)
    Nani - A.Young (Fabs, Walcott, Adam)
    Tevez - Odem (RVP)

    Have Nani for Man U's DGW and now feeling less interest to get more Man U.

    Thinking of Cahill and Silva for Adam and Fabs/Walcott to make 11, but I actually want Rooney too and can't make my mind.

    I think it's a must to keep waiting for.. summary of Europa League and injury reports from Gunner & Everton before any decision.

      Your in a Bind because 7 possibly 8 not start
      That being said, you will need at least4 transfers to possibly field 11, most likely you would need 5 transfers. Im not sure that its worth it to be honest to put in a defender as I dont see cleanies coming easy and even so, you are risking to pick up only 2 pts. If I were to take out bosingwa this week, I would go for Baines, with a decent home fixture and a double coming up. I dont think its bad to have him doubled up with coleman as I believe Everton have one of best scheds to close out the year. Fabs has been a waste all season, I would definitely pull him for either A.Young(great sched) or David Silva to at least cover the next couple Gws. Then if want to bring back an arsenal mid, would go for nasri over fabs in the coming weeks. Then to make it all worth it, you need to go for a differential possible captain point grabber. I cant stand berbatov, but this week may be a good one to go for.

      if want to keep rvp, which is understandable, than Ohara for adam is another good choice. Home to blackpool is almost guaranteed 3 bonus points, and is proven to be amongst bonus points win or lose. Very similar to adam in that respect.

      If were my time I would risk it on an ouside captain choice to make up for lost players. Everyone will be captaining Tevez,nani, Roo, or berbs this week. Other than nani, I dont think it will be all that its cracked up to be.

      I would risk leaving Bosingwa in and bring in silva for fabs and bent for keane and captain bent. Have a good feeling this may be his breakout game with a hattrick. Dont think any other options are worth the points. Youll most likely be playing with 8, but dont see any combos that will bring you a 4ppg avg otherwise, and in the event Bosingwa does play, a clean sheet at home is not impossible.

            I like Rooney for the DGW but Silva appears to be the player with the best form and is the one most guaranteed to start out of all of them.

    Will probably let Fabregas and RVP go this week. bit of a wrench to let RVP go,as will likely want him back when fit, but had enough of Cesc. Will get Cahil if we get good news before the deadline, if not who knows, perhaps Nolan, will get Tevez in for RVP. But I'm really struggling with how to order my subs this week.

    Can I just get the green light to go into gw 28 without a keeper. Fielding 10 players.

      I was going to say don't take the hit, until i saw your second keeper was Stockdale. As he's unlikely to play again, a hit to change him out would benefit you beyond just GW28, as you need to get rid sooner or later anyway. VDS and Begovic both rotate well with Foster.

      GK usually dont provide much (for this year), if you have 10 playing and don't want to take hit, you'll probally see green arrow. I have only 8 playing and thinking about 8 pts hit. 🙂

    I actually think the 2nd wildcard has been a success, it's been hot topic on here for a number of GW's
    and has certainly added some variety and altered peoples tactics. I played mine in GW24 and have now scored 368 points in 4 GW's and not in terrible shape for this tricky week coming up so pretty happy with it.

    Would anyone care to comment on whether Adam is worth holding on to for the rest of the season or not? With his 2-match ban and future squad plans..I was just curious if selling him would be a silly move consider how well he has done...

    Lads could do with a bit of guidance here. I'm actually quite well set up for this week, 1 transfer will give me 11 playing. Current team:

    Kingson (Foster)
    Coleman / Huth / Kelly (Djourou / Murphy)
    Adam(x) / Kuyt / Nani(c) / Barton (Fabs)
    Odem / Tevez / DJ

    I had been planning all along to do Murphy > Kolarov, and play Kolarov obviously instead of Adam. But now the DGW has thrown a spanner in the works. Does anyone think it's also worth a 4ph to bring Rooney in for Odem / DJ?

    TO field a full team I would need to transfer out one of:

    Adam - 0.8 profit, back in 2 weeks hard schedule
    VDV - 0.5 profit, god knows when he'll be back
    RVP - 0.6 profit, Mr Glass

    I'm thinking VDV out as return keeps getting delayed.

    Why are people who can already field 10 this week worried about taking a hit.

    I can field 10, but one of those is Odemwingie who I don't think is gonna do jack this week. Plus, you'd want to get rid or bench him from hereon in as Albion's sked is awful.

    Quality trumps quantity in this game and teams of 8 this week are more than capable of outscoring teams with 11.

    Ll the teams taking hits to field 8 aren't going to be sticking mediocre players with awful match-ups in their sides, are they. They'll be going for the likes of Tevez and Rooney, guys likely to score more than Odem.

    In a gameweek when virtually every active player is going to be taking hits to just field an incomplete team I don't see why people in my position don't take a 4 pointer to get the same big guns in.

    Its not exactly like the fantasy gods have been rewarding those that have been careful all season with their teams and avoided hits, is it?
