With Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott ruled out of tomorrow’s home match with Sunderland and Cesc Fabregas looking very unlikely to be risked, Arsene Wenger’s side will be deprived of much of the attacking vigour that has propelled them to just four points of the league summit with a game in hand.

In recent weeks the Gunners have relied heavily on the tenacious trio: with Van Persie’s 10 goals in his last seven Premier League fixtures and Theo Walcott’s 5 assists and 2 goals in his last six games. The loss of Cesc Fabregas in midfield meanwhile, was there for all to see in the Carling Cup defeat to Birmingham; the Gunners lacked a leader on that Wembley pitch.

Three points this weekend are a top priority but Wenger will be keeping a firm eye on the Champions League match with Barcelona next Tuesday. While Van Persie and Walcott are out of the picture, any hopes that Fabregas have of making the Nou Camp clash will surely rely on being rested. In their absence, Samir Nasri will resultantly shoulder the attacking burden for the Gunners’ imminent set of fixtures (SUN, wba, BLA, blp, LIV & tot, bol) and, barring a tricky double on Gameweek 33, the run looks relatively straightforward.

Prior to a hamstring injury that saw him miss much of February, Nasri was in outstanding form, particularly before the turn of the year. The midfielder has returned 108 FPL points this season, including 9 goals and 16 bonus points. His dazzling displays have left question marks over his Arsenal future, with teams such as Barcelona allegedly sniffing around.

Intriguingly, the three games in which Nasri has notched up his best Fantasy Premier League returns this season (West Brom (H) 12 FPL points, Man City (A) 14 FPL points, Fulham (H) 15 FPL points) have come when he has been the prominent force in Arsenal’s attack. Across these three fixtures Van Persie has managed just 28 minutes, Fabregas 84 and Walcott 26. In the trio’s probable absence at Sunderland, the stage is all set for Nasri to once again deliver a big performance and hefty Fantasy return.

Given his added attacking responsibilities, Nasri is also likely to take over some set piece duties. Expect him to fight it out with Arshavin and co for penalties and direct free-kicks, enhancing his potential further.

Another factor worth considering is the Frenchman’s drop in FPL ownership. Although hardly a “differential”, with 12.6% of Fantasy Managers holding Nasri in their teams, the player has been transferred out by hundreds of thousands throughout February. His price has, in turn, dropped slightly from a peak of 8.5 to 8.2.

paddy sayspaddy says

Nasri to score a brace vs Sunderland 13/2

Nasri to score directly from a free-kick vs Sunderland 8/1

Nasri to get booked vs Sunderland 9/2

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    Anything wrong with this plan? Squad is linked:

    GW29: Cahill & Berbatov -> Nasri & Torres (12 point hit in total but can field 11)
    GW30: Tevez -> Rooney
    GW31: No transfer
    GW32: Foster & Baines -> Cech & Luiz

    Guys, I have sat idly by while players have changed prices around me.

    My team is

    Foster
    Coleman RJohnson Huth Kolarov (Kelly)
    Nani Young Silva Brunt (cahill)
    Tevez(c) Odem (RVP)

    1. Kelly has dropped in price today so I can afford to bench and change next week, otherwise I would get Baines in.
    2. Cahill is out for 3 weeks, so I am thinking getting Nasri
    3. RVP is out for 4weeks (2 prem games?) and so I could bench but would be a waste of capital.

    So I could take no hit, 4pt hit or 8 pt

    there are too many options to list and they have all been mentioned before.

    Is anyone in a similar position and if so what advice would you have?

      Im kind of in the same position.
      Brought in Nasri for Walcott this week and Zigic for Odem, got rid of Van Persie last week for Rooney.

      Nasri and Zigic costed me an 4 point hit, but now im considering doing Kelly -> Baines and make it an 8 point hit. Think its worth it, im afraid to not bring in Baines, think he can score big this dgw.

      I'm selling RvP, but don't know who for yet, Saha and Torres are equally tempting...
      I'm buying Baines, but I don't know who for. Vidic is an obvious option, but I want him back next week. Maybe Huth but I want him next week too. Maybe Simpson but it's too much difference in price, that would limit my other moves. Arghhhh.

          that's Zigic in Odem out, could not stand him in my team anymore, the price is almost the same which means there is no need to restructure my team in the long-term

      I have those same 3 players and so share your rickety boat. I'm contemplating a 4 point hit of Zigic in for RVP and Lampard in for Cahill.

      The reasoning goes something like this; RVP is unlikely to figure in Arsenal's next 2 games and I don't know what other injuries / suspensions I may pick up in that time, and Cahill takes a running jump as there are many favourable midfield options out there this week. I've an inkling Chelsea coverage will be mandatory this weekend, and only Nani has had more goal attempts than Lampard in the last 4 gameweeks.

      Similar position here, I've already done Cahill to Nasri and RvP to Louis 'Legs of Steel' Saha, for a 4 point hit.

      Now deciding whether to do Rafael to Baines to make it an 8 point hit, leaning towards doing it.

              Nasri was taking pens in the beginning of the season because Bendtner wasnt playing, Chamakh was. I remember Bendtner used to take pens last year when both Fab and RVP were injured.

    RVP is 'protected' so his price hasn't fallen yet, but once he's not protected, his price is presumably going to plummet by 0.3m or thereabouts. -Right?

    Is there anyway of knowing if he'll still be protected tomorrow? I don't want to ship him out this gameweek to avoid a 4pt hit, but would do it tomorrow night if necessary...

    Cheers

      Zigic. Saha is like Berb, either scores big or not at all, if he plays? Zigic is a perfect fit for Burm. He's a grinder, gets in front of the net and holds his position.

      I have taken a 4 point hit already. Considering another hit of zigic in, wingie out. Still undecided.

    Can't decide Nasri or Young, or both?

    A. Nasri & Baines
    B. Young & Baines
    C. Lampard & R Johnson
    D. Nasri & Young

    Already have Foster and Coleman

    With Baines & Coleman as Everton coverage already, and with only 11 starters (including Berbatov) which would you do?

    a) Berbatov -> Saha (4 points)
    b) Berbatov -> Torres (4 points)
    c) Play Berbatov

      Perhaps C...did them last time and they need some "lift" after Stamford Bridge...then again...Torres scored against Blackpool for the Reds...Saha may be overkill but is a popular choice...sheesh...now i don't even know...I'd say C for a gamble, B for an even bigger gamble and A to be safe...

    I don't think there have been enough posts like this, so I will treat you:

    Foster
    Coleman RJohnson Huth Kolarov (Kelly)
    Nani Young Silva Brunt (cahill)
    Tevez(c) Odem (RVP)

    Best option (for a 4pt hit) ❓

    1. Cahill + RVP -> Lampard + Saha
    2. Cahill + RVP -> Nasri + Saha
    3. Cahill + RVP -> Nasri + Torres
    4. Cahill + Kelly -> Nasri + Baines
    5. Other combination of the above
    6. Just do one transfer and avoid the hit, you idiot

    cheers

      It feels really risky getting Torres. He's not even on pens. Until he scores a goal ans settles it just doesn't feel right.

        I agree, I need a least a goal before I do anything. Only thing is, I think when he scores his first, he'll probably get a second and maybe a third in the same game...

        Thats my worry :/

      I asked the same question, except I don't already have Johnson and Young, so you are in much better shape than I am.

      1. FFL has not shown much form, and he does tie up your funds, but with so many injuries, can Nasri score by himself? I'd be tempted to take a punt on Lampard and either Saha or Zigic. The two forwards basically pay for themselves with the double GW.

    I've made a 4 point hit to field this team:

    Foster
    Hangeland Coleman Walker
    Nani Downing Arteta VDV/Barton
    Tevez (c) Zigic
    Subs:Al-Habsi Berbs Gohouri Perch

    With the whole VDV/Barton scenario, would it be better for me to consider another hit on getting one of them out?

    So a total 8 point hit on?

    a) VDV>Lampard
    b) Barton>Nasri
    c) Leave it

      Wow, I like your team. You should be boldly moving up the ranks. Okay to hold pat, but Nasri for Barton would be a positive move, & give you some depth in case VDV doesn't play, and even if he does, how sharp will he be? Also gives you an option to start two of the three VDV, Nasri, or Berbs. I think I would put Nasri at the head of that list.
