After a turbulent season which has included the shock sacking of popular manager Chris Hughton and sale of star striker Andy Carroll, Newcastle finally seem to be giving their fans something to smile about. Since their remarkable comeback in the 4-4 draw with Arsenal, the Magpies have kept consecutive clean sheets in an impressive 2-0 away victory at Birmingham and a spirited goalless draw at Ewood Park.

After their heroics on the road, Alan Pardew’s men return to St. James Park for a run of three fixtures on home soil in their next four (BOL, EVE, stk, WOL). These games will surely be targeted as crucial matches which could cement their place in the Premier League next season; they are all certainly winnable.

This key combination of good form and attractive fixtures, in addition to the fact that Newcastle players generally boast low-to-mid valuations, screams potential for Fantasy Managers. And, if you’re looking for the form guy within Alan Pardew’s squad, you need look no further than Joey Barton.

In his last four gameweeks Barton has laid on more goal opportunities, had more shots on goal and enjoyed more touches of the ball than any other player in the Newcastle midfield. Our Members can see the stats behind Barton’s recent form for themselves in the Members’ Area – they make compelling evidence in Barton’s favour.

Another appealing aspect of investment in Barton is his involvement at set-plays. Again, over the last four gameweeks, Barton has contributed the most corners in the league; he is also the principal direct/indirect free-kick and spot-kick taker at the club.

Priced at 5.0 on the FPL game, Barton is a steal and would line-up nicely alongside some of the more lavish midfield offerings, and provide a ready-made replacement for those shedding Blackpool’s Charlie Adam in the light of his suspension. For a low price option, Barton has accumulated a notable return of 101 FPL points this season. This includes 17 bonus points, 4 goals and 6 assists.

Fellow Newcastle midfielders Kevin Nolan and Jonas Gutiérrez are also worth monitoring over Newcastle’s obliging run of opponents – they could easily rival Barton for FPL returns. Nolan has been Newcastle’s top points scoring midfielder, fetching 101 points thus far, having found the back of the net on 10 occasions. Like Barton, Gutiérrez has also been in strong form and his recent supply from out wide has been nothing short of superb. Again, our Members need only check out his Distribution stats, and in particular his “Successful Crosses” over recent gameweeks, to assess his current form.

Bolton could well provide a stubborn opponent for the Magpies this weekend having kept five clean sheets in their last six matches, but even beyond gameweek 28, it’s clear that there is great potential in Alan Pardew’s midfield, with Barton arguably the leading contender.

paddy sayspaddy says

Barton to score 2 or more goals against either Bolton or Everton combined 10/1

Barton to be sent off against either Bolton or Everton 10/1

Barton to score a hat-trick against either Bolton or Everton 80/1

I'm going Berba, after the CL game i think he'll keep his start at Chelski and should be much further forward than the roonatron.

+ I don't want rooney for the run in so it'll be berb in RVP out for me this week and then RVP back next week for odem...

    Appreciate some help guys.

    Team is currently
    Gordon/Stockdale
    Coleman/Rafael/Djourou/Foley/Simpson
    Nani/Adam/Young/Fabs/VDV
    Campbell/Torres/Van P

    Thinking of:
    Adam/Fabs/Campbell/Torres out for Arteta/Silva/Sturridge/Tevez

Not so bothered about the points hit coz I have an easy game this week but a big game against the leader in GW 29

Sometimes this site is incredibly vexing, I was hoping to keep Barton on the downlow for this week.
    Good article though, and
"Barton has laid on more goal opportunities, had more shots on goal and enjoyed more touches of the ball than any other player in the Newcastle midfield"
shows why he is so much of a better choice than Nolan.

    Kelly(?) Samba Huth Coleman

    J Thomas Nani(c)

    Tevez Berbatov

Which two of Rooney, Scholes, Giggs, Mereiles, Suarez and Silva would you pick for this gw.

Note: Only one United player max, one striker max and do not have the budget for Rooney + Silva.

No interest in Cahill/Arteta/Fellani/Young/Barton or other such deadweights (imo).

      Current team for this week.

      Begovic (Foster)
      Evra Kelly Clark Coleman Kolarov
      Nani Fabregas (Adam, Walcott, VDV)
      Tevez Vela, Van Persie

I am aware that Fabs and Van Persie miss a week, so the question now becomes, who to get rid of? Its got to be Adam and Walcott surely? And then Fabs as well to give me the funds that I want/Need...? I have two free transfers so this is perfectly reasonable getting rid of these 3, just a 4 point hit. I would probably bring in A.Young Cahill (If fit, F*** knows who if he isn't) and Barton (Had my eyes on him before this article ^^ 🙁 ).

      What do you think?

Also, went to see "Paul" last night. Good film but nothing compared to Shaun of the dead, see Avatar today for the first time as well. Very good film. You can just see the work they put into it.

        Hey greg.

They look like reasonable transfers. if not cahill have a look at arteta, everyton are due a pen sooner or later. young and barton are both good moves imo.

I fancy 'paul', just not had time to go see it. I also only seen avatar recently and thought it was decent.

Well Young and Barton are both penalty takers as well. I looked at Arteta but got him in instead of Cahill when the 50/50 choice was there earlier in the season and got bit on the backside. So when Moyes inevitabley says Cahill will face a late fitness test in his pre-match press conference, it is up to me whether I take the risk or not.

Fabs isn't as badly injured as first feared according to Wenger on SSN. Saying that though I think I'm shipping him out as I'd only lose 0.1 compared to 0.4 on VDV. So check how much cash you'll lose, I think it was inferred that Walcott is due to be out longer.
Personally I'm 90% sure on Fabs & Adam out and Arteta & Barton in, also considering Silva or Yaya Toure.

I was going to get rid of Fabs and Adam like you say anyways... But if Adam didn't get booked it would have been Walcott instead of him for sure. Are you taking a hit to do that? And Silva isn't floating my boat. Yaya Toure... Meh. I have Tevez and Kolarov, I don't think I need the third.

HI. Problems after injuries and suspension. current team: (capital letters will start this weekend)

      foster BEGOVIC
SIMPSON KELLY (possible injury) COLEMAN RAFAEL djourou
      BARTON NANI fabregas vdv adam
      ODEM TEVEZ vanpersie

before adams suspension I had 10 players and was planning to take a 4 point hit to bring in Rooney and a midfielder (I have 5,4 in the bank). But now that adam is suspended, would you rather keep Odem and swap out two players that do not play to hopefully field 11 men? Who would you transfer out and in, in that case?

      I'll try again...

      2 free transfers:

      Adam -> Meireles
Fabregas -> Downing or A Young?

      Possible 4pt hit:
      Kelly -> Kolarov

      QUESTIONS:
      1. Agree with free transfers? (+ pick one of Downing/Young)
      2. Worth this 4pt hit in case Kelly is out?

        Similar poistion myself.

Was planning to go Adam -> Barton and Fabregas -> Young. This would mean not having Fabregas back until GW30.

The Kolorov one should work out over the next few weeks.

Thanks man. I've actually already got Barton. Do you reckon Meireles is a good shout? Other option is O'Hara, but even as a Wolves fan I think I'd be more confident with Meireles.

We don't know anything about Cahill starting/not starting, it's just going to be a risk bringing him in that could pay off. Even i'm thinking of taking the risk with my mini league lead being pretty good.

Ok how does this look this week for a 4 point hit??

      Begovic
      Huth/Coleman/Kolarov/Walker
      Young/Nani/Arteta/Barton
      Tevez/Odemwingie
      Foster/Ridgewell/RVP/VDV

      OR

      Begovic
      Huth/Coleman/Walker
      Young/Nani/Arteta/Barton
      Tevez/Rooney/Odem

      Foster/Djourou/VDV/Ridgewell

        Ha, basically
Djourou to Kolarov and play him
        in a back 4
or RVP to Roonpig and play 3-4-3

Then see if RVP is likely to play next week??

If he doesn't get injured in the CC Final, RVP will definitely play against Sunderland. We are only 1 point behind Utd now, Wenger will not rest RVP or Cesc.

RVP is a must have for next week. you acn switch rooney back to rvp next week if u like.
else just get kolarov and be happy with his 6 points.
