The Watchlist rankings have had their weekly refresh and earned a new update today following last night’s events. You’ll find the current standings in the bottom of your right sidebar.

Double gameweek’s again have an influence, although many of the assets amongst the Everton and Birmingham squads all appear to come with caveats, suggesting that the allure of the double fixtures is nowhere near as strong this time around. Old favourites hold the top spots then, and there’s a real dilemma amongst the strikers on offer as injuries and rotation cut the options and may well force some risk-taking.

Ben Foster’s two forthcoming double fixtures earns him top ranking amongst the goalkeepers with Arsenal’s Wojciech Scezesny and Chelsea’s Petr Cech, his nearest rivals. Cech’s fixtures, capped by his own double in gameweek 33, enables him to take up his highest ranking for a good while.

Uncertainty in the Chelsea back four also boosts Cech’s appeal, although David Luiz has suddenly emerged as a real Fantasy prospect, compounded by his impressive showing against United last night. Yellow and even red cards may be a concern, but his energy and power looks certain to catch the eye of Bonus judges, while clean sheets could arrive given the opponents lined up for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Champions League ineligibility only bolsters the case for Luiz.

He’s a high climber in the defender rankings then, but hovers just outside the top five with Seamus Coleman and Roger Johnson’s doubles keeping them in the top echelons. Johnson is marked as an unconfirmed injury doubt right now and could be swapped out for Liam Ridgewell if his knee injury looks set to sideline him for the weekend clash with West Brom at St Andrews. Fulham’s Brede Hangeland and Tottenham’s Michael Dawson look handy differentials in the mid-price if you’re in the market for such a thing – again, fixtures play a major part in their attraction for the coming weeks and have them ahead of the likes of Robert Huth and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Samir Nasri and Ashley Young are undoubtedly the hot properties in midfield right now and the fixture list should bring them continued returns over the coming weeks. Nasri’s potential will likely be increased as a result of injuries to both Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie – the Frenchman should assume penalty and free-kick duties as a result. More on him to come.

Fulham’s Clint Dempsey is another high climber and makes the top five with two strong home fixtures on the horizon. The American is the big goal threat from Mark Hughes’ side and, although unlikely to be handed a strikers role, he continues to return goal attempts with regularity. A goal or two in the next 3-4 gameweeks looks very likely.

Wolves’ Jamie O’Hara is of course the budget option of choice. Ineligible against Spurs this weekend, the loanee still hast the fixtures in the coming weeks and indeed, until the end of the season, to flourish further in Fantasy terms. We’re expecting big Bonus returns from him given his level of influence within a fairly unspectacular Wolves lineup.

The rankings amongst the forwards are really hard to call. Carlos Tevez holds top spot despite faltering form; his fixtures look to offer enough assistance to turn this around and, it must be said, there’s a lack of consistent rivals to threaten him. Wayne Rooney is showing form and has decent fixtures and gets closest his City rival, while Daniel Sturridge, Louis Saha (with his double fixture) and Moussa Dembele, all have strong appeal as differentials. The absence of Robin Van Persie and the insecurity amongst the Chelsea frontline really does limit our current options however. The current level of uncertainty and the opportunity for differentials in this area appears to offer hope for those currently chasing a mini-league lead.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Is Lampard essential for the Chelsea run GW32-35? Struggling to work him in. Torres, Luiz and Cech my other Chelsea route - good enough?

      My answer is yes. Lamps and Luiz are way to go. I would swap R.J. or COleman for him in GW 32 if everything is according the plan.

        Was thinking about Foster -> Cech in GW32 to get Chelsea defensive coverage. as Brum fixtures toughen up and Cech will play all games. Could get Luiz also but would then only get Lamps (i.e. no Torres or Anelka). You think Foster -> Cech is a good idea?

          Yeah thanks ILF I called on him before his goals, but the problem is the gap between the games. One month 2 games.

          Hi Jinswick I don't like the call on Cech honestly. To much expensive IMO. Maybe it will come good but I don't like it.

      Why Cech? Chelsea/Birm(you have Foster) both have double in gw 33. Pointless therefore.

        Foster has rubbish fixtures in 32 and 34 and his double is tougher. If i got Cech it would be in 32. Worth it?

      Lampard and the word "essential" happily went together pre-season. Now, it's another matter.
      I was considering the Chelski options yesterday and no-one really waves a flag. A punt on Torres would be based more on hope than anything else.

    Zigic or Saha?

    Saha has potential to go mental but is injury prone whilst Zigic probably wont score more than 1 per game but has 2 DGW very soon.

          he wasnt half bad against us in the carling cup, and Brum do seem to be on the up, AND they have 2 doubles coming up soon, AND good fixtures otherwise, AND a relegation battle (which can sometimes bring out the best in players).

          I think he is a great buy.

          That said, Ill hop aboard the Bendy bus if its clear he will be the starter (we do have Chamakh this year too)

          Hold fire on Foster because I dont think he will keep a clean sheet in both games and the 4pt hit will cancel out some returns. Hart is highly likely to keep a clean sheet although if you need to free up cash then do it.

    Is it important to have a Chelsea forward with their game against Blackpool this weekend? I am thinking of Torres or Drogba. Blackpool are without Adam and are rubbish at the back.

    BUT

    Chelsea havent exactly been fluid upfront (last two goals were Luiz and a penalty), Drogs and Torres have contributed nothing and Anelka is a substitution risk.

    Really tough decision as getting a Chelsea forward is also a 4pt hit for me.

    Quick question for those in the Millionaire Club.

    Thinking of toughening up the penalties for taking hits from GW33 which is a DGW onwards. It seems the penalties are way too easy now that many teams are dead since GW23. There are likely to be at least 200 teams left at this stage & just tightening the rules abit will have a big effect. Plenty were lucky to get through this round due to this.

    Thoughts?

        It won't change for players who don't take hits. At the moment the first hit is only really being penalised 2 pts at the most meaning that these teams are scoring less than teams that get knocked out. For those avoiding hits, it's actually a benefit.

        I've had to use my wildcard to get my team like that.
        Had to transfer
        Walcott - Nasri
        Cahill - A Young
        Berbs - Rooney

          well i think you should look at getting some chelsea cover in and downgrade your defence to do it

          but if u dont want chelsea there seems to be a lot of love for zigic on here who u could swap for odem

                  id go nolan to ohara (u arent playing nolan so just bench ohara instead) also downgrade sagna, maybe djourou? that should give u enough to upgrade young or nasri to lampard

                  thatd be my advice but not everyone wants all that cash tied up in lampard

    Now call me crazy, but I am contemplating the following transfers:

    Cahill -> Lampard
    Rafael -> Baines
    RVP -> Bendtner

    I know the move for Bendtner is odd but last time he was left to do his business without RVP, he performed quite well.

    Whatcha think?

              I know(see post above). Someone will get injured between now and then. Rvp prob won't be fit again by then so that makes Adam/Lamps a strong possibility.

              After hanging on to Drogba for weeks and weeks, I can't see myself going to a chelsea striker again.

        Adam I thought about and will most prob have. That's easy though as rvp prob won't be fit. Malouda was just put in due to cash constraints.Lamps is also easy once rvp is confirmed out.
