The Watchlist rankings have had their weekly refresh and earned a new update today following last night’s events. You’ll find the current standings in the bottom of your right sidebar.

Double gameweek’s again have an influence, although many of the assets amongst the Everton and Birmingham squads all appear to come with caveats, suggesting that the allure of the double fixtures is nowhere near as strong this time around. Old favourites hold the top spots then, and there’s a real dilemma amongst the strikers on offer as injuries and rotation cut the options and may well force some risk-taking.

Ben Foster’s two forthcoming double fixtures earns him top ranking amongst the goalkeepers with Arsenal’s Wojciech Scezesny and Chelsea’s Petr Cech, his nearest rivals. Cech’s fixtures, capped by his own double in gameweek 33, enables him to take up his highest ranking for a good while.

Uncertainty in the Chelsea back four also boosts Cech’s appeal, although David Luiz has suddenly emerged as a real Fantasy prospect, compounded by his impressive showing against United last night. Yellow and even red cards may be a concern, but his energy and power looks certain to catch the eye of Bonus judges, while clean sheets could arrive given the opponents lined up for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Champions League ineligibility only bolsters the case for Luiz.

He’s a high climber in the defender rankings then, but hovers just outside the top five with Seamus Coleman and Roger Johnson’s doubles keeping them in the top echelons. Johnson is marked as an unconfirmed injury doubt right now and could be swapped out for Liam Ridgewell if his knee injury looks set to sideline him for the weekend clash with West Brom at St Andrews. Fulham’s Brede Hangeland and Tottenham’s Michael Dawson look handy differentials in the mid-price if you’re in the market for such a thing – again, fixtures play a major part in their attraction for the coming weeks and have them ahead of the likes of Robert Huth and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Samir Nasri and Ashley Young are undoubtedly the hot properties in midfield right now and the fixture list should bring them continued returns over the coming weeks. Nasri’s potential will likely be increased as a result of injuries to both Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie – the Frenchman should assume penalty and free-kick duties as a result. More on him to come.

Fulham’s Clint Dempsey is another high climber and makes the top five with two strong home fixtures on the horizon. The American is the big goal threat from Mark Hughes’ side and, although unlikely to be handed a strikers role, he continues to return goal attempts with regularity. A goal or two in the next 3-4 gameweeks looks very likely.

Wolves’ Jamie O’Hara is of course the budget option of choice. Ineligible against Spurs this weekend, the loanee still hast the fixtures in the coming weeks and indeed, until the end of the season, to flourish further in Fantasy terms. We’re expecting big Bonus returns from him given his level of influence within a fairly unspectacular Wolves lineup.

The rankings amongst the forwards are really hard to call. Carlos Tevez holds top spot despite faltering form; his fixtures look to offer enough assistance to turn this around and, it must be said, there’s a lack of consistent rivals to threaten him. Wayne Rooney is showing form and has decent fixtures and gets closest his City rival, while Daniel Sturridge, Louis Saha (with his double fixture) and Moussa Dembele, all have strong appeal as differentials. The absence of Robin Van Persie and the insecurity amongst the Chelsea frontline really does limit our current options however. The current level of uncertainty and the opportunity for differentials in this area appears to offer hope for those currently chasing a mini-league lead.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Silva has a nice home fixture with Arteta having a double so the are must keeps IMO. I wouldnt want to remove Young either but it has to be him over the other two if you are intent on having Nasri.

        Rooney/Saha

then either Bent or Kolarov, or should someone else be benched?

    alright lads,

i could be in big trouble this week, ive been enjoying good form this season, getting into the top 1000 but the wheels are starting to come off the train

    Foster, Robinson
    Coleman, Vidic, Kelly, Walker, Huth
    VDV, Young, Nani, Barton, Meireles
    RVP, Tevez, Odem

Already done one transfer so everything now is a hit

    RVP > Rooney/Zigic
    Barton/Meireles > Arteta/Nasri

would these transfers be worth the 8 point hit?

    Cheers guys

With English football now done for the week, I've refreshed my card list and it's all getting a bit congested in suspension land.

New bans for Nelsen, and Vidic in GW 29 and for DJ Campbell and Ryan Taylor for GW29-31, see them join Adam and Makoun (both GW29) on the ban list.

Clark and Brunt have now joined Tiote and Gohouri on the tightrope, 1 more yellow from a ban (10 yellow amnesty kicks in at the end of March).

Warnock, Salgado, Ivanovic, Scholes, Barton, Nolan and Figueroa now the men who sit 2 yellows from trouble.

1: How do I put my link in my name to show my FPL team, had to make a new name and forgot how to do it right.

2: If you had to drop Walcott, Cahill or RVP and assuming I have a good alternative in all three. I would drop two but I already took a hit to get rid of other players.

      2. I'd probably try to get rid of all of them ASAP.

Don't get me wrong at least two are gone by the end of the next gameweek. Would like to keep RVP, but not if he drops...

Chatter is that RVP could be out for six weeks, I'd just get rid to be honest, he's not a quick healer.

Was wondering what people think of:

    A. Jarvis to Lamps, Barton to Nasri, and Rooney to Saha?
    B. Jarvis to Arteta, Barton to Nasri, and Rooney to Torres?

So it's basically Lampard + Saha vs Arteta + Torres. Hmmmm... tricky.

I'd probably go for the second option, because I really don't think Lampard is worth his price. Although Torres isn't exactly representing value for money at the minute!

With the 4-4-2 we are playing at the moment, Lampard has much more defensive responsibility, and other than penalties I can't see him scoring too well.

Surely he has to score against Blackpool?!

I would get him 100% but I want Nasri and Arteta!

        Id go Arteta and Torres

Saha is an injury waiting to happen and as you say Frank is playing in a deeper position.

Arteta and Torres are both showing signs of form, its only a matter of time before one or both get a big score

I'm tempted by Zigic, means I can get in Nasri & Arteta this week too plus will be able to get Chelsea players in no problem in a couple of weeks!

        Still going for Torres yourself?

Lampard is still averaging a good few shots on target per game.

Yeah, I have no real choice after I put Arshavin in last night! If I hadn't then I'd probably be debating VDV/Nasri/Arshavin + Torres vs Lampard + Saha too.

I'd back Torres to score well over the next few games. I'd be astonished if he doesn't score vs Blackpool.

Arshavin? Really? I got him in the week Nasri scored two against Fulham instead of Nasri and I will never ever get him in my team again. Still haunts me that does.

What does price-protected mean? Isn't the algorithm that sets price drop/increase not publicly known?

      RVP - definitely protected.

Nasri - definitely isn't protected, but was until about three of four days ago. I think he'll go up.

Luiz - can't understand why TotalFPL even think that he's protected. He's been in the league for over a month now, and hasn't had any injury/suspension. He would have been protected for 7-10 days immediately after he signed, but that was ages ago. Not sure if he'll go up though.

I think you have to... RVP can't go up, but there's a chance that Luiz or Nasri may. Neither play between now and the weekend though, so it's not so much of a risk.

Yeah, wondering why Luiz is listed as protected at Total FPL as well.

At FISO he's not (currently 76.7% towards a rise).

Want to get him in, but after a massive hit already I guess I'll just wait until next GW.

Had to stop watching just after half time 'cos Sky+ wouldn't let me record the cricket highlights and The Sopranos, as well as watching the footie... Bleurgh.

Bring back Fernando Ricksen, he used to always liven the derbies up. Most of the games in recent years have been fairly tame to be honest, today was an exception. Hopefully it will be just as tasty for the cup final.

Do we really need 20 old firm derbies a season though? It's the reason the Scottish FA are not considering extending the number of teams in SPL, despite many being in favour.

They have already admitted that there is 3 levels of fixture:
      1) Rangers v Celtic
      2) Any other team v Rangers/Celtic
      3) Matches not involving Rangers or Celtic.

      Money talks I guess.
