This morning’s reports are stating that Luis Nani will miss the next three games for Manchester United. This comes after the Portuguese winger suffered a deep gash in his leg from a wild Jamie Carragher “tackle” in the 3-1 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.

If the reports are to be believed, Fantasy Managers should remain calm, given that the three games in question only include one in the Premier League – the gameweek 30 home clash with Bolton on March 19. The other fixtures involved are the FA Cup clash with Arsenal on Saturday and the Champions League second-leg tie with Marseille the following Tuesday.

In addition, should United draw against Arsenal on Saturday, the replay will postpone the visit of Bolton. That would hand United a blank in gameweek 30, giving Nani more time to recover. The suggestion is that Nani will be back in contention for a return for the trip to West Ham on April 2 in gameweek 31. There’s every possibility then that he will not miss any Premier League action should today’s reports be confirmed.

Any prolonged period of absence for Nani would have huge impact on the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. The midfielder is currently owned by over 47.9% of Fantasy Managers and has already fetched 165 FPL points this season. So far however, given today’s reports, it seems unlikely that we will witness big sales of a player who has arguably been the key performer in our Fantasy seasons.

Having said that, Nani is currently topping the FPL rankings for “Transfers Out” amongst the midfielders – over 13,000 have so far got rid leading up to the gameweek 30 deadline on March 19. Presumably these Fantasy Managers have not had to suffer a significant loss of funds as a result of shedding Nani – a player who has risen to 10.1 from his starting value of just 8.0 in the FPL.

We are still awaiting official news from the United camp. But, with Alex Ferguson’s apparent reluctance to cooperate with the media at present, Nani’s own Twitter feed may prove a more significant source. Yesterday he shared this with his ‘followers’:

“thank you for your support after my injure. i hope to be back really soon.”

We await further updates.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

IMO, you need some method of securing the shoe. Maybe if you tie string around it in some way, it will remain on your foot.

I don't think it will be much of a problem tbh, in a home game the centre backs are probably the least important players for Barcelona. Their defending starts with their forwards and I personally doubt there will be much to do for Busquets and Abidal.

They will obviously have to deal with some crosses and set pieces, but in the air I don't think their much weaker than most centre backs.

Fixtures horrific though, they are the only team in the relegation scrap that I can see being cut adrift. If they don't beat Birmingham at home next game I think it's over for them.

I'm going for Bale though, he is much better value at 6.9 than VdV at 8.8 imo. Had a great end to last season and will be fresh for the last 8-9 games this year.

bale could be a shout tho

im also looking at albrighton, with villa only left in the prem and him starting the last two and playing well and scoring he may play the majority of their remaining games and at 4.6m would be a steal

I don't think I will, his form has slowed down where he is not as essential as he was in the first part of the season.

Arteta is coming into form, Lampard is coming into form, Bale is back, Nasri and Fabregas are back, there are plenty of strong options now.

Valencia coming back makes Nani less appealing if he has to switch sides, plus he cries and is an embarrassment to football, got to go.

Depends where you are in your leagues though Tosey, I'm trying to Chase a decent final position so need to start looking for options who ain't owned by everyone, there's only 8 weeks to go, time to go all out and give it a go.

    GW31: Save transfer
    GW32: Young/Tevez/Huth > Lamps/Carroll/Luiz (4 pts)

I'll probably wait a week and get Adam in GW34 instead then for Nasri. Would give me a midfield of Lampard, Bale, Nani, Adam & Barton and 3.8m in the bank.

I think wait a few more weeks for Adam, maybe around GW33 onwards as his fixtures look better.

In the meantime I would downgrade Rooney to a cheaper option as I think Nani wont miss many games and will be enough Utd coverage as Rooney has hardly been profliic for the cash this season. Maybe get Tevez as even though his fixtures are a mixed bag the guy has serious ability to score anytiem against anyone home or away.

This coule maybe free up enough cash to get Duff in for Adam for next few matches as he is on fire right now.

Disagree, i would keep Adam, ditch Baines for a cheaper defender and upgrade Albrighton. 7.5 is a lot of money for a defender who plays for a team leaking goals. It will be frustrating relying on attacking points. He's only popular at the minute because of the DGW.

Good point about Baines, yeah ditch him for Coleman if you want Everton defender as few fixtures after DGW still look good and he is so cheap it doesnt matter if occasionally he is rotated.

As BILB says upgrade Albrighton to Downing for a more rotation free and still well scoring AV midfielder, theyre run is in ridiculous I just wish they had some more consistent players instead of that chump Ashley Young.

My team's a bit of a mess. Would have been a great team a few weeks ago, now shoddy. Oh and I've already used my WC.

    Foster, Al-Habsi
    Kolarov, Huth, Rafael, Coleman, Djourou
Nani, Van der Vaart, Nasri, Downing, Meireles
    Tevez, Berbatov, Van Persie

Where would you begin sorting this out?

Kolarov, Rafael, Coleman are all rotation risks, but I wouldn't be surprised if they all started the next game. Wait for more news on Nani and VDV, but I think that squad looks pretty good, apart from the rotation in defence.

It's not horrible, I just feel like:

        a) there's a few too many rotation risks for my liking
        b) although there's some decent players there, I need to catch up points, and that might require taking a few punts on differentials

        Some players I'm watching:

GK: Szczesny (to rotate with Foster)
        DEF: Cahill, Hangeland, Luiz, Walker
        MID: Lampard, O'Hara
        FOR: Suarez, Rooney, Sturridge

Any of these worth getting in soon?
