As you will have read in countless reports this morning, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been suspended after testing positive for a ‘specified substance.’

It is believed that the test results were taken from the Manchester derby at Old Trafford last month. The Ivorian international has the chance to request a another sample he gave at the same time is tested. Depending on the outcome, Toure could face a maximum of two years out of the game.

The former City captain, who has cemented himself as the first choice central defensive partner alongside Vinent Kompany, looks set for a lengthy spell out of the first team. In Fantasy Premier League (FPL) terms this thrusts Joleon Lescott into the limelight. The former Fantasy favourite is likely to become a regular starter for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Toure holds 10.5% FPL ownership and his immediate ban looks set to cause many a headache, with the deadline fast approaching. A simple option for Toure-owning Fantasy Managers to consider is a straight swap for forgotten man Lescott. Since his big money move to City in 2009 he has had to settle for a bit part role, with the form of Kompany and Toure keeping him out of the starting XI. Priced 6.3 in the FPL game, Lescott is valued just 0.1 less than Toure.

Whilst at Everton Lescott was practically an FPL institution, in the 2007/2008 year alone he notched up a mammoth 196 points, quite a feat for a defender. Lescott offers a serious aerial threat, often finding the back of the net in his days at Goodison Park. The Lescott of yore was also very capable of catching the attention of the FPL bonus points judges, in the 2006/2007 season he fetched 27.

Of course a lack of match time and a change of scenery may have hampered Lescott’s potential slightly – he is no longer a big fish in a small pond at City. But with many Fantasy Managers finding a Toure-shaped whole in their teams, he may just be the perfect fit.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    BARTON UPDATE
Right I've had a good rummage around and all I can find is that he is rated 50/50. Some whispers about that he refused to play the last game due to contract issues, but Pardew has refuted that saying:
"I saw a couple of whispers last week - not in the national media - that he didn't want to play.
"It's absolutely not true. He's desperate to play tomorrow [against Everton].
"Joey's commitment to play for us. Don't doubt that. He's going to come in early and try and play through that injury.
"I don't think the situation has changed in the last week.

Long and short of it is that I think I will transfer him out for Nasri.

Guys I have missed all Scout Cup competitions but planning on entering this one. Should Iuse my existing team (got too many hits going on this week so may not qualify) or start a new team just for the cup?

I didn't see any mention of it this time, but I seem to remember from previous cups that teams created specially for the cup weren't allowed, they had to have been up and running few at least one GW before the cup was announced.

OK guys, how does this sound:

    this week:
    Adam > Lampard (c)
    RVP > Saha
Odem > Zigic (not needed, but sod it, I'm in the mood to go balls out)
    8pts

    next week:
    Kelly > Dawson
    Da Silva > VDV
    4pts

    when Saha breaks:
    Saha > Bendy / Chamakh

If anyone would like to click on my link, be sure to check out my overall ranking vs my ranking for february. Pretty groovy, in a coincidental kinda way.

Hmmm, mixed feedback then 😉 Thanks guys.

I just really want some everton attacking investment for their crazy run of fixtures. If only Saha wasn't so damn breakable he'd be perfect. May reconsider and just stick with Odem this week until I know which Arsenal striker's the best option.

Think I'm pretty set on Lampard. There've been a few times when I've almost done something and then chickened out and regretted it. I reckon this could be flat-track-Frank's big weekend. He's averaged 5 shots a game over the last 6 weeks, sooner or later he'll start getting the defelctions he needs to score!

i dont want any attacking points. i want the extra cash.
but does getting a brum defender instead, and saving rvp sound like a good idea? my issue is that wenger said rvp would return for blackburn, but i am guessing that would only be a substitute appearance.

I've sold RVP so I don't know. But if Wenger says he'll return, then I expect it will be a start for him.

From what I remember (I was passing through the room at the time), Happy Harry said something similar to..

Raffa won't be ready for Sunday but should be ok for Wednesday - in a way to insinuate he's pretty much definitely out for Sunday's game.

I guess if you're keeping him, you could still start him, with a good sub to come in.

Always sort out your strikeforce/midfield first. That's where the biggest points potential is. I'd always prioritise having 7 good attacking players playing over sorting out my defence.

          my head hurts.

arteta vs young. its killing me!!!!

3 unavailable on bench, vdv uncertain, berbs a slight risk. have to make a move in midfield. am i missing someone, its down to these two right? only 9.7 million to spend, no lamps. I know the topic is annoying. Its annoying me anyway. But please give your choice between the two and why.

if you expect that arteta will suddenly become an fpl god, after such a long barren spell then go for him. else nasri, then young.

i agree all things neutral its young, its just the notion of taking 4 point hit for a player playing away, and Villa has averaged under a goal a game away, vs a DGWer that will at least make up the 4 points, and im still in the fantasy cup, winning the weekly matchup is more important than overall longterm planning right now.

              They're both super-rare T____T

Only 1000 copies of the game ever made, and one sold for $1400 once on eBay. But really, you never see them for sale.
